I love a good analogy however this is flawed ... For me at least and I suspect others.... Running with the food analogy it's more like going into a restaurant and ordering a 12oz sirloin and instead getting a few chips and an onion ring. Then when you complain getting told to shut up you can still eat your chips stop whining there are people here who are vegitarian and don't eat meat ... Think of them you selfish entitled whiner.....

(But I only came here for the steak... If I was gonna get chips and nowt else I would have gone to the chippy for £2 and not spent £20 on a sirloin)

That is how important VR is in ED for many of us, it's not the garnish on the side it is the main part.
I’m also not one for the analogies, but this situation reminds me of the Christmas 1977 gift box for Star Wars - the manufacturers had been caught on the back foot by demand and basically made an empty box for figures that hadn’t been produced yet - except this time the promise of the 3d action figures in the near future has been removed and we’re just stuck with the cardboard cutouts to play with...

Off the VR topic but still on thread topic....

Do you folks think we will be getting new/other classic ships? I would like to see some more SRVs and SLFs as well. Maybe a water craft or something. I wonder what the weapons will be like. The video made me think of mass effect, which i loved btw. Im looking forward to this update.

Also im sure there will be some stuff to complement the soon to be newly added FCs. What are some thing the rest of you fine folk are hoping to see? aside from VR support for Odyssey down the road hopefully

There was a thread the other day that made mention of a specialised cargo ship, I'd like to see something like that. In keeping with Spacelegs, some form of planetary flyer might be cool too.

I'd like different SRV's for sure. Water craft would be cool but we'd need water ...

I'd love for FDev to give us a definitive Small Arms list. It's becoming important for my story writing !

I meant around Pittsburgh. Rich people treat middle and lower class people like a lesser species.
They just need a "norm" to bring em back to earth. Way back when my mate surprised visited me with his brand new Aston Martin. He took me for a spin, alas I had been drinking at a BBQ all day. He soon lost his cool suarve look having to pull up on the side of the road whilst I had to have an emergency bladder relief

People can have the nicest toys in the world but someone like me soon brings em down to earth ;)

God I would hope so. I love elite but if it had just half of the things NMS does it would be near perfect. Caves and bodies of water to explore would be great. I would love exploration gameplay that didn't depend on me role playing all the fine points.

Legs should help with that. Being able to actually walk around with friends will be great.... I have little faith the fps combat will be compelling but I won't write it off.

The biggest mistake they could make is have only partially atmos planets... This has been the number 1 request since the beginning and not having that ready out the box will be a huge mistake.

Dude, you've been about the game long enough to have seen every quote/statement/interview with David Braben, so I won't clutter this post with quotes/videos etc... But given your long involvement with the game, how can you not see that VR has been touted as a core feature of the game since they baked it into alpha release in December 2013.

Was that the same David Braben who was also was in two minds about VR?

So while he supports VR, he also says "It has that slightly 'bandwagon' feel about it "

Also to add dreams on ps4 kind of spoiled me onto what's possible in a game. The ability to have user created mission content is a pipedream for me...

But I definitely don't buy into the notion that it's not possible. Not anymore.

Oh yea, we probably wont get water worlds right away if at all but I'm hopeful. I wonder if the cargo ship would be the panther clipper ive heard so much about. I seem to remember seeing there were a crazy number of different ships in previous games there were a few in some of the books that havent made it to the current version too. The saker for example. Maybe they could retcon that as a planetary ship?

That was 5 years ago.

im pretty much certain that the new Planetary tech and graphical upgrades are going to be integrated to the base game, throughout all expansions. they cannot restrict those things to only the DLC since they involve changes to the engine itself. cannot have an expansion running on a different engine than it's original base game. they are linked. so that should be some good news, for people who aren't buying odyssey. (y)

I don't think you can confidently make such an assumption. If DLCs in ED were something that were enabled or disabled at runtime, I would tend to agree. But Elite is started using a separate launcher application. technically you could launch Pac-Man listed as a "DLC" in the launcher, if the launcher actually fires up a unique standalone executable for each of the base/Horizons/Odyssey.

Over 10 million headsets sales later, I suspect VR has proven itself as more than just a passing bandwagon.

From the couple of excellent comments posted about playing ED in VR against any other mode...
Those who do not have VR (for whatever reason) or haven't tried a well-written VR experience (Oculus First Encounters was mentioned on one of the current threads) are completely unable to understand the difference - it is really quite profound (and I'd play considerably more in VR if circumstances were different) and really is very much the difference in being 'on the outside looking in' to being 'on the inside looking out'.

I fully understand (and 50% side with) the disappointment felt by VR users of Odyssey launching without VR support (and I assume that the other 'shiny' bits will not dribble down to Horizons) and the upset being expressed by them/us...

I only said 50% as I do play pancake more than VR and didn't spend 'heaps of money' on equipment (bar HOTAS) just to play ED, which it appears some may have done exactly that.

I'm just an incurable optimist (and hope to remain that way until they hammer the nails down) and hope that the "at launch" exclusion doesn't mean "not ever"...

I imagine there should be caves to explore. I believe it was mentioned there would be things you have to get out of your srv to explore. Or maybe getting inside the guardian ruins. Now theres something to add for xeno archaeology

What we do have in Galnet is an article:

"Vodel, manufacturer of the Scarab SRV, has been purchased by Core Dynamics following a downturn in profits. Core Dynamics CEO Jupiter Rochester made a statement confirming that his company would retain Vodel’s core team of designers and engineers. Business analysts are viewing the acquisition as a smart investment." https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/21-APR-3305

Which may hint us that new SRV models can be expected to arrive with Odyssey...

I commented about that many months ago and everyone insisted it was fluff
