ANNOUNCEMENT New Lead Community Manager - Arthur Tolmie

Hi Arthur!

I already said hello, but I'm really happy that you joined the team and you seem to blend in easily :p

I'm very sorry to be the one asking this but: would you be able to give us an approximative date for the next news about Odyssey please?
The previous communication on June the 3rd told us "From now on", and nothing has been seen/heard yet.
With the holidays, I'm sure it would be difficult for Frontier to chat & share about Odyssey at the moment... but the "From now on" confused a lot of players.

There is also a mail I sent to the team on May 20, with a bump on June 26, that never received any reply.
The mail has "Remlok Industries" in it.

Thanks for your time! :)

god I just had flashbacks to my student days when we used to get butterscotch angel delight and mix it up with lidl's knock-off version of bailey's

it was an experience

The Duchess Le Chardon (my IRL wife) used some of that lidl's stuff in Christmas confectionary nibbly things, damned fine, I'm sure she'll love the angel delight idea.

You will - I am an ED fan I genuinely love the game the universe and the community. I want to spend time with you all and find a way that gives people confidence that we are listening. I am just working out a way to do that effeciently. But as they say, the proof is in the pudding. So stand by for...er...pudding :)

Greetings Commanders!

I am very excited to announce that I have joined the team at Frontier as Lead Community Manager covering Elite Dangerous and more!

You will most likely get to meet me soon on one of the streams with Stephen, Bruce or Tim, but I thought I would tell you a little about me first!

I have been playing Elite Dangerous pretty much since its launch on XBOX ONE. I focus mainly on exploration and combat, though I tend to let the federal ships do most of the work before sweeping in at the last moment for some easy bounties!

I could not be more excited to join this wonderful team and community at this time, just as Fleet Carriers went live and Odyssey was announced – I, like many of you, have been waiting for this news for a very long time!

Outside of Elite Dangerous, I am a huge gamer and sci-fi fan. I can often be found with my head in a book (I am currently working my way through the Horus Heresy novels), or in a game with friends online. I play a fair bit of Fallout 76 or Sea of Thieves, but one of my all-time favourites is XCOM 2.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will do my best to respond!

See you in the stars, Commanders!

CMDR Tolmie
Just curious....did they tell you where Raxalla is after joining?

These are strange times at the moment for everyone - but I / we really do understand your and the community's frustrations. We are working towards fixing them, it won't be overnight, but it is one of my goals. I know this community is passionate and importantly honest. My intention is we will be the same with you, I can only ask you remain as dedicated at keeping us on track as you already are :)
Strange times indeed. The only thing I can suggest is to keep engaging the community. If you can’t talk about upcoming developments, maybe talk about aspects of your job and relationship with Fdev, clear up misconceptions and squash rumors, spotlight things in the community you think are interesting, Elite’s development history, lessons learned, etc. And if you find yourself having to choose between saying “a patch is coming next week but the details aren’t settled yet” or saying nothing, try to go with the first one. ;)

I'd like to agree, but it seems to be the usual type post, warm fuzzy feelings about how great we are and promises of jam to come (possibly jam pudding).

It may happen, in fact I'm sure it will as Frontier have a DLC to sell 'soonish', but it doesn't change the fact that CMs are employed by Frontier, not by the community.

And as always, along with that wage packet comes 'Guidance and Manacles'

I feel that the only way to change the saline percentage in the forum packet is for a CM to address the concerns of 'many' of the threads, salt overdose comes as much from fear of the unknown as it does from being ignored, I'm not asking you to give away sensitive information but clarify that the issue being discussed is being/has been/won't be addressed, and explain (not in great detail) why some decisions were made... I don't mean some poppycock like
"we want commanders to come back to the bubble to sell data... because it's part of the game" (and then immediately add UC to the carriers)
I mean like

"Sorry commanders but buffs and nerfs to the economy will continue for a while yet as a full Economy re-write will be a future work"
and
"We feel like you, that the Panther Clipper definitely has a place in the ED galaxy just as do other ships from earlier eras (the Boa and Lion...) but prior to that we need to concentrate work on the 'Next era' that will pave the way for many more additions and features to be added seamlessly... sometimes you have to dig up the road and do it again"

I can't see either of the two examples being dangerous to the financial well being of Frontier Developments, so why not tell us stuff to stop that salt train.

But as with others that went before (I'm not calling anyone Todd Howard here)... but yeah, puddings and all that!

Yours sincerely Mr I. B. Downright-Cynical.
