The biggest mystery is what will we use this giant stapler for? 😜

We'll, Star Citizen announced that they are fully supporting VR, but have said it won't be for a while. Who knows? If they actually manage to finish that damn game before going broke Fdev might have something to worry about *hint hint.
Hi. Is that recent news or just the stretch goal from 2013? If recent news that's fab news but I would love a link please as last I heard it was uncertain as well. Thanks

I think I would probably go and buy a console instead. I did consider getting a console to play ED, but the general consensus was PC was a better experience.
I play on console. Its fun, but PC players got it beat. I played on a friend's PC that had VR a HOTAS and a console pad that had button and switches to active systems and stuff it was super fun. But I still live playing on console (Xbox One) and we might get VR with next gen.

Star Citizen have announced a lot of things. It remains to be seen if they ever deliver on many of them. Squadron ‘42 is a good example. It is due for release this year and here we are in June and it has all gone very quiet!

I watched 'The Road To PS5'. I'm not a PC snob, and I think this up's the ante considerably. I was very very impressed with what I saw and heard. I think it could actually tip the scales (PC vs Console). Good on you Sony, hopefully we'll see less greed from the likes of Nvidia et. al.; now the competition is hot.

If I can get a better gaming experience from a box that doesn't have to be optimised by developers for every possible hardware configuration, and has VR; I'm all over it. My PC can be freed up for recording music.
We will see. The original PS was supposed to blow away the PC gaming market when it was launched. I think it did cause the PC developers to up their game. maybe PS5 will do the same.

Don't worry, im about as optimistic as you are about anything SC related. As someone who backed it back when it was on Kickstarter I can fully say the game is barely more than a tech demo since they keep piling more ideas and concepts into it without finishing a single one. A year ago we were supposed to have a procedural solar system at least, with trading and all the other working, basically a playable game- but they decided to complicate it way more than we wanted and now it'll never come out. I'm just waiting to see whether CIG go broke or not before we see something that's a 'game' from them.
I do like the idea of poking fun at FDev about how even Star Citizen want to ad VR in their convoluted game

Yeah they reconfirmed it in February I think, it was definitely recently this year
Yeah, I think a junior dev said VR was in the plans in March.

There are lots of unknown questions which need to be solved and requires a collaboration from various teams here.

I imagine we will implement VR in stages, e.g. for a first step just being able to view ships in the hangar or using it in a cockpit. But a full VR implementation similar to Half Life Alyx is a whole different story.

I can’t and won’t make any promises but my personal goal is to have something similar to Alyx 🙂

That's nice.

Boredgamer, SC streamer who transcribed the quote above, then adds:

BUT don’t expect VR support for a good few years yet AFTER they have their Vulkan API integration they can then make some plans for VR potentially BUT expect them to be LONG LONG TERM. The Longer they wait the better when it comes to devs skilled in VR & hardware available etc…

So ... soonâ„¢ ?

I've no idea. I watched a video (you may have watched it as well), from someone that used to work at EA, for PC I think on graphics, and he too was impressed like me.

I only know bits and pieces from building a couple of PC's since 2014, and before that could make very basic (literally BASIC) programs on the BBC Micro, so I'm not all that knowledgeable, but I understood a fair amount enough to see it as a rather considerable piece of kit. I especially thought that the approach to managing how the SSD interacts with the CPU and Memory was very good.
