I'm sure he's a grown up and doesn't need too much net nannying.

I suppose. But you asked @ECity "What the hell has that lot got to do with playing a game and enjoying the experience?". The answer still is literally nothing. The post was not so much about the game experience side but about the "I dont feel mislead" side. And the answer was simply bringing old info to a new comer on that regard.

Oh gods, i remember those! We were on holiday with my dad, i was a kid, and he started bidding. I said to him "Dad, aren't these a scam?" and he said "Yes, they are, and when i win, ill go and have a word with them"

By the way, my dad was a policeman.

There is a saying, a policeman is never off duty.

No idea what he said to them, but they weren't there the next day. Also a nice carriage clock appeared in my parents luggage that I don't recall them buying.....

Wish someone would have a word with CIG, mind you maybe they did and that's why we haven't seen Chris Roberts lately.

I can just imagine that man that sold my Dad a dodgy over-priced answering machine and a £10 bull-point pen saying "...and for the first ten people to buy..I mean pledge... I'll throw in a jet-pack".."

"you sir, jet pack for you, you madam jet pack for you, you sir..."

Fair enough.

And I maintain that CiG’s business practices, nepotism, and financial mismanagement, combined with Hollywood Accounting, is why there is so little game play, despite over $300 million of funding, and nearly nine-years of “development.” There are many games out there with just as much potential as Star Citizen, which have died aborning due to lack of funding.

If I had that a lot of discretionary income, and knew about Chris Robert’s and CIGs record, I’d rather direct it towards far more worthy endeavors.
Like what...for instance? Farming for a living and veterans charity donations I already do...I support more than enough games through kickstarter or early access...it's not like Star Citizen is the only project I've chucked some readies at to see where it ends up...Hellion, U-boat and Post Scriptum to name just a few of the recent-ish ones...I've also chucked more cash at IL2 BoS (Great Battles) than I have at Star Citizen and that seems set to continue unabated as they keep bringing out new stuff for me to spend money on... I do spend a great deal of time playing it though, more than anything else and have done so for many years.

As a point of interest...IL2 developers 777 software also sell Jpegs as a means to an end...fortunately, they actually produce something extremely polished and very playable at the end of it since all the Jpegs actually turn into flyable aircraft... unlike Ci¬G's monetised Jpegs ;)

You know - I've got three of those sitting completely unplayed in my Steam library, are they worth firing up? They might lack Sandwurmies though - and I've been led to believe via extensive marketing exposure that Sandwurmies are a core tenet of a truly fidelitous gaming experience.

IL2 is probably the most competently handled flight sim out there at the moment.

Note the wording, however. It's probably not the best sim; it's not the most intricate or expansive; it's not the most fully-featured. But it works, it does exactly what it sets out to do, and it does so exceedingly well with a minimum of fuss.

At the risk of a minor derailment, I'm very taken by IL2 (Cliffs of Dover) and DCS.

I enjoy IL2 more - it is a game that runs closer to my 'brain speed' (or lack thereof) - and it is very rewarding to see bullets hitting and debris like chaff filling the air. Less so I'll admit when my screen takes a hit and I can see sweet-'not very much'.

What is 'nice' is that my landings seem erm... consistent.... across both games. Imagine if you will a kangaroo on a pogo stick........... ...it's not pretty... and often not very effective either....

Deffo. You've nothing to lose! Just accept that the early flights may be a 'bit sub optimal'.

Well, I can only speak personally, but Star Citizen was supposed to be the game I played while I waited for Elite: Dangerous to mature to the point where Odyssey is going to be in 2021. I normally budget about $20 a month for MMOs, either for subscription fees, or cosmetics. Needless to say, I spent that money elsewhere instead. This is where the money I would've spent on Star Citizen, had Chris Roberts kept the promises he made back in 2012, went:
  • Elite: Dangerous Alpha access, which gave me my LEP
  • ED cosmetics
  • ED second account
  • ED second account Horizons access
  • ED second account cosmetics
  • HTC Vive headset ‡
  • Thrustmaster Warthog ‡
  • Cockpit Sim chair to mount said Warthog to ‡
  • No Man's Sky ⊹
  • Space Engineers ⊹
  • Space Odyssey
  • The entire collection of Schlock Mercenary hardcover books to date ∴
  • Empyrion: Galactic Survival
  • Surviving Mars
  • Fallout 4 VR
  • Subnautica
  • XCOM 2
___
‡ Would've bought these three eventually, but not spending money on Star Citizen meant I could afford them much earlier
⊹ Games directly bought with my Star Citizen refund
∴ Also would've bought these eventually

Got plenty of FDev accounts...4 at last count, 2 on Xbox and 2 on PC all with cosmetics etc. Hardware I've got aplenty too ;)

"By drastically reducing thruster efficiency in atmosphere, you’ll see a dramatic difference between flying and fighting around planetary bodies with atmosphere compared to battles in space. Since the aerodynamic forces are stronger in Alpha 3.10, flight is much less defined by a ship’s thrusters and more by its aerodynamics. This will really push the difference between space and atmospheric flight and add more depth and variety to Star Citizen."

Calling it now. CiG are going to be selling conventional atmosphere airframes shortly, the USP being they're better in atmospheres.

  • Subnautica

I'm oddly sure that I'll love Subnautica, and yet I've not got it yet. For me it's like having an 'ace in the hole'. I'll play that card when I really need to. It's oddly like having a spare comfort blanket - onto which list I'll add The Long Dark.

As an aside - Fire Watch is good. Short and with (?zero) replayability - but it's one of the few games where I'm still not entirely sure what was really going on. I liked that aspect to it.
