Your least enjoyable Elite activity?

You know how it is - always tempting to salt a positive thread, so I thought why not gather some salt separately in a proper container.

So my least enjoyable ED activity - no it's not engineers, I can just ignore them. Not really, but I do and that pits me against bulletsponged enemies in combat. Combat is my least enjoyable activity - I blame the powercreep for that. I used to do a lot of it before they notched up the NPC HP so much, but it simply didn't pay nor yield a fun experience anymore. Ships flying reverse as fast as they can fly / accelerate ahead adds in to the mix. My tolerance for nonsense is actually pretty big, but I just couldn't stomach the combat anymore.

So what's yours? Operating the FSS? Outfitting? Hitting "J" all the time? Alt-tabbing?

I'm with you on combat. I can stomach it in a wing with some friends, but that's about it. Also, what does "J" do on PC? (console peasant here).

I don't like doing missions. I find the whole mission part of the game to detract in all sorts of ways from the feel of the gameworld. There's just no way to cover up that it's just rinse and repeat / randomly generated so I find that it reduces the sense of depth rather than enhances it. I only do them when I absolutely must.
Combat I also don't have much love for and don't find myself attracted to it much. Except for Thargoids - I like that for some reason.

I plan to outfit a Clipper and go pew some Scouts this weekend (I need to grind that combat rank for Lori), hopefully it is indeed more enjoyable :)

Another vote for combat here.

My main, which started in Beta, has been Exploration/Trade Elite for a long while, but Combat is still only dangerous. I keep chipping away occasionally using a local CNB, but it's going to take a while.

Driving the SRV around a guardian site because I wanted the fsd booster. Spent half the time with the flipping thing upside down. Or stuck on some random piece of terrain. And the experience of 'combat' with the sentinels shows how there's been zero development of the SRV since it was introduced. I should be hosing the sentinels down with quad miniguns by now, or lighting them up with a barrage of SAMs, based on being able to make hardpoint and module choices for the SRV, exactly as for my ship. But, no, still twin pea-shooters. Absolute lack of any visceral 'feel' to the whole process.

And after finally grinding it out I flew the 39 jumps* back to the bubble only to find I hadn't picked up enough guardian-flavoured space-maguffins anyway, and if I want the fsd booster I have to go back and do it again.

*I just like the T10, ok? I know it's the wrong tool for the job, had I not hated the driving-about bit so much the number of jumps wouldn't have bothered me :)

Running around 50+ systems just so I can update EDDB stats and make a decision about what is most important to do today.
Normally means I have no time left to actualy do anything else.

(There are other activities I dont enjoy, I just dont do them, nor demand that they should be fun)

Hard question, probably A-B trading following some trade routes I got from 3rd party tools. Feels a bit like playing an idle clicker.
or long SC-distance passenger missions.

Guess I'm not fit to be a Hutton Trucker, although I don't mind going to Hutton Orbital, if I have a real reason to go there, apart from getting rich(er)

Jump'n Honk is probably also there on the list of thing I don't really care about, I love to explore systems, check out planets, but just jumping and pressing a button to earn money is not my thing.

Logging out!

LOL - sorry, couldn't resist giving the ultimate White Knight repsonse. But seriously, err ...

Opening Galnet and seeing that it's still empty. 😢

Playing in VR - anything to do with the SRV. I like the view, love the atmosphere of a Guardian installation - but invariably get simulator sickness after maybe a quarter of an hour. Which makes raw mat (or Guardian artefact) gathering an inevitable chore.

Hmm. Let's see:
  • PowerPlay. I consider it weak, but i just don't use it. So it's not salt-worthy for me.
  • The process of engineering. It's not great, but also not as terrible as it formerly was. I still only do it once a while now, which probably also contributes of me not minding it that much any more.
  • Engineering blueprints. I still consider their power scaling to be terrible. For the health of the game, they should be massively reduced. But for me myself, having several fully engineered ships, they don't mess up my gaming experience.
  • Multi-Crew. The gunnery role is terrible, but having other players fly your SLFs is awesome fun. But it does have several flaws. It's no good to be used with anybody else but close friends. Random people can just join, mess things up for you and leave, without consequences for themselves. Also, the whole "punishing crew members for the ship owner ranking up" system is a bad idea. This is the very only game i play where my friends get less of a reward just because i've spent more time in the game. (Ranks don't say that you are any good in any activity. Only that you spent enough time doing those activities. ) Unfortunatley my friends didn't log in now for almost a year. So all the problems of MC haven't affected me personally since a long time.

I still believe that Engineering blueprints and several aspects of Multi-Crew urgently need to be changed and adjusted. But as the thread is about my "least enjoyable Elite activity", i really can't name one. Based on what i do, it probably would be exploration, but the true reason behind that is my family. I just can't spend long enough gaming sessions in ED by now to really do any meaningful exploration. So i rather focus on activities which can be done in smaller time slots, fighting in HAZRes, hauling tourists for an hour or two, things like that.

Edit: after reading this:

Opening Galnet and seeing that it's still empty. 😢

I have to agree. That's also true for me, this might be the least enjoyable part of playing at the moment.
