Yesterday in France there was a street demonstration.

There were 20,000 people on each other.

There are people who don't want to know anything about restrictions and physical distancing.

I understand why people are ed off about that bloke in the US being murdered by the police. We all saw it, it is horrible.

BUT....

I don't live in the US and I haven't spent the last 3 months of my life not seeing any of my friends and family not taking any leave to keep the power on, for everyone else so right at the last minute thousands of people can stomp around moaning about something they have no influence whatsoever over in another county.

Of course black lives matter but so do the lives of all the old people that will die as a direct result of the R going up.

I approve, of course. :)

I've learned some interesting things about my own culture during this time. Most of which I don't like. The reason we have failed at stopping the virus so terribly is because we only learn from our own experience. You can tell us all you like but we won't listen to you or anything anyone says about (frankly) anything until our own morons (leaders) relearn the same things.

We have a toxic mix of leaders that pick scientist that say what they want them to and when they don't they get fired.

Leaders often lean on others to justify their mistakes.

Responsible but not guilty.

Doing this all from my phone while at work. May or may not have posted the the correct article nor do I have the time to double check atm. And this website seems to hate my phone :p

While the riots and other social things seem to be dominating the news cycle, here's something interesting:
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office has released their full and final autopsy report on the death of George Floyd, noting that he had tested positive for COVID-19, but it was not a contributing factor in his death.

I'm going to suggest it was a contributing factor to the rioting that followed.

Increased societal stress, cumulative fear of death from an invisible source, and then the presentation of a threat from a well known old enemy = exaggerated focused response like lifting the lid of a pressure cooker. Displacement is the term used for application of emotion from one source to another because it cannot be expressed at the first. Can you mass protest against a virus? No. You lockdown. Can you get tribal support against a common enemy? No, you isolate.

So now we get this.

Pretending that everything is back to normal, or ignoring the virus and doing social adjustments( protesting, rioting, massing military, arresting, tear gas) instead of isolating is going to get people killed.
George Floyd knew he was positive. Why is he maskless, in an enclosed store, having arguments about fake money? Because 20$ is more important in the minds of the general public than 100,000+ deaths? Police officers making an arrest- are they wearing antivirus gear? No. Are they minimizing contact with people to protect themselves? No, they are busy strangling them in a close cluster so they can all inhale.

The general failure of the US education system is going to be paid in full this year. You don't understand basic science? Tough. You or your loved ones are getting sick and dying because you don't.

It is going to cost a lot more lives, trash the economy further, and irrevocably alter the politics.

Viral particles do not know or care about our travails. They just relentlessly do what is in their 16kb code. You think the Terminator was single minded? Ha.

Apply the understanding to the facts, and predict:
eg: the 4 accused officers with zero PPE in close proximity to the dying, gasping, exhaling, maskless Covid 19 positive man are now arrested and going to be put into a prison. They were all home with other people before that. Also - maskless, of course, in their homes because murder charges are something rather distracting eh?

What will happen next, Scooby?
