"Is the game dead?" returning players keep posting here and on reddit, due to blank Galnet

There are 20K systems in the bubble; with 20K active players spread evenly you'd only have a shot of seeing 1 every so often and I doubt there's 20K active players (but I don't know). There are 400B systems in the galaxy and many people aren't even in the bubble. Add in P2P instancing and the odds of you seeing someone drop even lower, regardless of you being 120LY from Sol.

FWIW, I live in Aus (internet deadlands) and I pretty much see someone every time I log in, but then I'm based in Deciat.

when watching a stream I did not see such a question in the chat, please write the exact time of the stream when it was asked.
You can tell it’s a question from the chat because he says ‘so... <name> says’ and then what’s been said.

For info the livestreams go out on multiple channels simultaneously, YouTube, Twitch and Mixer.

One of these days I'm going to join the Frontier stream and ask some tough questions like

What even is fame shift drives?

Do you have any space poupon?

Does CR secretly moonlight in Elite as a ganker?

1) Michael Brooks and Paige Harvey have left Elite.
2) Patches instead of promised content.
3) Content delayed until the end of this year.
4) Galnet dead, no replacement announced.
5) Game studders, game launcher problems, network connect issues continue.
6) Game no longer works through VPN connections.

Not quite dead, but certainly dying.....
...and no bar raising content in probably 4+ years. Meanwhile management/designers soldier on with major developments like Multicrew, creating a huge rod for the game's back, and which in truth is almost pointless as there's been no investment in mechanic depth in years for it to leverage. We need only consider why the Thargoid Invasion is so devoid of meaning/depth to underline this lack of growth and development in core mechanics.

So I hope the end of this year isn't just akin to so much of the same questionable, shallow, bolt on gameplay that so much of the past 4+ years has been... Please let's finally see some well designed, layered, bar raising mechanics and gameplay.

Not sure if dead. If it was dead then in my eyes the servers would shut down.

Great game idea. Just not a lot of development that brings in New players.

You should know that your wish is certainly not possible as there are so many versions of what would be "bar raising mechanics and gameplay" that a development time of 20 years would be too short to incorporate all of the, often conflicting, wishes of the community :)

I suppose the game is "Dead" for those who consider they have consumed all of the content interesting to them, or who realised they purchased the wrong game or just stopped playing the game... (but not the forum)
Of course it is dead for the despisers too...

Why, if one considers the game to be no longer interesting or no longer plays is there such a great need to declare it, constantly, on the forum? Are the days of just stopping playing something gone and moving on to something else no more? Sad really...

It's not just this game, but many games I have played. Forums are often the same - people who have stopped playing are so bitter and determined to share their dismay, it's not uncommon for them to look down on those who still play a game that they themselves have decided they're too "good" for.

Well no galnet no universe, no universe no game.
For a shooter Galxians is just fine.
I pitty fdev probabbly not making enough money from elite.
But in todays market adding less, promising and not delivering and spend months without any content update.
They are lucky with the community they have any other MMO would be dead by now.
And just one thing honestly do you really thing Carriers will bring anything really new to the game other than some hours of flying around in a new skin ?

Isn't the whole game just basically flying around for hours in one ship or another? Carriers may add nothing for you...
As for making money from elite - try reading their published information and make an informed guess?
Being brutally honest, marketed as a MMO but with enough single-player focussed content to be more accurately called an always online game...
