VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

Well at least me and my husband won't have to worry about buying it now lol :p

Hopefully Horizons will still support VR, I'm enjoying the current content fine without atmospheric landings

No VR and I will not buy it. Thanks a LOT to all you that belly ached for space legs. I said from the get go that if they screwed up the piloting of the ships I would be done with the game. well no VR is screwing up the piloting as far as I am concerned. Frontier can shove it.

Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.

Will there be Base Building in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey?
Base building is not currently on the roadmap for Elite Dangerous, however we have plenty of new features planned instead such as on-foot exploration, new planetary tech, social hubs, combat as well as more to be shared later on! We’re looking to put our best foot forward with Odyssey and if you’d like an overview of what to expect, you can check out the website or Steam page.

Will Elite Dangerous: Odyssey be included in my Lifetime Expansion Pass?
While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is a paid expansion, we're happy to confirm that yes, this expansion will absolutely be included in the Lifetime Expansion Pass for free.

I don't think anyone has said VR is being removed, just that the new FPS features are not compatible, pretty much what most have thought. Will still need full dev confirmation though.

Full removal would sadly end an enjoyable 5 years for me, that's not a threat to the devs, the new MS sim is probably going to take 90% of time away from any other sims.

Actually they have announced they are removing VR in Odyssey :-(

Yeah same, If VR is removed from EVERYTHING, even the space flight aspect, I'd look elsewhere for a space game that does support it. I only really kill Thargoids so the surface stuff isn't a big deal to me. I know not to buy Odyssey at least :p

Oh well, good to know. Won’t be wasting more time with this game then. So long elite... what a dissapointment.

It's funny because I do enjoy certain titles on a normal screen (been playing snow runner a lot) But flying in ED on a normal screen, no way could I ever go back to that. I run ED on a normal screen or my laptop if I plan to spend a lot time not flying or driving. It would be like going back to a top down game. Not happening 😂

Just can't wrap my head around how it would work out.
I certainly won't log off, change my settings, and restart the game to disembark.
So I will take a very close look at the features and see if they are worth playing the game solely in 2D (as I currently do half the time)
or if not.

I fear two things: VR support is gonna be dropped entirely because it's not economical to develop both, and for the same reason, even if it will still be supported for Horizons,
it won't be developed for Odyssey.

Really not happy with those announcements. Really not happy.
