Hunting Guardian Stuff

Ok. I have the cash from mining to actually think about going for a Guardian FSD Booster to make sight seeing easier.
There are a lot of things already found that I want to go see in person.
Found an excellent post and some tutorials about where to go and what to get for the booster.
What is missing is how often am I going to have to fight the Sentinels?
Can they be fought from the ship?
Looks like almost all the stuff I need is about 1000LY away from where I am and scattered over a rather large area so the total trip is likely to run 3000ly.
For that length of trip would an AFMU be a really good idea?
If so, what class?

The sentinels pop up with some regularity, but personally I didn't find them an issue and they were easy to destroy. They cannot be fought from the ship, but if you take a small (or probably medium) ship and land next to the site and equip a point defense on top of the ship, it will help with the missiles that the sentinels shoot at you. I went in a DBX with a single PD on it.

Doubt you'll need an AFMU, but if you're unsure about anything, I'd suggest two SRV's in case you lose one.

This is the guide I followed, and I unlocked the FSD booster in one session.

I had some of the materilas I needed already, but not many, and got the rest easily at the site where I unlocked the booster (module) blueprint.

Hummnn,, RE: Point Defense
As I remember it,, Small Multi Cannon Turrets in FIRE AT WILL used to act as PD. Do they still do that??

Ok. PD's go on Utility Mounts and the DBX has 4 UM's all on top.
Looks like put one on each wing,
Park facing away from the installation,
Run the SRV out in a straight line to spawn the Sentinels,
Reverse the SRV and hide under the DBX until the PD's had taken out the Sentinels.

Nope
PD will not take out the sentinels.
They will only take out the missiles fired by the sentinels

And sentinels spawn is always fixed - they spawn when you reach various zones or after you perform certain actions.
Once you do the run 1-2 times, it will become routine - spawn a sentinel, activate SRV brakes, 2 pips to shields, 4 pips to weap, fire at will untill the sentinel is dead
If you manage to spawn 2 sentinels at the same time, 4 pips to shields and try to get to cover, then pick the sentinels one by one.

Edit: and one more thing: the materials also have fixed drop off points (except for patterns that are random). So learn where those Guardian Technology Components drop an farm them like there is no tomorrow - they are used in different modules/weaps and you can never have too much of them.

Ah, no. The point defence is for the missiles launched by the Sentinels. You've still got to take the Sentinels out with the SRV.

Best advice I was given: take your time, ignore timers until you are comfortable shooting Sentinels, with the site layout etc.

Timers??
In the early days on my planetary wanderings I got very good at taking out skimmers and collecting bounty's when the Nav Panel told you immediately if they were wanted.

So these are kind'a Daves Hope deal but you have to fight your way around??

Not exactly. :D
When you start activating stuff, there's a timer starts. Gives you a sense of 'false jeopardy '. Ignore it, don't worry about it.
Priority, get used to the Sentinels, get used to the site layout.
You can always relog to reset everything.

Timer=rushing=panic = mistakes and frustration.

Take your time.
I enjoy the Guardian sites, very atmospheric.

Good jump range, and good with the PD's... Yes, stick a cargo rack in the empty class two compartment. You'll use it when you pick up the ancient relic(s), which you will then jettison or abandon (doesn't matter which) over the receptacle which will then get you the blueprint.

Good luck!

Humnn,
How many relics am I going find and have to hold on to at the same time? The SRV holds 2.

Another thing to think about is that I will be in a wing of two ships and I plan to have both ships on the ground and SRVs deployed at the same time.

You need one relic per blueprint, and there are plenty available at the site, so yes, you can just hold them in the SRV. But since you had a spare slot, no harm in putting a cargo rack in even if you don't use it, unless you particularly want to use the slot for something else.

For Guardian Modules and weapons you dont really need ship storage.
Every run you pick an ancient relic with the srv then drop it at the end of the run to get the blueprint

IF you want to unlock the Guardian SLF, then you need at ship storage.
You pick the Ancient key from space installations and you have to transport it to Planetary Guardian Structures to unlock the blue prints. So for all 3 SLF blue prints you need 3t cargo storage.

Humnnnn. If I am going to do this, I might as well get it all done.. What space installations for the Key?

Ok.. Glad someone mentioned the Guardian Beacon . Now I know why I couldn't get the one I found a long time ago to do anything. I was only carrying Multicannons and they, and evidently the stuff at Ruins and Structures need heat..
So, I need a beam weapon on my DBX's.

One warning tho.
The amount of Epsilon Patterns needed to unlock all three SLF plus the modules that need them, can be daunting.
And there is basically no gameplay to get them - they are random results of obelisks scans. So it may involve a lot of re-logging

Well, I just turned 70 in DEC and I plan to live to at least 100. So, unless the DEV's do something really stupid I have plenty of time.

Still trying to get clear about when and where I need lasers/thermal weps for this stuff.
