Animals in DLC Packs

Im pretty sure we’ll get more dlc content in time. Can’t guarantee when as models, rigs, animations, ect take time to develop.

Yeah this next dlc could feature more I guess but I think 4 is probably my expectation and anything more is a bonus. There could be game options also I suppose and maybe some other things then animals too. Not saying for sure but packs may or may not consist of animals every time but it will be a surprise when it happens at least.

I know, I love this game and I liked the last pack but the amount of animals was underwhelming :(

There is a difference between an expansion pack and a DLC.

In the old Zoo Tycoon days (which is an apt comparison because it is usually what people are referring to when they mention "more animals per DLC!!!") games did not have a huge online presence, and variety was extremely limited. Expansion packs worked because people were not so easily distracted by the next shiny thing that popped up on their internet-driven radar as they are now. You could stand to wait a couple of years to release new content, because the market wasn't as expansive.

Nowadays games need DLC to remain relevant. DLC is more frequent, but at the cost of having less content. If you want more content per DLC, be prepared to wait far longer for new content.

There are various reasons for smaller packs:

  • DRM - every DLC/update needs a new crack
  • Not everybody has that much money to spend, so they can focus on the packs they actually want. Why pay € 30,- when half of the animals are nice but not interesting enough for you, while a smaller specific pack is worth your money.
  • Quality over Quantity
  • Keep the game more relevant (just like NZFanatic pointed out)

Pretty sure I'll buy most DLC packs but if i'm really not interested in 1 theme and 3 out of 4 animals don't fit my personal preferences - i can skip that one.

Don't expect expansion packs (major DLC) but with the Back to Jurassic Park DLC for JWE, maybe bigger packs are an option.
(Compared to earlier JWE DLC - that DLC is a big expansion for the current JWE)

honestly I’d be okay with waiting! I grew up on the first Zoo Tycoon and loved it. I’d wait a year for 30-60 animals instead of 4 months for 5. I’m not saying the devs are doing anything bad I love their work! I just am expressing and hoping tobe heard :)

I’m merely expressing my opinion. I’m quite content with all the great work they’ve done and is so much better than the last one. I just miss all the animals, i grew up on ZooTycoon 1 and it was a blast

I'm not entirely sure of the purpose of this thread, in that case. I mean, it's sort of a given that we will get more animals in the future. Doubtless they are cooking something up even now. I assumed by your second comment that you were unhappy with the size of the Arctic Pack and how limited the content was, so I thought it was worth pointing out that it's unlikely future DLC's will be much bigger.

Unfortunately, that's just the way games work nowadays. The DLC business model ensures a steady flow of capital and keeps the product's social media presence high; the more people talk about the game, the more people will be willing to spend money on the game, so to ensure people keep talking about it developers need to push out new content as often as they possibly can. The days of big expansion packs are gone (The Sims not withstanding; even EA chucks out a bunch of DLC's every year outside of their relatively frequent "expansions").

I agree with NZfanatic, the second comment did create a similar assumption for me. Oh well.. no problem, thanks for explaining.

I think you're in the minority on this one. Most people will uninstall the game if (barely) nothing shows up..
I'd love to see a big expansion but I'd prefer spreading that content in multiple DLC to keep me interested.

I’d love to see a bigger pack too! With a couple of themes and at least 10 habitat animals. I’d be fine spending whatever on it. At the same time, I’m impressed with the quality of the models of the animals they add, and ultimately it’s quality over quantity... but I’d love to have both! For now, I hope that they’re working on adding coat variations and new, more frequent behaviour animations, as I’d rather have 50 really amazing animals than 100 bland ones.

Couldn't agree more. Although, to be honest, I need somethin new and fresh sooner or later by now. But maybe it's not the games fault and I just have a bad month and need something to look forward to. I don't know. I could really use some hours on the hype train again.

Yeah all the people predicting a March DLC release seem to have been mistaken. Surely we would have heard something by now if that was going to be the case. That said they might still surprise us yet.

I agree that some new features are necessary - adding new animals and set pieces is nice and all, but we need more to do in the game as well instead of just doing the same thing with new animals.

Might be kinda hard for them to create or release new DLC in this coronavirus chaos, their offices might get shut down.

Well, it's UK-based.. They are not trying that hard shutting down big events/offices/schools :D

We have no idea if they actually planned out DLC for this month (or April), maybe this chaos doesn't affect this at all..

A lot of companies have back-up plans for their employees when they have to stay at home..
