Elite IS too easy

So no change from the current situation at all. Got it.
Not at all - not being supportive of some changes does not equate to opposing all changes - it rather depends on what the changes are (and different people have different ideas as to what constitutes a "good" or "bad" change proposal).
and of course agreement is in outline only. It’s spitballing not patch notes
Difficult to examine the ramifications of a spitball compared to what could become patch notes.

Elsewhere I suggested about toning down G1 - G5 engineering to get around this issue- base Core players then would have Guardian and tech broker (and Powerplay) special gear, while Horizons would have depowered engineering that was equal to this (so while not being superior in power you have greater choice).
Most of us have become attached to our engineered ships by now, it may cause a revolt if we have to tone them down: how about allowing the whole of the player base to have access to the engineers from New Era onward? You could just allow them to land on the engineer worlds and nowhere else ..

The issue becomes you are not solving the problem, just allowing power creep- it does not solve how underpowered NPCs are, or how engineering breaks the security levels.

It also does not fix the disparity between tech broker, Guardian kit and engineering, the latter making the former pointless.

That’s what betas are for. Still, there’s so many variables in each piece of “identification” a system has (economy, population, security level, state, power play interaction) that giving each variable a tangible affect that interacts with the player or affects how the player interacts, would go a very long way to making the game more alive, increasing player agency, and make the bubble have dangerous areas, all in ways that benefit pve players and PvP players alike

Yes, I know, and I also agree that the engineerinf mods are too extreme, I was trying to be pragmatic for once

By the time it gets to Beta it's probably too late to fundamentally change (although variable tweaking may happen).

I agree, in principle of course. As ever, the devil's in the detail.... ;)

That is what the thread is about, indeed - however the thread participants do not represent the player-base as a whole.

Some games do indeed have restrictions - this one has a different approach.

Proposing change and "telling" players what they will and will not be able to do is unlikely to gather a broad consensus in favour of any change. Not seeing an issue with something does not mean that there is no issue for everyone.

The pirates still wouldn't exist far from populated systems then (as they themselves would constitute the population of systems).
I remember when Eagles used to show up in Sag A.... :(
