ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers Update - Patch 3

You're not going to find something nobody else has because you were the first one to scan a system across the galaxy. If something has been hidden in the game, it's almost surely very close to the bubble. For all other exploration ...it literally doesn't matter where you do it, so there's no need to "fix" things to allow people to do it super far away.
In spite of all the trouble the FC update did, I still found 17 never before discovered planetary bodies within 400 LY of civilization so the idea that you have to get 1000's of LY from the bubble to find anything new is garbage. You just have to be thorough in your search.
I tend to do the pick a random end 500 LY away from a place I can sell the data.
Set most economical and not visited and alternate which of my ships jumps first so they get an equal chance at a NEW DISCOVERY.
When I get to my "end", I turn around and go back and sell the data.
This eventually creates an "explored tube" and the route between the ends starts to get longer and longer ballooning out to a ball.
Works best if the place to sell the data is at the edge of the bubble.

Do they not have a beta build process at all? Or do they just test changes on live?

after 5+ years of following this developer it is my assumption that they do barely no testing. they may have test suites for the most trivial cases but even that can't have signifficant coverage because a lot of those get through with every update. they may check stuff runs after compiling, but that isn't proper testing.

also, their betas are more about feedback gathering than testing, they don't follow any serious report-fix-retest cycle and releases never are the direct result of beta or beta+patches but always include last minute changes or even addde/modified functionality, defeating any quality assurance value that the beta effort might have had. it's more of a pr gimmick or a form of coarse 'smoke test' (and if you need such it means you have little confidence in the stability of your system, meaning you haven't tested squat).

Additionally, how can anyone be expected to handle the upkeep of a Fleet Carrier, let alone any optional services, when the cost far outstrips any method of credit-earning in the game? If you're going to completely wreck mining, the only viable way to earn enough credits for upkeep, at least add a way for the carriers to break even at a minimum.

That's rubbish and you know it, you're being a drama queen. If you cant easily earn 5m to 30m credits a week without spamming LTD mining, you really do need to go play Star Citizen full time.

So let me see if I got this correct. I bought a carrier for 5 billion. I've been planning this long range trip where I load up several of my ships on my carrier and head out into the black for an extended period. But now when I get way out in the black I won't be able to find the fuel to get home? Is that about right?

I made a test run into a 2x Tritium Hotspot. A good one, 100% embedded.

  • lots of Surface Deposits
  • lots of SubSurface Deposits
  • only very few Strip Mining opportunities (similar to 2x LTD Hotspot, although not as bad)
  • -> apart from the visible lack of standard Asteroids for Mining Lasers to work on, seems okay
  • (core mining obviously broken, Abrasion Laser fails to work on Asteroid Fragment Surface Deposits after cracking it)

This is what got for 100 Limpets :

What system?

that was just bad poetry, now to logic, i'll contest that statement: there is no continuity between pg and open for ships and that doesn't seem to raise any concern.

I'm speaking of things like following low wakes or wing beacons. While they aren't guaranteed to work in PG and Open, they are supposed to, and dropping into an instance that can only exist for one's own CMDR would be a significant departure.

Well i’m so glad i saw the big notification from fdev telling us they were releasing a patch on a very specific date otherwise i wouldn’t have been able to react in time and sell all my diamonds at the highest price and fill up my carrier with 10000 tons of tritium buying at 4k a ton. Phew! ;)

Wonder what the next gold rush will be.

Dear Frontier, I just made 1 billion credits in 10 minutes because of this dumb AMAZING "You are going to refuel your ship, like it or not!" snap-back UI bug.

Whatever you do, please do NOT fix this exploit! These credits are amazing! #DoNotNerf #FeatureNotBug #BetterThanMining

i don't get the "can only exist for one's instance" thing. this was an argument during the speculation before carriers came out but i see no relevance in the current scenario. carriers wouldn't need any instancing restriction different from ships. a player can even have multiple actors (mothership/slf/srv) active, they all vanish if he logs out. that's just religion, all modes are equal.

again, carriers are persistent so player's can use other's carriers while they're offline to dock, buy and sell. if this is the significant departure you are referring to then i fully agree, but this by design, nothing to do with instancing.

i might be reading too much into this.

nope, you will be able to grind for the fuel to go anywhere you want. i have no idea where tritium spawns but there surely must be a source you can reach from your carrier with a ship?

What the hell have you done to the Abrasiion Blaster? It did not work when I was draining a VO Rock. And the percentages found in rocks is just terrible and low.

Update: So I reset back to main menu. Went back in found a rock with 2 Tritium Surface to use the Abrasion Blaster on and it worked. So after this I found a rock in a Tritium HS that contained CORE LTD So broke it and the Abrasion Blaster worked on the rocks on the inside of the cores when loosened. So reset to main if your Abrasion Blaster seems goosed.

You really know how to upset the player base!
Well I can't get the Abrasion Blaster to work..... period. I'm gonna put this pile of :poop: back on the shelf until Frontier get this Tritium Nerf and Abrasion Blaster balls-up sorted:mad:

+1 same here very frustrating
I have found the damned abrasion blaster fails to work no matter what you have or have not done... period. Relogging to main menu does nothing but get more pirates on your tail AND does NOT fix the busted blaster!!!!

FC-owner miners in particular who have stored up a few thousand Low Temperature Diamonds in their holds hoping to sell them later at the usual rates. Now I'm stuck with over 4000 of them that I've bought from other players at 1,400,553 per, putting me at an enormous loss since I'd invested almost all my remaining credits. I've talked with others in the same situation.

While I'm sympathetic, and have problems with how this entire thing was handled across the board - there's a reason why what you (and others) were doing is called market speculation, and not guaranteed profit.

While it's not especially helpful now, this should be approached like "don't fly without rebuy", i.e., don't risk credits you can't afford to lose.

Frontier broke the AB?

All carrier service fees should be suspended until this game is fixed. It isn't right that carriers are draining players' accounts when many can't even play the game.

All carriers should be removed again and players refunded. Sorted. FD should grow some spine and make a working game with long-term appeal instead of throwing short-term effect shinies at players for nothing but cynical short-term profit reasons.

They are not setting themselves up well for Odyssey.
