Please Center/Fix the Fer De Lance

Having tested in VR, it works correctly and the same as 2d, the pilots seat in the ship and the HUD are aiming at the central rotation point of the ship off into the horizon (or infinity. Or the skybox). In effect you are looking slightly inward at a point on the horizon, the same point where if you were sitting in the middle you'd be looking at. I can show it in VR.

I started the recording in the seat, put the mouse widget on. Moved the ship so it was aiming exactly at a star, the mouse widget on the star. The mouse widget is fakery, but it works to mark a star and see if we roll exactly on that axis. Flight assist off, started a slow roll. The ship from the seated position rolls perfectly on that dot, as in 2d. Stand up, move left to the centre of the ship (the video jumps as I pressed the recenter view button just so I could move left without falling out my window :D ) and you can see it's perfectly aligned with the roll, the dot on the star. Moving far left and far right without recentering and you can see the ship is rolling the way you think you should be seeing, ie the other side of the cockpit moving much more than the centre, but you aren't taking in to account the hud and seat are pointing correctly at the actual point on the skybox where the ship is pointing and rotating, marked by the mouse widget. You're thinking the hud and cockpit should be pointing parallel to it I think. Also - the ship is HUGE in length, and the seat is only like 2 feet offset from the centre. Your image with the red and green circles you're expecting to see the rotation at the green circle which is just under the window, but the ship goes so far out in front! In fact, the nose is out pointing where your red circle is, the cockpit up really high above the long nose that slopes down out of sight. It's correct.

In VR it really is clear the ship IS rotating around it's centre axis. Because where I'm looking (in VR) is irrelevant to what the ship is doing. In 2d it doesn't seem that way, but it genuinely is.

I don't have youtube to upload, here's the video: Source: https://imgur.com/99XERkv
Interesting so in VR it's not centered on the pilot's face but rather where their face would be if they were sitting in the chair... That's still not the center of mass of the ship however. But I've said my pice.

That's a retcon then... In Elite (1984) it was a large yacht, converted for bounty hunting work.

seems elite 1984 lore is pretty much obsolete.

also the mamba should be aprox half the size of the fdl, similar to a viper. it was a single seat racer, while the fdl had 16 crew. that's 3 fireflies worth of people. with casino. and hookers.

(i wasn't actually an elite 84 fan, but really expected the mamba to be a small ship 😢)

it really is maddening

i suggest you work on that little obsessive disorder or choose one of the other nearly 40 ships the game offers, instead of pulling this tantrum (in the name of 'teh community' no less) to fix what isn't broken.

pro tip: actually many ships can benefit from assymetric hardpoint loadout. getting used to shoot a bit 'sideways' is a very useful skill.

that's just life. i don't like the asp's farting sound either, i wouldn't touch any of those ridiculously gawd imperial ships with a stick (except the imperial eagle and possibly the courier on a good day), and don't get me even started on saud kruger. the fdl, on the other hand, is for me.

not for you!
fdl denied! :p

Basically the ships all rotate around the centre point. It's just not obvious when you go a foot or two left or right.

You didnt watch the video, did you?

When I stand in the MIDDLE of the cockpit - not the seat - the ship rolls centred. Move left or right and it still rolls in the centre of the ship, you can see it as you move but its deceptive as its so far away. The point in the distance that it is rotating around stays the same, no matter where you view it from.

You are for some reason expecting the ship to roll centred on a point 6 feet outside the cockpit window.

Eh, all that talk about seat being off center makes me want to fly my FDL.
If only I wouldn't be at Sag*...

Fun fact, I once turned FDL into explorer vessel. Actually went for an exploration trip but horrible range made me review the idea. With FC available whole project once again turns viable. Does anyone have spare 6B* to help poor CMDR?

* - FC, module outfitting and some fuel, inb4 statements FC is just 5B

I did watch the Video, and it doesn't show what you seem to think it does, but that's fine. I can't teach a mouse to fly. You are correct that the point in the distance it is rotation around stays the same, that's not the issue it's that this point is not in the correct location. I'm expecting ships to roll around their center of mass, they do not. It's not that hard a concept.

I disagree with the entire op.

Fer de Lance is a horrible looking boring ship, inside and out, and the only remotely interesting thing is that it's off centre.

I've always been curious why so many people seem to have this obsession with symmetry, asymmetric things are so much more interesting

Im in VR and I am not a fan of the assymetric layouts of ex Cobra and Python so Ive stayed away from the FDL. But this thread made me buy it to check it out and I think the cockpit is AWESOME. Just enough assymetry to keep it interesting and I love how "high Up" the cockpit feels. New FDL fan here!!!

This weeks necro is sponsored by Sweet Sue's Chicken in a Can, fully cooked so you can just eat it straight out of the can like an animal.

I agree with the OP.
Not because I don't like variety, but the hud elements are sometimes unreadable in the FdL.
I find it quite difficult to use the cargo scoop in this vessel due to the HUD indicator appearing to be much smaller than most.

Other than that I would rip out the dash and change it to matt black !
