Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm really proud of the 34m creds I have in the bank and you guys make 50m in a single day.

50m is very low compared to just over a month ago. I made 275m in one hour once and that's really very average - at least it was before the mining sledgehammer fell.

And this is really a difficult thing for new joiners. Getting a fleet carrier is said to be end-game material so you wouldn't expect a new CMDR to have the money to buy one in a matter of weeks. However, as things now stand, it's going to take them an awful long while to get there - I'm thinking years of average play. I could be wrong.

Void Opals is the money-maker now though isn't it? I do an hour or so every couple of days on one account and I am cashing-in over 150M each time. VO hotspot with also the other valuable cores present - no overlap, just a VO hotspot in a pristine ring - of course it is RNG but so far I have no complaints.

EDIT: BTW 112 painite should be worth over 70million.

I did try a VO hotpspot yesterday (or maybe the day before) but all I found was alexandrite cores. Well, I did find one but I failed the detonation requirement so that was ... annoying :D

Where did you find the 70million? I was looking at EDDB and I could have got 800k per, but the market for that was a heck of a long way off.

Me, I'm rather proud when I make a trade run that nets me 20-30k. Then again, I realize that I'm still in the "kiddie pool", so to speak. And on occasion I come across some really good deals, allowing me to make a hundred thousand credits with an initial investment of 160-320 credits over the course of a few trades. Throw in any courier jobs and possibly some bounties if pirates attack me, and I'm happy with my current profits. Later, I'll be after better profits and likely ignore the "small potato" trades I'm doing right now. But I am just starting out. Seelie Deliveries is still effectively being ran out of the back of my pickup truck.

Aaaw, 30k.

As i said, I'm aware I'm basically doing small time milk runs right now. But when you're just starting out, those milk runs are good profits. And they help you get to a point where you can make more. Either because you can haul more cargo, or because you start getting trusted with more valuable cargo... or both.

EDIT: Speaking of which, I should do a few of those "milk runs" now.

I'll always recommend courier missions for newbies. I still do them now. Maybe that's why I only have 34m creds.

And settle in somewhere you can make friends with minor aligned factions. They'll give you more high paying missions.

To do that, I'll have to leave the initial 10 systems. That alone is limiting both my ability to upgrade and my business opportunities since once I leave, I can't return. I keep examining the local markets and seeing fantastic prices that would let me make a mint (compared to my current offerings), only to then notice the destination isn't one of the 10 starter systems. So I have to ignore it or be locked out of the Pilot Federation starting area. Once I'm ready to leave this area, I'll grab a cargo and accept the 100k mission to travel elsewhere.

Yeah, I didn't realise I'd be locked out of the starting area when I left. I'd recommend staying in there and playing with the other humans a bit before you leave.

I may hsve posted this before but hey ho...

My first ever mission was for 10k. This was a superb amount and I was chuffed to bits as it got me exactly what I wanted at the time - a docking computer. A feeling I've never forgotten.

My first mission was to transport 3 Basic Medicine to the next system over for 30k. I used the money to buy a better power distributor, engine, and 2 tons more cargo space. My 2nd mission was to transport 5 tons of something two systems away, again for 30k. Also had a courier mission there for 30k. That let me finish upgrading my sidewinder as much as possible in the starter systems.

I didn't either. I just happened to be taking missions, and thus staying in those systems. I kept eyeing the 100k mission on offer, but it kept saying i'd be unable to return, so decided against it. I found out docking anywhere else bars me from re-entering those 10 systems from the Steam forums.

Ignore Steam and Reddit. You get all your knowledge here. I learnt everything I know from Para Handy and Tyres. They'll set you straight.

Eh, I didn't initially even think "hey, is there an official forum?" So I went to Steam to try figuring things out. Especially when I tried VR, and found there to be issues. I looked for official forums when Steam gave me insults rather then help with the issue I had in VR.

I can't either. Trump paid for my Oculus Quest, as well as most of the software on it plus my Link cable. Thank you Trump, but you're still an imbecilic lunatic.

Then again, Bush Jr paid for my X-Box One.
