On the plus side: there are going to be people in the ED galaxy!!

One of my big complaints about the game is how static and empty it can seem. But if we can see people walking/hopping about, it'll start to feel like a populated galaxy. Next question: will "on-foot" NPC people have voices, or communicate through text chat? "These sneakers are in the top 1% of all sneakers out there...." ???

Some life in the universe - yes please. :)

...but, hopefully not: "hopping about"... I'd really prefer to see realistic human motion in Elite, over characters that moonwalk about at 50km/h, swivel around like weathervanes, bunnyhop everywhere, and start and stop with zero regard to inertia, as they flit around like confused mosquitoes, whilst spouting out-of-gameworld nonsense and abuse. :p

Less of a problem with NPC:s. :7

Problem is, of course, that such unrealistic motion exists for very good reasons: Gameplay flow and input-response latency -- it's really annoying and clunky-feeling to let go of your walk key, and then have to sit there and watch your remote-controlled-like-a-vehicle-as-opposed-to-being-an-extension-of-you avatar play out a two-second stop animation, that leaves them standing a full metre ahead of where you intended. :p

Hope FDev have come up with a good balance. :7

I can never make my mind up where you stand on the VR thing, sometimes it looks like you are baiting the VR guys, other times you appear to be sympathetic/empathetic to our cause? Devils Advocate maybe? Either way, when I see your microbes tagline in a post I know its going to be entertaining and add to the conversation.
I find the VR community very friendly. I’m not a VR player

You know I love almost everyone and I try to put things in perspective.

So I move from one state to another on the same subject.

It’s never mean, just for fun and to lighten the mood of the forum sometimes. :)

I've never taken you as mean, and like I said, when I see the microbes at the bottom of a post, I know it is going to add value to the conversation :)

By the time it's actually released it will 100% be too late, unless you're implying VR support for Odyssey is going to come five years down the line when the next expansion comes out. FDev need to know now that it's a critical feature or it won't be coming to Odyssey.
Of course they know it's a critical feature, I am quite sure they are not just turning off VR in Odyssey because they hate us or to spite us, which is why I don't understand why people are complaining so much about it.

Sometimes developers missjudge how important certain features are. They are only human after all.

Had it not been for gamer outcry the Xbox 1 would have been an online only console. That is a fact.
FD were going to have instant fast travel for ship transfer, they were going to have 200 golfballs for scanning planets, they were going to sell in-game credits on their store and let skins be earnable in game. All this was changed due to very vocal complaints

"Not at launch" means that it will drop at a later date. If it wasn't coming at all they'd have said "Odyssey will not have VR support"

It's pretty simple.

Everything that is currently in VR is going to stay that way (piloting and driving), so it would make sense if the new worlds we'll be landing on followed the same rule.
VR will likely only be disabled when you get out of your seat.
Still disappointing, but understandable.

Will it really be 250 pages without a satisfactory response over VR?
...where I come from thats just plain rude!

From page #63:

Greetings Commanders,

Thank you for your overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. We’ve been really excited to share this and it’s amazing to see that you all feel the same way!

This is just the beginning and we will be sharing more details and information in the coming months that you can look forward to.

We’re seeing all your streams, videos, posts and questions and, today, we wanted to answer a few for you straight away:

Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?

Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.

Will there be Base Building in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey?
Base building is not currently on the roadmap for Elite Dangerous, however we have plenty of new features planned instead such as on-foot exploration, new planetary tech, social hubs, combat as well as more to be shared later on! We’re looking to put our best foot forward with Odyssey and if you’d like an overview of what to expect, you can check out the website or Steam page.

Will Elite Dangerous: Odyssey be included in my Lifetime Expansion Pass?
While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is a paid expansion, we're happy to confirm that yes, this expansion will absolutely be included in the Lifetime Expansion Pass for free.

Stay Safe, Commanders o7

Of course 'satisfactory' is subjective, like 'no true scotsman' ;)
