Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm going back to flight school now that my HOTAS has arrived. Well, actually I'm taking a break after making a few courier runs. Last courier run my planned cargo didn't pan out. I need to find a different market then the one I planned unless I wanna lose credits. Guess a lot of people have been trading the same thing in the area, since prices have plummeted.

Right now, I'm still in the initial starting area running missions. Just bought an Adder and upgraded it as much as I could, which to be honest isn't much. I just bought Elite Dangerous yesterday after all. Finally had gotten use to the keyboard/mouse controls enough that my sidewinder was no longer constantly spinning out of control. And now I'm having to get use to a new handling profile. :) My T-Flight 4 should be very helpful when it gets here. Actually, I bought this game because I had ordered a T-Flight 4 and wanted more games then (eventually) Star Wars Squadrons to use it with.

Welcome! I have a similar approach to ED, although it involves notebooks spread across my desk with lists, tables, route calculations, as well as multiple online tools. Have fun!

My setup for playing Elite Dangerous currently involves a notebook, two notepads, pencil (not pen), Surface Go set up with a spreadsheet, and my HOTAS bracketing the Surface Go.

Where's our Thrustmaster review, Pixie?

I'm breaking my code of silence while watching Amazing Spider-Man 2.

I've only used it for a couple courier runs so far, with the bulk of my time being me trying to figure out the various default keybinds. It's working well though. Once my arms aren't quite as tired, I may jump into X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. I wanna see what it's like in a combat focused game, since I didn't get attacked while making my 2 runs.

I haven't tweaked the tension at all, but it feels pretty good so far. Mind you, I've also tried to play War Thunder using it. And my reaction is... "t-flgiht 4 works great, game it's self doesn't."

Your are funny.

i'm serious here. I tried using the T-Flight 4 control scheme profile built into War Thunder, and while movement was intuitive... there were zero weapon use binds. Every button was instead linked to camera controls and targeting. Yes, even the trigger. I tried setting up my own binds, and even using modifier buttons there aren't enough buttons for all the vital things. Oh, and following the setup wizard to set up a custom keybind, it for some reason had rolling left as "move joystick right", rolling left as "move joystick left", Pitch up (fly up) as "twist joy stick left", pitch down was "push joy stick diagonally", and throttle manipulation somehow got bound to twisting the joystick right and pulling the joystick back. The actual throttle was activating rudder flaps when I moved it for some reason. I made the executive decision that it's not worth fighting with the game, and uninstalled it.

EDIT: Yes, I spoke correctly. it set up two binds for rolling left, none for rolling right. And yaw controls were somehow put on the throttle stick instead of twisting the joystick like I'd tried to assign.

Probably not wanting the jaunts to drag post the 5kly P-Trek, have invested in and souped Getafix to get 50ly jumps ahead of either going Guardian kit hunting or mat/shard gathering. DBX seems fun, even if it refuses to boost in my current config (not actually sure why that it but there isn’t enough charge for it).
At least it’s orange liveried tho.

And here was me thinking Pixie was a nerd.

I just realised what you were on about - those images are from EDDiscovery - not a spreadsheet. If you have not encountered EDDiscovery, you are missing out on some seriously useful features.

I don't use the manufacturer's software to fix my key bindings. They just seem to complicate things and ED's control settings seem to work well enough. Maybe just reset or uninstall it and use the game's settings instead.

Intriguing. A new toy to play with. Thanks, Para. Downloaded.

It works great with ED, and the manufacturer provided keymapping for ED is quite good once you get use to the layout. It's War Thunder I had so many problems with getting it set up.

Not enough charge to boost usually means you have no pips to engines, your landing gear is down or your cargo scoop is extended.
