[Video] January update, was this what we ASKED?! & Fleet carrier delay...

Damned if they do, damned if they don't! But a lot of the community were screaming for bug fixes and QoL improvements to be prioritized over new content. Still, many of these bugs and performance issues should have been addressed a very long time ago.

And I agree with the general sentiment that the "2020 New Era" will probably be make or break for a lot of the player base. My own interest in playing ED is definitely starting to wane.

I'm honestly very happy with this release. There were a lot of little bugs that were pretty annoying which will get fixed up, and maybe I'm alone in this but I'm EXTREMELY pumped about the crew rescue thing. I used to guard my crew like a precious commodity because I didn't want to lose them, but now I can take them into stupidly dangerous situations (where they will actually be useful), so to me that's easily the biggest part of this update. I've been waiting for weeks for this update to release just for that one feature.

Honestly, I worry from time to time about ED's team and longevity simply due to the fact that they don't seem to charge money for very many things and space sandbox games aren't exactly drawing in hundreds of thousands of players, so my takeaway from Fleet carriers being pushed back is "Elite Dangerous' future is planned out for several years to come". I'm cool with this!

I know this update isn't exactly fancy, but I think it's a good one.

Long ago I learned not to have "expectations" regarding updates from FD. It's starting to feel a bit like freecell - It's pretty much the same every time you play it.

That doesn't bother me very much as I enjoy playing both.

I'm all for QOL and bug squashing, but yes, 3 years is a bit long for something that could actually be a game changer.

You can, although it will cost you..... I have about 4 billion in bounties, and about 2 billion in assets and credits :D

What annoys me is I love FDs lore and making Powerplay memes and content- it will be hard to give that up but FD seem hell-bent on wrecking these things. For example, I fire up the launcher and get out of date stories and giant gaping holes of black. What happened? Surely they can see this is bad?
Just because you're not having fun doesn't mean you shouldn't be making fun. I've come to enjoy a good number of your posts I do hope you'll continue stopping by.

Lol exactly. Lot of people are mentioning that the supporters of the open letter wanted the bugs fixed before any new content. Except, there is nothing in the OL that states that.
It was FDEVs decision to delay new content. And they gladly used the open letter as a scapegoat.
Very likely they were already behind schedule (thus no livestream demo or more updated info about DC), and then the September disaster hit, requiring them to spend one and a half month fixing a broken game, which delayed FCs even further.
It was the open letter and it was noted all over the forum that it was okay to delay the FC while taking a victory lap.

I don't get it, this was known about 3 months back, and was the direct outcome of the 'open letter' you posted about.
Where you been?
He only visits here to post links to his 'influenza' channel, not to contribute or read what is going on...
... offer him some money and you can have a toy squeaked in your honour...

'The Community' of mutual backslappers demanded fixes... this is what we get :)

Fake news, thats not actually how it happened. Fdev just used that as an excuse because they probably were nowhere near ready to release it. If you go read that open letter, no where does it request an extended drought so that bug fixes can implement new and worse bugs.

This one on post #99 seems quite clear about what was wanted... plus, NMS seem to have updates with bug fixes and content....black magic?

FDEV were actually behind it all along, that's why you never see Sandro and Yamiks in the same room.

The reduction from FDev of new content, Galnet news and CGs, happened before the Community Requests were posted. There were many complaints throughout 2019 of how threadbare the two main updates (April & September) were of new content.

Meanwhile, the Community Requests didn't campaign for "no more new content until bugs get fixed".

Feel free to read it again if you want to check what was being asked for:
