Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Ceci n'est pas une pipe

Apropos of not much - did you know that Matisse also created a painting called Golconda?

It ocurred to me this morning that new players might not get the E D link there or perhaps think I was just having a stroke. So, F D decided to name one of the "Generation Ships" the Golconda and there was an "Interstellar Initiative" last year to provide aid to and resettle its inhabitants:

The story of the generation ships:

I wasn't aware of that part of ED lore though. Thanks. I hear people talking about Guardians and stuff and it's like they're talking in a different language or something.

I did meet a Thargoid though. Needless to say, it was a rebuy situation.

Did you try to shoot it? My few encounters have been disconcerting but hostilities never followed.

I can't remember if I tried to fight them now. It was very early on after I left the training wheels area and went off exploring. There was a big ship in trouble and I was figuring out a way to help it before Thargoids appeared. I probably just ran away like a giant coward.

Very nice gift from FD to top up my FC tanks to the brim.

I have found this amazing outpost, it is hading delivery missions out, each 120 or 180 cargo runs, many paying 10m each. I've stacked a bunch. Running them, I'm submitting to a few of the interdictions, killing those pilots, (reward, mission bonus, collecting mats), but evading many more. I reckon I could have easily made 150m in an hour if I just evaded all the interdictions.

Couple of questions for this threads FC expert @Codger if I may.

Could I make it to the bubble on one full tank of gas in the FC?

Is there a way of calling the FC to my current location? If so, can you point me to the way please?

If I install the repair service, I'm guessing that opens advanced maintenance, can I buy limpets from there or do I need to import them from a station?

Thanks for your help Codge.

From where? Colonia? No. You'll need approx 8000, depending on your FC's mass.
Best way to check is using this web site, it does all the fuel calcs for you and also shows you place where you can perhaps mine.

Yes, you can access carrier management from your right panel.

Yes, limpets are included, but they are part of the Armory (I have Repair, Refuel, Armory and UC on mine).

I am not @Codger nor do I play them on TV (but I have just been ninja’d by him), however your first question depends on where you are obviously, for the second question the answer is yes you have a new option in the first tab of your right hand panel that will let you remote operate your carrier one jump at a time.

Thank you both for the replies, very helpful. I cannot believe I missed that new panel in the right hand pane. What-a stupid mistake-a to make-a.

I'm not there right now, but I figure I will depart from the Colonia system itself, I can (after I have got the money) invest in the services I want., minimum repair, refuel, UC. Then take off. I was hoping I could buy Trit, but that looks unlikely at the moment. I'm no miner, I know how to deep core, I guess I'll learn how to find and retrieve Trit at some point.

Again thank you both and you should great kindness in dealing with my dim questions.

Right now, I'm still in the initial starting area running missions. Just bought an Adder and upgraded it as much as I could, which to be honest isn't much. I just bought Elite Dangerous yesterday after all. Finally had gotten use to the keyboard/mouse controls enough that my sidewinder was no longer constantly spinning out of control. And now I'm having to get use to a new handling profile. :) My T-Flight 4 should be very helpful when it gets here. Actually, I bought this game because I had ordered a T-Flight 4 and wanted more games then (eventually) Star Wars Squadrons to use it with.

Hello and welcome!

Hello and welcome!

Thanks. Mostly playing in Solo mode right now. Well, not this precise moment. Right now I'm getting ready to meet my mom. We're going out for lunch, then I have a doctors appointment. After that, I'm coming home and doing research on what the best cargo to pick up from where I currently is, and where to take it for maximum profit. :)

Okay, maybe I enjoy that aspect a bit much. When playing Sid Meier's Pirates I spend 70% of my play time managing spread sheets with cargo buy/sell prices, length of trip, pirate activity, and so forth. As well as updating the spreadsheet every time I pull into a port.

Welcome to the game, there are a lot of things you are going to love, my recommendation is to take the time to enjoy things along the way.

^^ The merchentile aspect of the game seems to be tailor made for me. And the space combat is pretty fun, now that I understand how to actually read the radar and have more control over my ship thus am not spinning out of control. That was nauseating, and I don't normally get motion sickness or VR sickness.

I was thinking about going to Colonia but I'll give it a pass if Xloube's not gonna be there.

I don't think I'm going anywhere soon. I need to suss out this Trit mining mining business.

Oh, you're going to love this game and this forum.
