Notice GalNet changes

I’m missing something here... There’s nothing new that’s been said. It was just a reiteration of what the situation’s been for ages.

Guess I just hoped too much. Again.

You are missing something yeah.

They originally said, they were only going to make GalNet have actual in game related things in it.
They said before, that they weren't currently doing GalNet, as they needed the writers for the odyssey stuff.

This is the first time they've specifically said that GalNet wasn't even being considered for coming back in any form.

This is also true, IIRC.

You and me both. Had I known this a week ago, I doubt I would have spent real money on Arx and an Alt. It's a mistake I'll not make again.

I should have known better...
I haven't spent any real money since ARX arrived. Carriers moved ARX and player numbers. Didn't Dav Stott say that they had ran the numbers? Well, we've been run....

Pretty sure it was directly confirmed at the time that that Galnet article was simply following what had been set out i.e. it was just related to an in-game happening, specifically the introduction of a new rare good.
In which case Stephen spoke out of turn. If Frontier WILL still be releasing Galnet articles related to in-game happenings like the introduction of a new rare good (although, unbelievably, not the launch of fleet carriers 🤦‍♂️) then Galnet does still have a pulse (flippin' sickly tho' it may be). So which is it @Stephen Benedetti? Was that June Galnet article just a leftover you folks forgot to put out earlier or is Galnet still alive?

CG's, I was also not a fan of - BUT, only because they were literally just "hey everyone grind this one thing for a while yeah? cool!"

There were things closer to what I expected CG's to be a while ago - the war for Lugh for instance.

The reason that was decent, was because they created a specific scenario for it - and this was before scenarios even existed- they made a special USS which had specific ships in it, and stuff you could do to support either side.

This is why II's looked like a move in the right direction, they started out by making something special for the II.

Then one of the others just seemed to be a CG again... then just stopped doing them.

It seems like they have these ideas, then realise they actually have to get people to put time and effort into making the things, then give up. Sometimes they seem worse than me with starting and not following through on projects, jeez, maybe I -could- get a job in that industry.

Nothing’s changed since last week bud. What was said isn’t new, it’s the same thing that’s been said for months.

To reiterate:

  • no plans to bring back fluff
  • Galnet only covering in-game things that people can get involved in
  • In general, nothing in that category is going on, so no related Galnet articles as a result
  • Introducing a new rare good was actually in in the relevant category so got a Galnet article

It’s still all as per what was said earlier in the year, and many times since.

The door of hope was open before, because Frontier said Galnet & CGs were "on hold" as developers focused on fleet carriers and Odyssey. This latest announcement basically says, "There is no plans to bring back Galnet & CGs, EVER." Door slammed shut, hope shot through the heart, dead.
Let's see what Odyssey has to offer. Frontier can reconsider, so many things can change till this time.

Does writing a short story burdens them or costs? They put more effort into social media than inserting a weekly three to five sentences text written by someone from crative dept while sitting on the toilet. Fans see something is going on in this world, the game is alive, fluff gives space for speculation and comments, at least something is going on. Win-win situation. It's scandalous what they did to Galnet and how they ceased in-game communication. It doesn't look professional and more like abandoned early-access product.

It was a few weeks ago. He didn't want to make a big fuss, which I respected, but I think is a shame. Because he was involved in lots of the parts that make this game great, and a lot I was involved in.
The Riddles, the Treasure Hunts, Player submitted Galnet articles, Galnet, CGs, the Colonia Expanse initiative, Ed's 38... The list goes on.

He has another job, but hasn't revealed where it is yet. He did leave a message for us, which I'll make my video of public now.

So if there are no more CGs or IIs, no lore from FD, what onward force is there? As far as story is concerned ED has none and from that snippet FD have confirmed it.

Makes me wonder more about what EDO will take away rather than bring.

This is even a harder pill to swallow in the light of Drew Wagar's recent Lore Tour. The removal of Galnet is the abandonment of all future Lore, the abandonment of all PowerPlay characters, the abandonment of one of the core things that sets this game apart from others. The game may not be dead, but it feels a lot less "alive" now.

It’s not the first time this has come up.

I’m just a bit thrown I guess because I thought it had all been cleared up in the past.

Anyway, covered it in the reply to @Old Duck :

(Probably should clarify that the second bullet is refering specifically to FD lead stuff, not the wider set of stuff organised by the playerbase itself such as Buckyball Racing etc.)

Makes you wonder what the Codex, Galnet Audio etc were for, all wasted.

My guess is the BGS is the 'story' now, and to a lesser extent Powerplay (i.e. procedural in nature and no other input).

So Stephen spoke out of turn (or at least what he said lacked qualification - i.e. "that kind of Galnet ... is not in our roadplan")?
