Don't need VR Legs, but since Odyssey won't even allow VR Flight, guess this is end of the road for many :/

Hello games has been saying hold my beer (I can afford loads as I suckered a load of people to buy the game with a bunch of lies), while he turns a complete turd into a a not so complete turd of a game. In my view, it's still not a patch on ED, but if you like NMS, go for it. I just don't see the attraction.

Jeez do you "have" to be so angry towards NMS?? We get it you don't like HG or NMS, but it WAS a damn good game on launch for many (just not the mp crowd which was the main panty wetting complaint) and has got MUCH better with every free update. FD could do worse than to follow HGs example.

Isn't that just Star Wars stepping up to what Frontier already do? SWS doesn't have a "legs" component, does it?
Not only that I've a horrible suspicion it will have no HOTAS support, it'll be SWBF2 style in a separate game...gamepad only...I SO hope I'm wrong on that assumption though.

It wouldn't even make sense if you could fly in VR in space and on airless worlds but then all of a sudden VR is disabled because of a thin, blue sky.
They'll control it through the launcher just like they do now with Horizon, if you launch the base game you can't land on planets and With Odyssey R would be disabled if you picked that option in the launcher.

Any other good space sims out there that would utilize my sim rig or is it safe to dismantle it? Flight sims don't interest me as I can fly those IRL if I wanted to.

Let's what and see. They're fully aware of the players hopes now, all the raging and insults and threats not buy Odyssey won't make any difference either way.

Well, of course not. The decision not to implement VR is of course also done financially, meaning it is not needed to earn them money.

Having so many hours in the game in VR, I am now largely unable to play it outside of VR. It is not like I'm playing the game differently if I play it on a screen, it is like I am playing a different game and one that I do not want to play. That is not a dig at players who play without VR, this is my personal experience with the game. So to me, the news that Odyssey will not support VR isn't "the game will be slightly different", but rather "with this new release, we will no longer be developing the game you play".

A decision to not buy Odyssey isn't a threat from me. It's simply doesn't have much to do with the game I spend my hours in, and thus it is not something I am interested in. A new development chapter of course also means that future patches and releases will be based on that build, which means the end of the cycle for the game as I enjoy it.

Surely FD can just have a simple check for VR and disabled any missions with legs?

I’m sure they could, but given Legs seem to be the main pillar of Odyssey it just seems like something they’d be loathe to do. Having an 'off switch' for your main feature addition etc.

So if VR is definitely coming to Odyssey why not just say that? Why let this go on for this long without? If they were planning to add it at some point they could have just said so but the way they handled this makes it look like they're either not sure or have no intention of ever adding VR to Odyssey.
Right, they are either not sure, if they can make it work at all or if they want to spend the budget for implementation.

I'm not angry. I just think the games a load of turd which I'm fully entitled to think. Others may feel differently, good on them. As to whether you think NMS has got much better is purely subjective. For me it's made it marginally better, but at the end of the day not enough to get it out of the turd category. Oh and I generally play on my own in ED.

I would never want Fdev to follow HGs example.

We are going to see a remap of terrain, that is clear from the trailer. I highly doubt Horizons planets will have different tech than Odyssey planets. It makes zero sense to divide the player base further. Horizons will be excluded from gameplay, not visual updates.
In what regard are the visuals dividing the player base? When Horizons launched it had different planetary rendering than the base game, requiring more memory and performance. Therefore it seems reasonable to assume, that planets stay as they are in Horizons, besides maybe some basic changes in lighting or general engine updates.

There is an issue there though. If planetary features have changed the need to apply to both as when someone who is logged into Odyssey is playing with someone logged into horizons on a non-atmospheric planet, they really need to be playing from the same hymn sheet. So I 100% expect horizons players to get to see the updated visuals as well.

That is a fair point. Core vs Horizons didn't have that potential for shared spaces where geography could be different. If the new tech alters terrain (and outpost placement etc) then you'd think they'd have to be the same. (Otherwise driving a Horizons buggy next to an Odyssey buggy on a non-atmos planet is gonna get weird pretty fast, for a start ;))

Likewise for VR though on "off" switch for that is equally bad, I just think it would be a pretty bad PR backfire as it's a backward step when so many other devs are moving into VR.

So you don't want loads of free content that add a lot to the game? ;)

Strange how you do often jump to Elite defense when others call it a "turd", ho hum.

What does "new tech" mean exactly in Odyssey context? Atmo planets? Or something else?

Well for me all I can glean is new planetary tech? That's all I'm basing my thoughts on. The trailers planet did seem to be of a higher quality dust bowl desert planet than the Horizons norm. I'm sort of hoping it also includes the "ice planet" improvements.

It's not equally bad in the sense that it's an uneven / unprofessional experience to play. It's a disappointing one, yes, but that's not quite the same thing.

(EDIT: I'm sure there'll be bad PR either way. But the unprofessional experience leaves a bigger legacy of unhappy first-day purchasers, and negative early reviews. Exactly the sort of thing they want to avoid with their big reboot for the franchise.)

We've already had loads free content that adds a lot to the game.

If they want to call it turd, that's up to them. God knows why they play a game they think is turd. Now there are parts of ED that I do think are turd, like powerplay, multicrew telepresence, parts of the passenger missions feature. There are probably a few more that I can't remember too. And I don't defend, I just voice my own personal opinion on the matter or state the facts.
