Man, 3.8 is the buggiest game I've ever played. But mentions of it in chat in-game resulted in the, "it's an alpha, don't complain" argument. And I said, "Well you'd think after 7 years it'd be less buggy..." to which they replied, "It's an alpha, all bugs are acceptable. Either put up with it or leave." The eternal alpha continues. Spent about 7 of my 8 hours playing trying to get the game to work for more than 15 minutes without a game breaking bug occurring. Can't reclaim ships, beds cause black screens, (so dying by walking into an NPC or other player results in having to restart your game, or when you fall through geometry or get stuck somewhere requiring suicide, which is a huge pain in parties) changing weapons cause black screens, EVA causes total character lock 10 times out of 10 when in zero-g space no matter how you exit your ship, trying on armor causes a game freeze, inspecting a weapon causes it to grow in size exponentially to where it blocks your entire view, (annoying one because your weapon won't fire till you inspect it due to another bug) etc. I could make a list of about 20 game breaking bugs from that one gameplay session. xD
So SC is looking good and coming together. :D

You know, I pop in once awhile, my knowledge to SC goes from 2012-2016 after that I know nothing. So it’s now almost 2020 and my question is; any economy yet, can you buy ships in game with money earned in game? Are there pirate NPC, ship to ship battle PVE, FPS PVE? How is the game? Not the graphics or the stores or anything else, is it a game or a dressing window?

So, I bit the bullet and picked up an Aurora starter pack last week. Just the fact, i got lost wandering around in arcorp was AWESOME!!! I haven't even gotten past launching from the station, turning around and landing again just to get accustomed to the procedure. I'm catching hell as I'm not a KB&Mouse player. I'm hoping I can figure out my HOTAS for flying. Hopefully, this will work out for this life long console player.

any economy yet - Not really. Buying and selling are on timers which can be more annoying than anything else.

can you buy ships in game with money earned in game - yes, can rent them as well. wipes making getting enough money to do it makes it challenging/impossible. they aim to reduce wipes, but we will see how that goes.

Are there pirate NPC - sorta, mainly mindless.

ship to ship battle PVE - yes, ai is hit or miss.

FPS PVE - yes, ai is either mindless or rushes you like a zombie hoard

How is the game - buggy, but some of us manage to enjoy it.

It is in worse shape than it has been in in a while right now. After the latest patch.

However, I will note that 3.7 was the most stable patch to date, and when it worked, it was the most fun I had in gaming. However 3.8 is a complete and utter dumpster fire of a bug-ridden mess and please for the love of God wait till about late January when the devs come back from holiday to play or you will want to commit all of the ritualistic suicides known to man at once from playing 3.8

At least 3.8 is stunning visually.

At least compared to Xbox 360 games.

The continued crashing is at least interesting. The old workaround of disabling all but one NIC still appears to have some remedy, but there are reports of peeps disabling their pagefile on 32+Gb rigs for some ungodly reason and claiming that fixes things. How on earth that impacts the parsing of a 55.3 Gb P4K I'm not entirely sure.

I cannot recommend this - but I'm absolutely going to give it a go on an older rig with only 32Gb RAM, if just for the lulz and nothing else.

Ok thanks for an honest review, still need a few millions to get it right I guess 🤔

The introduction of SSOCS in it's basic form is what's causing the socket errors and the server disconnects...it's almost like SSOCS suddenly has a brain fart when trying to load server data and assets as several players are changing regions or gathering in a particular location in game and implodes dumping everyone out. We've now got ship duplication errors on the ship terminals, non reclaimable ships needing a change of station or area (or even geographic server regions from the main menu) to bring them back, disappearing weapons, non firing weapons, ship bed logouts that freeze and refuse any attempt by some players to load back into the game, needing an account reset by Ci¬G to clear the error...hundreds more issues. It's a mess.

Disabling your pagefile would be as useful as sacrificing a goat, bathing in it's blood and spreading it's entrails over your keyboard whilst chanting dark magic...

3.8 should have been left in PTU over the holiday season with the last 3.7.2 patch remaining as the live release.

It's little wonder that proper network engineers won't go near SSOCS ...

It's not that proper network engineers won't go near SSOCS my dear Mole - it's that SSOCS is as far away from a modern network implementation that there's simply no need to consider it as a proposition.

Mostly because it doesn't work.
It's what I meant...it's not a solution to anything, certainly not what ails Star Citizens spaghetti code.

Received about 30 crashes today. (no joke) Just about everything caused a crash. Open mobiglass? Crash, get in ship seat? Crash, equip armor? Crash, equip gun? Crash, equip literally anything? Crash, use weapon, crash, use quantum, crash... I could keep going for a while. At one point the main menu itself crashed seconds after starting... Don't even know how it managed that, lol. Hadn't even started my party yet.

Meanwhile....Developers of the game Hellion(Zero Gravity Games)abandon the project and left the game in the early access state.....

Some of the issues this game was facing sound very familiar here on this topic.......At the beginning game was looking very promising but with time starts to fade away......
Lots of videos and dev communication doesn't mean progress...huh. ;)

Oh Mole, I completely agree with you. CI-G have waffled around for umpteen years and tickled a certain subset of "gamers" to pander to their needs, whilst delivering absolutely zero games. I don't see that changing any time soon.

What I do lulz at though, are those peeps claiming "netcode" or "substantial networking revelations" are bringing SC any closer to production. When questioned, there is the curiously common "It's Alpha! And you don't understand development"

Upon further questioning on network performance there is the even funnier "You haven't seen the source code!"

It joins a stack, and traversal is open to absolutely anyone who cares to look :D
