Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Released games can never compete with the dreams of unreleased games.

True again, but the visuals at least are real enough to gawp over. I just wonder how much network traffic the damage model generates (or can be compressed down into) and if CiG will have to row back further. From playing Warframe and a Railjack on fire its fun having chaos around you.

That last post of mine went well went down well... Apologies to the mods 🥵

Aww man I dont know. Last time I went shopping with the wife she got "lost" in a dress frenzy leaving me free to wander around the store on my own. I ended up checking the video game magazines and would you believe it...GameStar is still reporting on it. "Interesting" I thought....."lets see what these guys got on news that I dont know". It was embarassing. GameStar is shilling so hard for CIG but maybe thats what they do in general these days. I think I stopped my last GameStar purchase 10 years ago. They simply print cool looking pictures, point out some of the "complicated issues" and gloss over the obvious elephant in the room droning on and on about "the potential" of the project. It was 2 pages on SC and IMO it was a simple shill piece because they refused to name any of the ugly facts or provide numbers that are actually true. I was too much reminded of the fact that some of the employees are high tier SC backers who also work on reporting the project. And the article sure sounded like it.

So looking at the fluff while ignoring the problems.....this happens on the professional level too and if too many people do it accountability goes out the window (CRs wet dream I m sure)

I think I read back in the real 'Early Days' that Game Star bought some exclusive access back in the day (tried to find evidence but failed so far). If that's accurate, it adds more reasons to why they don't want to be too critical. I once saw a video where the only really critical thing they said was along the lines of "now let's see if they can deliver, not only promise".

I can only remember a video or 2 early on...when Gamestar interviewed Chris Roberts in an exclusive at a games conference. It was back in 2016 when the will it/won't it release saga of Sqn 42 all began.

First one I can recall was back at E3 in 2013...

Then again at Gamescom in 2016.

Didnt read that myself but from what they write its entirely possible. Could as well be that as a gaming magazine you cant be "too harsh" on games or possibly lose early access on coming titles. Thats a trend I observed for many years tho and the main reason why I stopped trusting what these outlets write. Back before the times of the internet they were pretty much the only source of info about upcoming titles but nowadays I find much of the relayed data inaccurate, outdated and too often biased or too careful.

Star Citizen articles are often opinion pieces and possibly biased. From the shill to the hit pieces even the articles are "extreme" for the followers. Its next to impossible to stay neutral or impartial in this topic.

Best bet for news is various forums today in combination with life streams. Which one isnt really important, the actual gameplay or content doesnt vary with SC haters and shills alike. One of these is purely theoretical, the other is the evidence based footage for it. I prefer certain SC streamers due to their "personal touch" but I consume pretty much the same content then people watching BoredGamer...or rather the lack thereof

I guess there's some kind of patriotic bias towards SC from this german magazine: biggest crowdfunded project ever using (even being the savior of) the national pride that is CryEngine.

I suspect Ci¬G cheated a bit on the ship mass thing. It seems very likely that it's the player avatar that adds mass to the ships....not only evidenced in that vid, but the reclaimer...a truly massive edifice of a ship, used to rise up on it's landing gear the second you stepped off the elevator. It rose up so much that it raised the elevator so far above the ground level you couldn't get back in it.

Here's me stuck outside mine...before I melted it for something not so broken.

That would also explain that video the guy watches the wind blow his ship away.

Wasn't it the 2016 interview where they actually asked him about a 1.0 release and CR quipped what do you mean 1.0? We have 3.0 coming out soon!

Again, you might be correct that "this is what it is today". I wouldnt know I stopped using magazines for information tapping some time ago. But isnt that a tad sad? And it seems to work too if these tabloids aint out of business yet.

If you go to PC Gamer or some such you see daily articles about this or that irrelevant in-development game which is just shuffled press statements plus some "I can't wait too see this!" padding. Gaming journalism, especially for minor titles, died ages ago. If it ever existed.

Not saying it is a good thing, just saying it ain't SC specific.

Honestly, it seems hard to do though. It's incredibly hard to keep on top of all those Steam releases. You'd need a team to cover some nieche genres. And this in a time where everyone expects everything to be free. The only way to stay afloat is probably to get paid for pieces like that.

It was another vid...another Gamestar one but at a different event during 2016, possibly Citizencon. It was after the announcement that Sqn 42 wasn't going to appear that particular year. They caught up with CR outside the venue and asked the question.

He's gone beyond such petty concerns as "particular year" or "release date." Chris Roberts is now a creature of pure energy and intelligence with no shape or form. No wonder he hasn't popped up on a video stream since last year! Those things are hard to light.

He doesnt need to appear "in" the video, he IS the video!
