🤣 🤣 FD has the actual numbers. You don't. You just don't want to accept the obvious. VR is a niche technology.
As you keep repeating, completely ignoring the fact that neither you or me have the actual numbers. Even if FD has taken a strategic decision based on actual numbers of VR players, that does not mean that they have judged that player pool's intentions or state correctly. But I suppose you are just a numbers guy without actual numbers and think nothing apart from numbers can translate to numbers.

Even if VR is niche, the VR player base in Elite is significant. Whether you like it or not. In fact, you have added very little in terms of actual content to this thread apart from antagonizing the VR population.

Yes, yes it would. Perhaps it would help to avoid massive threadnaughts like this for what should be a fairly minor reveal about what the next DLC is going to contain.
Frontier is pretty bad at this. They announced planet coaster for consoles over 8 months ago and its been crickets ever since. You want a new audience to get excited for a 6 year old game and you say nothing after the release.

Admittedly after a few hours you want to scratch the skin of your face. It's worth it but could definitely be improved.

PS want to know something weird? In VR, if I don't have my distance contact lenses in, stuff in the distance is blurred like in real life. Even the screens are only a couple of inches from my eyes. My optician is baffled.
I know, it's weird. Even though the screens are millimetres from my eyes, I don't need reading glasses. 😵

If you don't like the game - don't play it - each to their own - go sprinkle your salt on another game or better yet, give it to the farm animals, they need a good lick ...

I do like the game. if I didn't I would bother posting when something concerning gets announced. That would be stupid. Almost as stupid as telling people they can't voice their opinions on a discussion forum.

  • I'm OK waiting a little länger to get proper, great VR support. I'm not OK buying the DLC and then hoping they do decide to add it at some point. (PSVR, anyone?)

I bought PSVR & PS4 Pro as soon as ED was announced for PS4. But still can have fun with other VR-Games and non-VR ED.
But already tired of regular game, played since 2015, Mac then Windows then PS4. So can‘t wait for Odyssey, will buy it for PS4 and PC and hopefully finally get some more interesting content, like a diversified mission system! Hope to see more news soon. Of course I also hope for VR support on PS5, on PC it is simply to complicated to be fun.

Going direct to market has been a learning opportunity for them. Some things are done very well, I've been to a couple of their parties & they were excellent, at both I met & chatted with other players about what they do in the game. There were minor reveals at both which was interesting, and at both I chatted with staff about issues & future developments where they were engaged, knowledgeable & conciliatory, although the phrase 'don't worry about it' was used rather too much with hindsight & the phrase 'trust me' is never a good sign imo.

Still, could be worse :)

How is VR too complicated to be fun on PC?

Ummm, run the game, put headset on, job done. Complicated?

So you enjoy tens of minutes staring into the black NOTHING during supercruise in ED, but go mad about watching 1 minute at diverse and beauty landscapes in other game? Sounds like ELITE FANBOYISM INTENSFYING :D
Fret not as after all these corridors boredom, SC challenges you with tens of minutes of quantum traveling with no control over your ship. At least in supercruise I'm still in command of my ship.

And please, don't get me started with "activities" in your ship while traveling. First they don't exist, two there's no guarantee they'll be fun and enough to pass the time.

Oh yeah, floor mopping, drink mixing and poop simulation will be awesome gameplay.

I think the real reason O doesn't have VR support is performance related.

Maybe they are not using their engine anymore and are using Unreal (or Unity heh), so therefore they don't know how to do it (yet). Or don't have time (yet). Or can't be bothered (whenever).

Either that or the performance of the "new tech" is so low in Cobra on even high end machines that even reaching 45fps in VR is impossible. NMS managed to do it though (flying, walking, running, shooting, digging, building bases and milking/riding cows), and their graphical engine is nowhere as good or efficient as elites. At the time, I was getting 60fps on planets in ED where I was lucky to get 30fps in NMS in 2d mode (often 22fps ugh).

Did you go to the launch party in Duxford? My apologies if you did and we chatted.... That part of my life is a blur , I had a fab night but it all got a bit hazy.... The free bar with help yourself spirits was a recipie for disaster

Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?

Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.

Extremely disappointed about VR not coming for Odyssey. When I saw the Odyssey announcement I was excited that maybe I would be able to walk around inside my ship in VR (like properly, not just moving the camera around). Its a shame you will not support it.

I don't have a problem with you sharing an opinion - but stating its the death of Elite is overly melodramatic, really? Smacks of the usual salt and I called it for what it is. We can debate the minutia of every bit of our back and forth all day long, but my T-9 is loaded and I've got cargo to haul. I'll agree to disagree with your opinions and leave it at that. Adios and fly safe CMDR o7 (y)
