Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Interesting that CR is much less visible on the website these days as well... you need to dig around for a while to find a mention. Did someone miss a milestone?

On Chris' wikipedia page under the Star Citizen entry.

Chris Roberts had stated that if at least $23 million could be raised over the course of the crowdfunding campaign, no outside investors' or developers' funding would be required.

Backers love to talk about increased scope, but its always worth rememering that CR was promising the BDSSE for just a few million. Then he promised it again for 6 or so million. Then he promised it again for 23 million. And again at 65 million.

It never mattered how much funding they got, it was always pitched as going to be the BDSSE. By this point, based on CIG's/CR's comments over the years, it should already be the BBVDBOTBDSSEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Overall, its things like this that show CR had absoloute zero concept of how much money he needed to make a decent game and he still doesn't know how much more he needs to get SC into a releasable state.

Once again, if this was any other project (except those led by charismatics/faith projects) investors (and backers) would be asking hard questions.

But as usual, CIG get a pass.

I've kinda got out of the habit of playing SC over these last few weeks...like everyone else, I seem to be mightily bored with the 3.9 clusterfarce, the bugs and account issues as well as crappy server performance overall.

I can't see any road to great improvement when the much vaunted 3.10 appears...but I'll no doubt give it a go anyway. Like a few...I've even taken to firing up Elite occasionally amidst hundreds of hours in IL2 and associated bits of that from Flying Circus to tank battles.

Maybe there should be a forum section in general titled 'Games you're playing instead of Star Citizen?'

I've spent years not playing SC, I'm an expert on this topic! 😄

But the thing that keeps calling me at the mo is VTOL in VR. I'm still too tight to buy it on 30% sale, but this guy's vids keep tempting me to grab it. (Virtual cockpit, narrative missions, lots of flying close to things to dump missile tracking and the like :))

(I can't remember if you have VR or not? If so kick around the 'Many Games That Are Not Elite' thread in my sig ;))

I played ARMA 3 with Drewski way back...he ran a good server.

CIG posted some fluff today describing the most worn armor, etc. That's fine. But they have the nerve to start the article out this way:
As part of our commitment to open and transparent development, we’ll be regularly sharing these infographics with you...

Ah, infographics about what people have spent the most money on. Yes, that's really open and transparent development.

Perhaps next they can do a breakdown of how many ships of different types they have sold over the years. Would love to see how many whale chariots have been sold.

Not despondent..not any more than usual anyway...there's just more engaging stuff to play than Star Citizen for me at the minute. As for the missus...I'm in the dog house again for eating 'her' Topic bar that was lying in the fridge all dejected. Like most women, she has no understanding of the..'If it's in the fridge, it's public property' rule we guys all live by. Suggesting she should have written her name on it didn't do me any favours of course...

It was a Topic fer goodness sake..not like I ate a whole box of Maltesers she got for mothers day or anything...and no...I wouldn't dare... in case you're wondering

I find it more interesting from other PoV - those numbers all seem to roughly add up to 40 - 50k. Supposing you are likely to purchase something (if only backpack or armour to carry more), it tells that there were 40 - 50k PCs in that time period, maybe 60k if we account for overhead.

That is the best case, of course. Some people report multiple character resets, which reset everything including clothing. So I wouldn't bet on more than 20k unique players per 50 days - which doesn't seem that much.

I am mostly playing light games, since I am on laptop on vacation - WoT, Super Animal Royale, Dead Cells, KanColle.
You should really consider R* Bully 2 Scholarship edition which you can get on Steam. One of the best sandbox and light RPG games R* has made to date. It's a delightful school house romp through the eyes of a teen boy (Jimmy) who is from a dysfunctional family. As Jimmy, you find yourself immediately abandoned at the gates of Bullsworth Academy at the start of his junior year. Unceremoniously dumped by a gold digging mother and rich step father who's old enough to be your grandfather. And very quickly, learn as Jimmy how to walk a fine line (or not) navigating the hazardous power cliques run by several student group tropes right out of the 80's Breakfast Club. These (in order of progressing fighting ability/increasing physical toughness) are the Bullies, Nerds, Preppies, Jocks, Greasers and finally Townies (who consist of mostly school dropouts or young adult/blue collar hood toughs that typically dislike everything to do with Bullsworth)

You progress through the game doing a diverse range of sandbox, main and side quests for these school cliques, Bullsworth school faculty/staff and town residents. Progressing through each clique's faction storyline unlocks new map areas like the Sanitarium and Carnival (where you'll ultimately go on dates or do sandbox activities like riding the rides). Getting to know and earning clique respect by defeating the respective faction leaders in boss fights either advance/or hurt Jimmy's progression in the story e.g. Preppies are best at boxing. So entering and beating the Preppies & their champion in a side activity boxing match in the town, rewards Jimmy with the Preppies luxury beach front manor. Which doubles as a safe house saving point (where Jimmy can also hide from the cops if busted) when he's too far to return to the school dorm before curfew.

Great thing about Bully 2 is it thrusts you directly into the non stop RP action of Jimmy's miserable life the instant he's dumped at the school's front gate. You get an immediate introduction to the Bullies clique who teach Jimmy very early on how to defend himself (or run from) fights. Discover the variety of sandbox and regular quest activities for Jimmy to do before having to retire to his dorm room at curfew. Besides the main storyline and faction quests, Jimmy can defend (or not) the regular non clique kids and Nerd faction kids from the Bullies, antagonize/befriend clique member kids, actively participate in classes (or do truancy), socialize with ordinary and clique students (like being able to romance/kiss both girls and boys which rewards Jimmy with charisma for speech gate checks), exploring the school/school grounds for loot, explore the town neighborhoods (one section which has a functional Carnival), doing extra curricular after school activities like performing at the school end of year musical, pranking on Halloween, wrestling at the gym, earning money from town events like bike races, shoveling snow during winter, delivering papers, cutting the lawns for town residents, doing NPC locals favors etc. And the money Jimmy earns from these activities lets him buy things like bikes, prank/fighting equipment (like eggs, stink bombs etc) to school uniforms, haircuts, and other regular clothing at various neighborhood stores after school hours.

Bully 2 Scholarship edition has got to be one of the best RP experiences R* has created to date. It's an extremely humorous take on all the angst of high school teenage years from the framework of a private boarding school. Groom Jimmy to become the best A student in the school. Or make him the rebel teen/career F student. Who aspires to be a slacker delinquent and potential Townie dropout while running the daily risk of being caught by Prefects/teachers/cops for truancy. :giggle:

I have been playing X4 Foundations as my main space game currently. It is a very different game from SC. 565 Hours in and I have just finished the main quest line. I cannot get over the sense of scale it creates with the environment, ships, space stations etc. Has some great ideas that could work well in other games. AI is a bit buggy but not as bad as that in SC. None of the NPC's seem to stand on the tables etc.

I am incredulous.

2 hours of cutscenes. And that is all they have to speak for the millions of dollars invested thrownaway into this game?

2 hours of cutscenes. And zero playable game?

You don't understand cut-scene development. It takes 100s millions to pump into cutscene development?

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
