LOL, it's a bit sexist but I agree with the sentiment. I just popped back into this thread to see the reaction based on the incredible progress in the latest patch. The opinions seem unchanged and pretty irrational. It's human nature. Once they invest so much in a position nothing is likely to change their minds.
The progress has been slow but it does seem to be picking up speed. There's plenty to criticize but it's hard to deny that it's done things on a scale we've never seen before.
I own the game but haven't installed it in years. I don't have time for non-VR games but when this gets a bit more stable I might give it a try.
You don't have to invest anything at all to be skeptical of SC's "progress", especially considering the opportunities to spend thousands of dollars on jpegs and subs and merch in order to be one of the true believers. Anyway, what's incredible about the latest patch? A snowy planet? I'm sure I've never seen a snowy environment in a game before*. Has the SSOCS fixed everything and made all the dreams come true like it was supposed to? Hundreds of thousands of players per server any day now, presumably? Along with 100+ systems, and all the careers and other bobbins on the to-do list.
The problem is, the "progress" tends to always occur in new directions in order to distract people from the failure to deliver the core game play and technology (especially networking) that they've been banging their heads against for years, and because shiny new things attract more whale donations than delivering on OG promises. It's not progress in the sense of converging on a finished product. They're no closer to that than they every have been, because the goal posts move faster than the actual development.
People having been claiming that "it's been picking up speed" for years. A year from now people will be saying the last year's progress was slow, but guess what, it's picking up speed now.
* cue various caveats about how snow is somehow special and unique and more fidelitous in SC compared with all other games, even if it looks worse.
