Star Citizen Discussion Thread v11

I was hoping for examples of what you would like to see to make things like mining, trading or combat deeper.
I would like to see more tools for the player. For instance being able to send money so you can actually have groups and clans that do some kind of work, you can pay for services and so on. Would love if multicrew had more point like actually simulating a space ship where you have different people on different systems, currently multicrew has no advantage over solo and there really is no need for multicrew.

Basically more freedom and things to do with other people. But I guess trading wont work because of the peer to peer server thing so people can hack money and game has already gone too far in one direction to add on the other things. So for me the game will probably stay shallow. Maybe the 2020Q4 update will add new cool thing, will be excited to see what it might bring.

Those were some of the things, all of this is subjective not claiming any of this to be gosple.
Disclaimer just responding to a guy who asked.

Where did I protect SC?

Oh, sorry, you're here just to bash ED and NMS then and not big up SC. My bad. Then definitely the wrong thread. As i mentioned, there is a whole forum out there where you can bash ED to your heart's content.

The point about the SC thread is... we talk about SC... usually. And Mole's obsession with vehicles with other than cars.

Bash NMS ? No I can just objectively see all of the games issues. I love NMS, got all of my friends to buy. Same for ED got my friends to buy that as well and we enjoyed it for a while. Still enjoy NMS because they are to update their games.

Only thing I see is you guys labeling everyone. Didn't bash neither of them just pointed out that they all had promised thing some are holding those promises some are yet to do it and some have already failed promises.

Fair enough. Then i misunderstood you.

I hope we'll see @EddyRockSteady back now that @Surefoot answered their query:
Mining: currently is doing just one operation, with one equipment, selling at the same rate everywhere (no dynamic economy yet). Dynamic economy and getting more mining mechanics in would make it maybe one of the first game loops that are almost complete. Said almost since inventory, cargo are still not done.

Trading: no dynamic economy, static inventories, no production chain, no proper cargo management, shop timers, broken terminals. Also having a view of prices and more importantly who buys what would be nice to start with. Oh and not getting interdicted 3 times every jump, that's ludicrous, seriously.

Combat: flight model is still primitive (see previous page, "asset dragging" model / ships are turrets..). Point, click, boom. No skill required, no tactics. Missiles are buggered and if they are not it's the counter measures. Most weapons produce weak effects and move too slow (yeah even lasers...) compared to the twitchiness of most of the ships, coupled with no lag compensation and terrible networking code make it quite a chore. There's a lot of work to do before that becomes complete, also having repair stations that repair your ship (currently buggered too..) would be nice.

Want to know anything else ? I'll be back in 3.8 tomorrow to test it a bit more.
I certainly hope that they were interested in the response - it's rare I see a genuine discussion about SC's featureset from a $5k+ invested backer.

…and the counter-point was that some of these “promises” are things you don't quite remember correctly, as demonstrated by the subsequent posts. People's assumption that you were here to bash things probably came from your choice in introducing yourself to the thread: a lot of bashing. You were proven wrong about that too.

So memory seems quite clear I can watch that video 50 more times and I will still understand the same thing from his statements :D
Only thing what happened was that I was proven right. People were calling other people blind fanboys while they are exactly the same thing.

Honestly the ED vs SC pre-sale comparison is a bit tedious. Yep ED did pre-sell features via the LEP sales. Absolutely:

Newsletter 32: 'To Launch, and Beyond with the Lifetime Expansion Pass'

We also plan to allow you to get up out of your seat and walk around your ship. You can see the level of attention and thought that has already been given to the ship interiors from these ship cockpit views in this video:

Of course walking round your ship will be nice, but it is the just springboard for a very significant expansion of gameplay – you will be able to experience the inside of starports and interact with other players and AI characters, and even board other people’s ships in space and take them by force, as shown in this concept piece.

Of course this will be further expanded to include walking around on the surfaces of planets too.

Alpha and Premium Beta customers, and those who have already bought the £35 Lifetime Expansion Pass alongside either Beta or the full game, will have access to all these features and updates for as long as we create them at no further cost.

Elite: Dangerous Development Plan (hosted on Kickstarter page - Dec 2014)

You will be able to walk around the spaceport, you will be able to see gold being loaded into someone else's ship, you will be able to sneak in and hide in amongst the cargo. All of those things are phenomenal game play opportunities where that ship might actually be the ship of another player, so just think where that all ends.

Elite Dangerous Expansion Pass Store Page - [IE the point of sale] (circa July 2014):

We intend to continue expanding the game both with new content and new features. A good example of this is planetary landings. We have an ambitious goal for landings to include new gameplay and a rich variety of worlds to explore. To achieve our goal we want the planets to come to life. We also want to add leaving the ships so you can explore space stations or board enemy vessels or even just to look around your own. We intend to release small, free updates after launch, but major expansions including rich new features will be charged for, unless you have bought the expansion pass

Newsletter 29: Lifetime Expansion Pass - to be withdrawn from sale

For example, our current roadmap is to add (in no particular order):
  • Landing/ driving / prospecting on airless rocky planets, moons & asteroids
  • Walking around interiors and combative boarding of other ships
  • Combat and other interactions with other players and AIs in the internal areas of star ports
  • Accessing richly detailed planetary surfaces
  • Availability of giant ‘executive control’ ships to players
Alpha and Premium Beta customers, and those who have already bought the £35 expansion pass alongside either Beta or the full game, will have access to all these features and updates for as long as we create them at no further cost.

Throw in things like periodic suggestions by FDev that it's still their intent...

And many of these pitches are still undelivered, for sure.

For me though SC is way more deserving of critique, comparatively, because...

  • They pitched an even more absurd / unlikely wish list of features
  • They continued to expand that wish list (via 10ftC dreamcrafting, ship sales [but not delivery] of further game mechanics etc).
  • And they’ve been pre-selling it this entire time. 7 years+ of pre-selling the dream now. Ongoing monetisation of the ever expanding wish list...

That’s what places them way higher up in the naughty step awards.

Good luck throwing $5000 at FDev specifically for future content.

An SC Space Marshal, though, can just say ‘hold my Hairy Roberts’... ;)

Well, that certainly explains a thing or two. You misunderstood it the first time and refuse to accept the illustrations provided to you as to why your interpretation was wrong given the context, and consequently why your comparison doesn't actually make much sense or relate to the topic at hand.

Now, with that clarified, would you like to actually contribute something that is relevant to the thread or would you like to once more bring Yaffie upon us all?

That and CR lying through his teeth when asking for money on kickstarter, claiming that the Crytek demo on show was the currently playable version of the game.
