I've been playing Elite Dangerous since premium beta and originally started out in open. After a few issues with other players (no it's not one of those threads) I decided to join Mobius, but I couldn't ever find anyone to play with (big galaxy with a relatively small number of people in comparison makes finding people hard) and ended up playing exclusively solo until I got frustrated with the lack of challenge from NPC pirates (most of the time they're pretty much nonexistent) and haven't touched the game in months. I think the major problem is I want ED to be more like Elite 84 but with better graphics, and was trying to play ED in a similar fashion to the original Elite and FE2 games, but it's not really structured the same way. For example, you're rarely interdicted by NPC's, so it's not really much like the original game which was a lot more action packed in comparison. In the original game the pirates were an ever present threat, but in ED they seem to be on vacation. I primarily play as a trader, but trading in Elite and FE2 is interesting because you run into space pirates to break up the monotony of shifting cargo from place to place, with lower security systems being a gamble where you run the risk of multiple pirates. In ED, however, the pirates seem not to care. I hardly ever get interdicted, even missions only occasionally throw something interesting my way, I can play for days and not see an NPC pirate even if I stick to hauling high value cargo in low security systems... The game just feels dead with me going from station to station, buying here, selling there, missions here, mission there, back and and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and fo...... OH GOD! Pirates, please do something before I go bloody stir crazy!!!

I'm thinking of starting over with a Sidewinder and playing exclusively in open. Maybe a few people around might make the game a bit more interesting. It's this a good idea? I'll probably die a lot, but c'est la vie, I guess. Anything is better than playing the gaming equivalent of reading the dictionary...
