You Do Realize ,,,

I'm glad to see all the responses to this thread -
Even tho some are off-kilter or plainly superfluous -
The concept of this thread wasn't to be sarcastic but to show that original ideas are not in vogue in most (not all) games -
There are so many unused aspects of this genre that would enhance player involvement and novelty that these games ignore -
Sure, we will eventually get actual Thargoid entities to interact with -
What about a lost colony of Guardians? -
Or the discovery of other races of either a more advanced or comparatively more primitive level? (Earth of 2020 compared to the E-D timeline).
The point being, that so many avenues of gameplay are not utilized or even considered a viable addition.

Fair enough, but the OP was a poor example, especially considering Elite at least passingly tries to be plausibly realistic where it viably can be, obviously with FTL communication and travel not withstanding, as per Frontier's own admission.

Mostly Harmless was 'borrowed' from Hitch Hikers guide to Galaxy.

Planet Coaster borrows from Coaster Tycoon
Planet Zoo from Zoo Tycoon.

Can the market handle something truly original?

I mean a lot of other sci-fi uses things like deuterium. Not everyone is lazy, they just like to use things that might be plausible

Hopefully Elite also borrows NMS idea of procedural abandoned freighters/stations for players to explore.
"Not sure if serious..." as these sort of things were talked about in some detail back during the kickstarter. I bought in a little bit later when the game released on Steam, but I bothered doing my homework and saw the videos from Frontier.

And to be fair, I don't actually know what all is in NMS, nor do I really care, to be honest. It might be a fine game by now and all that, but it isn't on my radar. There is only so much time in a day, never mind that it's been years.
