ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update - January 3306

We will be clarifying that in the Patch Notes coming soon.
I kinda like the old "nothing to announce at this time, no ETA, no promises" - but I guess non-commital statements needed updating for 2020 too ;)

Looking forwards to next week. Also for any PS4 cmdrs, note Goat Sim is free on PSN this month, should fill the time till then.

To be clear, this means that Interstellar Initiatives/Community Goals will be on hold while we focus on the subsequent series of updates and betas that will be coming over the following months. [...] The team are hard at work on the next major milestone coming to Elite Dangerous at the latter end of this year and, as also mentioned in the previous post, we'll be ready to start revealing more about this after the Fleet Carriers update.

I like the 'great!' and 'excellent!' responses, but unless I miss something the only actual announcement is 1) no II/CG for months at least, and 2) no info about the DLC for at least six months.

That isn't 'great' or 'excellent', it is an expected disappointment. It is sugarcoated by repeating stuff announced earlier ("we'll fix bugs!") but that doesnt make it any better.

This sentence puzzles me "coming to Elite Dangerous at the latter end of this year"... How many end of years do you have in England? I'm sorry the English is not my first language, so maybe I'm reading it wrong, but you do not have like earlier and latter ends of the year, do you?

We use the word "end" in more than one way. If you're describing an object that's longer in one direction than the other (like a table) you might refer to its "near end", its "far end", its "right end" or its "left end". You can see that the two uses are similar, but not the same. Things can end in more than one direction! :)

I don't think I've seen it used this way when it comes to a period of time, though.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Great to hear any updates on the game, although to be honest I'd prefer a bit more than an update about future updates. I'm glad FD are busy bug fixing and gearing up for FCs, of course. A bit more information about the Big Thing planned for 2020 would be nice, too.

Greetings Commanders,

Happy New Year!

As we enter 3306, we would like to tell you about the next update coming to Elite Dangerous!

Thanks to all the commanders who joined in the beta back in November, we're happy to announce that the January Update will be launching on the 14 January! As we mentioned back in October, the first half of this year's updates will be focused almost exclusively on Fleet Carriers and fixing as many high priority bugs and issues as possible, ensuring that the game runs as smooth as a freshly-purchased Cobra MkIII. To be clear, this means that Interstellar Initiatives/Community Goals will be on hold while we focus on the subsequent series of updates and betas that will be coming over the following months.

Much like the January Update, these updates will be accompanied by an open beta, allowing commanders to jump in and see the content before it's released, as well as help us identify any major issues or bugs. We'll be providing more details about all of these updates in the near future, so keep an eye on all of our usual channels.

The team are hard at work on the next major milestone coming to Elite Dangerous at the latter end of this year and, as also mentioned in the previous post, we'll be ready to start revealing more about this after the Fleet Carriers update. We know you're keen to hear more, and we're excited to be able to show you what's to come!
Thanks Stephen - it must be a tough job being a CM when you have a "passionate" game community clamoring for new content/news/fixes/anything.
I appreciate the good work and look forward to the 2020 updates :geek:

Only heard about this a few moments ago, having stumbled across Obsidian Ant's video. That's what I get for spending time playing the game instead of gluing myself to the forums like a true fanboi!

How tight must the resources allocated to keeping the game running till the New Era be, if they can't even spare the time and effort to run an occasional Community Goal? IIs I can understand, they have to put some effort in, but CGs are surely all but completely Plug'n'Play by now.

There is generally an end of year every year. So by saying it's the end of this year means it won't be end of next year.

The takeaway for me is that we have the Jan 14 patch (hopefully fixing lots of large bugs as well as smaller ones), a second patch Mar / April doing the same, a third June (maybe) with Fleet carriers and hopefully more content and by then we will have New Era stuff popping up (news perhaps before fleet carriers, then a beta sometime september. However I could simply be reading into things far too much- I've drunk so much coffee I don't know right from wrong at the minute.

My biggest wish is for a balance pass this year- a proper one this time.

They did have those resources - sadly the community - led by Mr Obsidian & Yamiks - decided those resources should be reallocated. Maybe you could ask them to amend their letter?

"However, we know there's more to be done. You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates. " (link)
