You can heal yourself at the medical beds on the Cutty red since the medical function was an added feature with it's release, not only for the Cutty red but all ships that have a medbay (Carrack and 890J at present)... I tested it when the Cutty red was in PTU...hence why I CCU'd a Hull B for one... as well as having a mobile spawn point if you die, like in a mine or suchlike... which can come in handy, I actually like it...I was a big fan of the Cutty black anyway so the Red was a decent addition...only costing $5 to upgrade from the Hull B. It still has 16 SCU of cargo space in a separate sealed cargo area at the rear of the med bay so it can be used as a decent box delivery/minor cargo runabout as well as a medical ship.
Ah yep fair play, I forgot about the reheal. (So hilariously displayed by this guy who got injured every time he entered his Red, and so had to heal immediately to save himself

)

It's still nothing like the
functionality they've dreamscaped though for the medical beds. No entrancing broken leg gameplay. No amazing 'scan for syphilis' processes, to remove the wibbly effect from your eyes, and return control to your arms and bladder
I still think it's worth emphasising that, yet again, that the meat of the game mechanics associated with these specialist ships is nowhere to be seen though, even if they've launched with the
start of a mechanic in place for a change
You could always use the Carrack as a trader in the meantime, which is my plan...it has comfier seats than the Cat, an Ursa rover and the Pisces snub plus 456 SCU of cargo space, nothing beats that currently in game except the mighty Cat's 576 SCU so far.
Still better off going for the Cat if you're trader/hauler inclined in any case, it's far cheaper than a Carrack...
The core utility that it 'can be used as a half decent hauler' doesn't really make up for the lack of its USP though. Not in the big picture of: This happens every single time. They get the ship shell out before they've done the hardest bit. The gameplay mechanics.
I know the Carrack is seen as the ultimate 'everyman' ship now (and having various tools for 'making your own fun amongst the lack of gaming loops' has its own appeal

). But it was still originally marketed as an explorer. It's pretty hard not to see it as just another lure to the endless ship collectors, with none of the difficult stuff done. $500 of slightly-different Han Solo appeal.
But maybe someday it'll be merrily using:
"reinforced fuel tanks for long-duration flight, an advanced jump drive, and a dedicated computer core for jump charting operations.". And I'm sure the "mapping-oriented sensor suite" will be functional from day one
Ship to ship as an entire mechanic doesn't exist...so it's not just an issue for the Cutty red...Most of the medium to large ships have the facility, it's just yet another thing Ci¬G have dropped again from the entirely functionless 'roadmap'.
Yeah ship-to-ship docking affects a ton of ships for sure, and will continue to until Chris's magic code alters reality. But just because it means gameplay is missing from current ship
s (and many expensive proposed ones, like the Hull series, and niche ones like the various bespoke boarding ships etc), doesn't mean it's not, like, an issue for each of those ships
