Interestingly, in UK, there are no financial incentives for marriage

No tax breaks, favorable financing, or anything of the sort?

I feel the push toward enforcing tradition in the US, while probably statistically justifiable for the state and federal bean counters, ammounts to a collection of perverse incentives that undermine the institutions they are trying to bolster. Whatever the case, I'm a pragmatist and despite my distaste, I will put my name on a sheet of paper if it means they'll extort me for less.

I'd suggest this is in the right ballpark, but not on base.
I'd suggest the work ethic is not the Work that is virtuous per se, but of bearing responsibility, a load to carry, a noble goal or something to work toward. Idleness is not good for the soul., to use an idiom, the devil makes work for idle hands, I think it goes.Look at the NEET phenomenon in the West.

Idleness is plenty good for the soul and the only one who dictates what these hands do is I. Of course, that sort of time and freedom to reflect and question would surely have been denounced by the Kenneth Copelands of history who are dependent on tithes for their own well being.

No doubt there are plenty of people adrift who feel their lives lack meaning, but I'd be surprised if there was a significant correlation with this and how hard they worked. A fulfilling career seems to be the exception, rather than the rule.

Interesting . I like Mr. Musk . Sources ?

I don't mean to be obtuse but I don't actually do twitbook, so: https://twitter.com/elonmusk?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author

The story (according to CNN) is that 3 weeks ago Musk promised to supply 1000 ventilators to hospitals and he hasn't delivered.
Musk posted up a bunch of pictures, thank-yous and receipts from the hospitals that received ventilators.

It seems like CNN, and their supporters are claiming he said he'd send 1000 ventilators to CA and he's "only" supplied a total of 1000 ventilators to hospitals across the USA.
They're also saying he's supplied a bunch of CPAP machines (rather than "proper" ventilators) to some hospitals that specifically asked for CPAP machines.
So, basically, he's done nothing to help at all, right?

All seems a bit confused really.

?

To me seems all a bit like another rich guy with giant ego gets a bit shirty if people question him. See also "pedo (peado) guy" for reference.

Fixed that for ya. ;)

I'm not Musk's biggest fan.
I get the feeling that a lot of the stuff he does is just a "whim" rather than based on any real commitment to an idea.

Bottom line, though, is that he seems to have located a warehouse full of surplus medical stuff (ironically, in China), and spent some of his pocket-change to buy it, ship it to the USA and then distribute it to hospitals.
And CNN's trying to pick fault with that.

No idea - but the article I linked isn't CNN and it seems to be quoting people involved.

For someone so successful financially he seems incredibly insecure in the way he responds to stuff like this.

If I were a drop dead rich person I'd be embarrassed by Elon - I'd feel he was letting the side down by being so prickly and I would have him ejected from the drop dead rich club for demostrating extremely poor form.

How easily we now accept fake news as trivial.

I'm not sure you've demostrated it's fake news yet? Or are you saying I should assume it's fake because it's Fox?

Be specific if you can. I'm not even sure if we are disagreeing.

Hilarious

Anyone calling CNN fake news must be wrong...

Even in a case where it's so easily demonstrated.

Is the earth still flat for you?

So why don't you demonstrate it?

This is the article I read - the latest I could find on a Google search at the time.

https://www.politico.com/states/cal...re-of-elon-musk-ventilator-deliveries-1277318

Are you saying that's all lies?

I honestly don't know from what I've read.

But I can see how fragile Elon's ego is from his own words.

And yes - the earth is flat for me - at least where I'm standing now. If it wasn't I'd probably fall over.

Well there it is

Where you see a man with a fragile ego, I see a man defending himself against slanderous fake news and calling them out on it. And providing the Twitter Feeds that he used to demonstrate, but perhaps you didn't see or read that. When even a darling of the left denounces them you at least have to ask what's going on.

XiNN , has been so wrong for so long that it's beyond deniability.

CNN or as I call it, XiNN , has been so wrong for so long that it's beyond deniability.

Well maybe I'd give him a pass on this if it wasn't for the Thai thing - the pedo guy thing.

You talk about slander but that didn't bother him in the slightest dishing it out the last time he publicly got upset about some hurting his feels and then he tried to weasel his way out of it after.

For me, if you're a rich, successful and clever guy like he is you don't even need to engage with newspapers, or twiiter or any of the other horse manure. You should be above that, immune to it.

You can literally afford to ignore it - that's the whole point of being drop dead rich. I think his reaction to this stuff lessens him.

So yeah, clever, rich, successful but wronged guy defending himself against slander - hmmm, not so much.

Wow

No that there is an amazing analysis that I confess I never would have thought of.

And this has what to do with XiNN's veracity?

Somehow, I think we're not talking about the same thing.

Looks like the ventillator shortage is settling as the rates plateau.
That is good. We need some time to manufacture the ginormous surplus India is going to need, hopefully after the crisis abates in the US and Europe.

ACE2 receptors are found in brain, kidney and nerve tissue.
Infections there give encephalitis with seizures and coma ( saw one today), renal failure needing dialysis, and potentially neural reservoirs for recrudesence later.

There is a growing shortfall in dialysis supplies now.

If SARS Cov 2 can hide alive in nerves like herpesvirus, what happens to people when they get vaccinated?
Mount an immune response vs their nerve tissue? That would create something mechanistically like multiple sclerosis. Vaccine testing is not something we can rush past, because the idea is practically to give it to the whole pkanet.

Not a pleasant thought...sounds like one of Sergei Popov's horror stories.

There has been a LOT of recent buzz about the origin of the virus.

China: "We are innocent heroes, and the dirty Americans spread it here"

USA ( specifically Rupert Murdoch's outfits) : " A lab mistake by incompetent scientists in China went horribly wrong"

Independent genome analysis: "Natural virus."

The Lancet: " And, stop with the conspiracy nonesense!"

If you know nothing about viruses, you would be 🤷‍♂️ what to believe?

Well follow the money. Politicians get rewarded by staying in power. Scientists get rewarded by being right.

The only ones making false claims are the ones who have something to gain.
Did China cover it up? Yes.

Did the US make it?
Well that would be their biggest cockup since Viet Nam, just look what's happening in NYC now. Releasing it before they have a vaccine? Not very likely, is it?

Did China make it and mess up? Or isolate it from nature and leak it?
It's not impossible, but remember everybody and their doggie expected a zoonosis from a wet market in China for the simple reason- it was likely.

The reports we are seeing now are logically politically timed propaganda; can you swallow that POTUS would
A) Not be told before everybody else?
B) Not give an immediate presser to blame China? Followed by sanctions?
Why did that not happen? Because of his savvy and self control? 🙄
Or because it is freshly manufactured after the fact to support him by the usual suspects, in order to appeal to the conspiracy mindset?

Simple rule:
If Intel provides the info, POTUS blurts it BEFORE Fox does.
If he repeats it after Fox, it didn't come from Intel.

The science is as clear as the politics is transparent.

So how's the whole Sweden v Norway experiment going?

So how's the whole Sweden v Norway experiment going?
🇳🇴🇸🇪

The situation i Norway is quite good at the moment. Hospitalized, ICU cases and ventilator are almost half of the peak numbers. Only three deaths yesterday. 152 in total.
Sweden has a harder time at the moment. They struggle a bit with capacity in hospitals. Some 130 deaths yesterday. 1333 in total.

Sweden look ugly, when comparing to Norway and Finland(only 75 dead, so far). When comparing to continental Europe, it doesn't look all that bad.

Norway is opening kindergardens on Monday and primary school 1st to 4th grade, next Monday. It remains to be seen how that affects the good trend.
