Please Center/Fix the Fer De Lance

.... its not a pleasure yaght... the dolphin is a pleasure yaht. the orca is a pleasure yacht. the baluga liner is a pleasure yaht. the cutter and clipper can be be called a pleasure yaht. the FDL is literally purpose built for combat. its focus of utilities, weapons, speed and maneuverability in exchange for lack of internals and jump range shouldve made it clear already of what its designed for.
In case you need more confirmation of this, here's the direct description from the game itself...

The Fer-de-Lance is a heavy combat ship manufactured by Zorgon Peterson. With four medium and one huge hardpoint, the ship is a veritable powerhouse, able to mount a challenge even to the Anaconda and Federal Corvette. If the vessel has a drawback it is that it is highly speciailised - consumers are advised that the Fer-de-Lance Is unsuited to activities other than combat.
— In-Game Description

It literally starts off emphasizing its a heavy combat ship. even emphasizing that its purpouse built soley for it alone. so lets get this irrelavant discussion to the current topic straight right now.... It is not a pleasure yaht. Please dont derail the main topic and keep it to the main poste.

That's a retcon then... In Elite (1984) it was a large yacht, converted for bounty hunting work.
I don't trust the retcons in ED... they are liable to be changed as whoever's currently in charge deems fit.

Another "I want every ship the same view" post...

FDL is fine, as is the Hauler... As is every other ship that has a marginally different 'view' from the others, don't like it, don't buy it :)

As mentioned earlier, in VR the cockpit view is fine, but that can be said for all of the ships really - in VR the game shines 😈

Have owned ED for ages but would only play it on/off for small spurts here and there until a few weeks back when I reinstalled and now I'm hooked. I got back during the tritium stuff so it was easy for me to grind a bunch of cash and I bought me an FDL. If I'm being honest, I really dig the off center seating position. I feel like it adds a unique character to the ship. I don't have a crazy number of ships but it definitely has my favorite layout.

Actually the in-game description in the wiki (fighter) isn't the same as the one in the shipyard, the shipyard describes it as luxurious executive and bounty hunter ship, I think it's retconned slightly but not much from the luxury boat for bounty work that Siobhan mentions :

The Fer-de-Lance is another classic design that has now been in production for two centuries. The ship became famous for its popularity with top business executives and wealthy bounty hunters, being a fast, well armed vessel, with luxurious accommodation and high quality components fitted as standard. Early models were built by Zorgon Peterson, but more recently, limited numbers have been upgraded by Saud Kruger in a rare collaboration, resulting in even more lavish creations, without spoiling the original design and specification requirements.

I've seen numerous threads about the FDL being off centre, but I don't feel it is an issue, it strikes me that the pilots seat is ~3m off centre, which is about the same a the pilots seat in a python or a cobra, which is caused by the side by side arrangement in those ships.

While reading this thread, I took a liking to this post:
sometimes a game company shouldnt be thinking about trying to make money for every single improvement to a game and just needs to do it because its whats best for the game and for the players playing it. small things like this can make the biggest impact. You're probly right in that its never going to happen. but I'm going to keep trying on this anyways and keep bugging them till they do. And if enough of us bug them about it, they just might. As the old saying goes, "the squeaky wheel gets greased"

Very wise words, and a great quote... I wonder if they are also applicable to VR for Odessy?

I purchased my FdL specifically as a pleasure yacht for touring and cruising around the bubble. A fitting ship for a billionaire merchant. Offset cockpits are common in all types of ships and aircraft. My only grip with the cockpit is it could use an update to get rid of the heavy framing, make it more of a bubble type.

Variety is good. Making all ships the same bad.

Lol - says the one trying to tell FdL pilots that they should be fighting in a conda / krait cockpit

FdL is fine - variety is good.
dont take my words out of context please. i never told anyone to fight in a conda or any other ship instead. i simply suggested to try them out and see if they really prefer a off-center cockpit over a centered one once they tried it and give an opinion. i know its a reddit habbit or just an online habbit in general for people to casually start crap. but please keep things respectful here and lay off any toxic back-hand comments here. we dont need this

this isnt the game of 1984... please stop trying to argue moot points that hold zero relevancy and keep to the main topic at hand.

would you really prefer this over a perfectly centered cockipit view like in the anaconda or the krait? my respect to you if you do as everyone has their preferances admittedly. im however definitely not the only one with this issue with the FDL. I'm sure you would like a centered view or at least not mind it and adapt to it much easier.
I'd actually be fine with the off center cockpits if they fixed the issues with parallax. What bugs me about sitting off center is that every movement of the ship is still centered on my head even though my head is not the center point of the ship. This is actually also true in the anaconda to a lesser extent, in that case the cockpit is above what should be the center of rotation in a roll, yet the ship still rolls neatly around my head. However, there are two reasons I doubt that this will ever be changed. First, changing something like this would be a heck of a lot of work. Second, they might have actually implemented movement centered on player's face purposefully; in order to reduce motion sickness in VR.

Wait. Are you saying the ship rolls around your head rather than the centre of the ship?

It was a bit strange when I started to pilot the FDL but I grew to like it. It’s not even that off center, and when I come to think about it, reminds me a bit of piloting a Thunderbolt from my MechWarrior days. Kind of awkward and then it just felt it’s maybe a few degrees off. Not exactly noticeable.
