The only thing excluding you is a personal choice you have made.
It's like me saying I'm excluded from the VR section of Elite because I don't have the kit.
Or me being excluded because of my eye.

Guys I should point out. I have a fair bit of time in VR. Researchers wanted to know more. I volunteered my time. It was painful. Literally. It wasn't for fun. It was real science. I didn't even get paid because I just wanted to provide data. Maybe one day a solution for people in my medical situation can be found.

Games used for testing included ED and DCS.

One of my mates also has VR. I've played ED on my account in VR thanks to him.

Yes. It's awesome. I do understand the reaction. I do want to see VR support, despite not being able to use it without severe pain. Worse than motion sickness. Much worse.

But everyone complaining here has a choice. Nobody "can't" not play with VR. It's simply that they do not want to.

I wish I had such luxury of choice.

I hit the like button again  Anyway, I already have the Lifetime Pass so this is paid for. They have taken away the VR functionality of the game. I have been playing the game this way since it was introduced 6 years ago. Don't tell me to not buy something I have already paid for.
Dont pay in advance for something when you dont know for sure what you are going to get. Seems like sound logic to me

I can understand the upset, but i can also see that it would have been stupid to delay an update in an attempt to get VR to work, and more importantly, work equally well with non-VR players. I can imagine the rage had they churned out a poor VR experience, it would have been much worse.

Im pretty patient when it comes to the game but id be pretty annoyed if there was another delay just to get it to work in VR for what is a relatively small amount of the player base. They've not said it definately wont appear and hopefully they'll give further details when they start going into the game in more detail.

PC users waited had a couple of delays for consoles. I didn't mind, because DB mentioned his intention to support consoles before the game was released. I do get your point, though.

I have an LEP too. If a DLC were 'sold' that required a VR helmet, I would have to buy one to be able to use it. I might reasonably be annoyed about that, but presumably you already have a monitor.

You are not losing something, as I did with the 3.3 update. You just aren't getting as much extra as you were hoping for. SNAFU for FDev.

I empathise. But functionality was pointlessly removed from the 3.3 update with no benefit to anyone, here something new to everyone will not (inittially?) have extra functionality that seems quite tricky to integrate into what has so far been a game where the player avatar is a vehicle.

People are not losing out, they just aren't getting as much extra as they were hoping for. I empathise, I am sympathetic, but as far as we are aware no existing functionality is being removed as was the case with the old discovery modules.

So I can also understand why some other contributors are taking the 'well tough' stance, because FDev have at least provided some prompt justification this time.

JUST DON'T BUY ODYSSEY IF IT DOESN'T SUPPORT THE HARDWARE YOU WANT IT TO.
It's not that simply, we VR players have shelled out money on the game and hardware and much more importantly time, which has the greatest value. Many of us have invested greatly in the VR game. I spent over £2.5k in a new VR PC and rift S, yes I have played Half Life Alyx but this purchase was specifically for elite that is 99% of my game play. I can't put a value on my investment in time. Not supporting the hardware we have is very different from removing it and throwing away that investment.

I am voting with my wallet. Was considering buying a VR headset to play ED. Will save myself the money now!

Just seen someone selling a 2nd hand 2015 Oculus Rift DK2 720p set on Ebay for £50!!!. I paid £200 for mine second hand in 2016. works ok with ED too, even 720p looks nice , and that was under buggy windows 7, never tried it under Windows 10.

Again. VR hasn't been removed from the game. All we know for sure is that Its simply not being added to a new aspect of Elite. The language being used in the thread is simply wrong.

In terms of the LTP, everyone who purchased the LTP did so "on a punt" - we had no detailed understanding of what it would (or would not) include, nor was one given. So this isn't a valid argument - there is no contract here which guaranteed the type of content to be delivered, only that there would be some.

So, unless I've missed any newer dev posts, the questions for me are still:

What planets are explorable?

- The trailer shows a fairly lifeless planet with atmosphere. What other planet types will be included? (Earth likes, water worlds, ammonia worlds, planets with volcanic activity)

What areas of the game are explorable on foot?

  • Surface exteriors only?
  • base/station/port interiors?
  • Our own ship interiors?
  • Other NPC/player interiors?
  • Capital/mega/generation/carrier ships?
  • EVA?

Will there be measures to prevent on-foot Cmdrs from being very vulnerable to ship attack?

- Such as having no HUD marker so at least they'd be harder for ships to see.

Will all the content by 'gated' to Odyssey, or will some be brought across to ED / Horizons owners (as some graphical improvements previously were)?

- If Odyssey doesn't have VR at launch, I'm sure the VR players would want to at least experience some of the graphical improvements rather than being locked out of everything.

Please understand that this is a major change for those of us lucky enough to have experienced this game in VR.
Is it though?
So many of the "VR crowd", before it was announced there would be no support at launch, were busy bleating about vomiting over their keyboards or not being able to control their CMDR in FPS, and how they would be disdavantaged over the KB/M crowd, etc, ad nauseum...
Now they are up in arms that they can't play in VR from launch...
Priceless...

Yes, I play in VR, Yes I have a high-end PC... Do I actually care over much? No, not really, I still play more than 50% of the time in pancake because of RL constraints, I'll just play anyway - so, can't play the new content in VR at launch, oh well, that's life 🤷‍♂️

I'm not telling you to be happy with your lot, i'm saying vote with your wallet, it's the only good bargaining chip you have. Look it at from my perspective, when i bought ED in Jan 2015 there was no VR, was no Horizions, half as many ships, no lucrative way to earn credits, we didnt even have limpets as miners what are you doing, it was manual scooping!

I still put down £120 for a lifetime pass because i was an keen BBC micro player of elite in the mid 80's. It's now 5 years on and i still havent had anywhere near VFM from my lifetime pass, do you know know the only perk i have? Jet Black Paintjob for any ship, so if you see a jet black Drake class F/C next week you will know who owns it!!

But I don't spend every waking minute posting on forum after forum how "stiffed" i was helping FD get off the ground after the kickstarter money ran out, and what i have for my money anyone can now buy for £40.

Jesh!
£120 for 5 years of gameplay. So less than 50p a week. 50p a week will get you in to see a film every 16 weeks at my local cinema. So 3 hours (being generous here) entertainment every 16 weeks. So if you have had an average 12 minutes entertainment a week then I reckon you have had value for money!
Now other people have come along later and paid less and have the same product as you, but they won’t have had it for so long. That is the way of the world, particularly with computers and tech. It has been that way as long as I have been buying it. I bought the original BBC Elite on disc the day it was launched. A year later could have paid a lot less. Did I feel cheated? No I reckon I had got more than £19.99 it cost me in gameplay.
Compared with the sort of sums people spend on MMO’s £120 is small in comparison. Eve is what $15 a month and that is cheap by most standards.
