yep. and if you look up "Odyssey" on google:
definition 1: a long wandering or voyage usually marked by many changes of fortune
definition 2: an intellectual or spiritual wandering or quest

i bet something is suspicious here. or not, who knows.

I was somewhat alluding to this. It might be in-game now, but is probably locked behind something we won't be able to access until Odyssey drops or some future DLC.

Alas, Raxxla is a myth. Present only in the book, (and not much), but not in the game. I did research on Raxxala for 1 year, read the books, (in English not my native language), articles, etc. My conclusion: Myth. 👀

OK... I've had time to think and I've had two days to mope. I've soaked up comments from the forum and listened to tubers who I had a lot of time for and really respected for their input and their voice that was often listened to by FDev. However, they seem so excited about being able to play a new FPS game that they to seem to have abandoned the VR minority (as we are known as. Be aware though... we are all a minority in some aspect) and are ok with throwing VR under the Beluga. Reality does bite hard and as a LEP player, the realisation that support and loyalty count for very little in the commercial world can be quite liberating. I owe nobody anything, don't need to buy ARX don't need to buy Planet Coaster expansions, don't need to get involved. I still have Elite Horizons for now and hopefully for sometime in the future perhaps... and it will be populated by many VR players of like mind and approach to the game for a while. Odyysey does look good in many aspects... planets, skies, new engine... but I'm not entirely convinced these are the space legs you were all looking and hoping for... 'looking forward to shooting a Thargoid in the head' a comment made by one well known and respected youtuber on a livestream. Well that's not for me. I can't abandon VR, the ability to look around without having to press or twiddle something, the sense of scale inside each ship... especially when you stand up and move around, albeit slightly is in my opinion, far more rewarding than running around on a rocky surface with a gun... there's counterstrike or insurgency for that.

Don't misunderstand me here... this is not a rant, this is not a complaint... this is me, writing to myself exorcising my pain before I turn my back and move on to something else that hopefully arrives in the next months or years or so that equals or betters Elite as it is... as it could have been... a big ask!

Oh well... life moves on I suppose.

Not saying I don't believe you but...

About Raxxla...
  1. Michael Brookes said “There will be no clues.”
  2. David Braben said “It’s out there and we (FD) know where it is.”

Yes I know all that. But I didn't find anything concrete in the game. I would have liked but no ... If you think that Raxxla exists in the game, it's good for you and it will occupy you for a few years. I hope you will find.

A well written post there.

I was initially super excited when the trailer first leaked, I think I even did an involuntary “yuss!” fist pump, and then started thinking about all the myriad ways it could go wrong (and right!). I was especially hoping to replicate one minor part of my (modded) SkyrimVR experience - being able to look down at my feet as they kick up dust and leave a trail of footprints.

After the disappointment hammer was dropped I’ve slowly but surely arrived at this point today: I don’t care about the expansion any more. I’ll probably play some of it flatscreen to see what it’s like, but my worries about its quality have drifted away in FAoff.

If more features turn out to be not included in Odyssey, then I’ll feel sorry for all those players who got their hopes up, even if it includes the forum posters who like pointing and laughing at others’ disappointment.

So you've check every planet in every system, every asteroid and 100% of the space in between then? Amazing
Of course not. It is impossible to find Raxxla at random among billions of planets and stars. It is mandatory to have clues, leads, informations. I am organized and methodical, so I sought this information before embarking on the pursuit of Raxxla. Alas, in vain. But it was interesting.

OK back onto VR. The most frustrating thing for me is that we have waited years for this update. Only to be let down at the last second. Even then it took 63 pages after the announcement to confirm it. An afterthought.

I only hope we can salvage something from this mess.

Whilst initially mega excited from the reveal video, that feeling has been completely wiped out.

I have woken after a couple of days thinking and I can't say I feel any better about the no VR announcement, than when the announcement came and I'll try to sum up why.

As far as I'm concerned, I feel like I have been deliberately excluded from the future of Elite Dangerous and one I have been invested in since kickstarter. I also think the VR community largely feels the same way. This is not some wish list item that has either not or only half materialised, this is a feature being consciously removed.

As such I'm going to play Horizons (I'm still not Elite after 5/6 years), wait for clarifications on where the VR line will be drawn and if its still a policy of exclusion and mediocrity, will likely move back into Flight Sims or even back into developing my own back burner project.

Supposedly there are clues for those with eyes to see. Apparently we're all just blind 😉

But they did say in some manner that it's supposed to be a little bit obvious which I'm driven slightly mad over

Wait until you try searching for The Holy Grail. Now that's a puzzle!

Codex entry about Raxxla is there, and FDev said they are removing stuff that are not in game, only 'garnishing' - so codex entry should be a confirmation that something is indeed in the game.

Oh my! flight sim is the next kick in the teeth waiting for me... £79 for pmdg 737 NGX for FSX, had to rebuy for p3d for £100, MS return stabbing LM in the back, P3D will go (probably) pmdg will state the 737 ngx for ms2020 is a new product and you will need to rebuy... this will be typical of many of my add-ons... I can't afford to keep up... Elite has been my saviour. I hope your project takes off... going through the pain will make you a better producer.

That's the way I feel too. I fired up ED:H last night and it was still there in all its VR glory. I am not interested in FPS at all and if I want to fly around an atmosphere planet I can take the DC3 for a spin in X-Plane 11. Also VR ahem. So long as FD keep supporting VR in ED:H as they seemed to have said they would then I am happy. There are far more important things to get upset about IRL at the moment, indeed ever.
