Is it worth starting over?

I've been playing Elite Dangerous since premium beta and originally started out in open. After a few issues with other players (no it's not one of those threads) I decided to join Mobius, but I couldn't ever find anyone to play with (big galaxy with a relatively small number of people in comparison makes finding people hard) and ended up playing exclusively solo until I got frustrated with the lack of challenge from NPC pirates (most of the time they're pretty much nonexistent) and haven't touched the game in months. I think the major problem is I want ED to be more like Elite 84 but with better graphics, and was trying to play ED in a similar fashion to the original Elite and FE2 games, but it's not really structured the same way. For example, you're rarely interdicted by NPC's, so it's not really much like the original game which was a lot more action packed in comparison. In the original game the pirates were an ever present threat, but in ED they seem to be on vacation. I primarily play as a trader, but trading in Elite and FE2 is interesting because you run into space pirates to break up the monotony of shifting cargo from place to place, with lower security systems being a gamble where you run the risk of multiple pirates. In ED, however, the pirates seem not to care. I hardly ever get interdicted, even missions only occasionally throw something interesting my way, I can play for days and not see an NPC pirate even if I stick to hauling high value cargo in low security systems... The game just feels dead with me going from station to station, buying here, selling there, missions here, mission there, back and and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and fo...... OH GOD! Pirates, please do something before I go bloody stir crazy!!! o_O.

I'm thinking of starting over with a Sidewinder and playing exclusively in open. Maybe a few people around might make the game a bit more interesting. It's this a good idea? I'll probably die a lot, but c'est la vie, I guess. Anything is better than playing the gaming equivalent of reading the dictionary...

I think if the choice is between stopping playing because you're bored, and starting a fresh save, go with the fresh save imo, see if it gives you any reason to continue to play.

But you could just buy a ship and pick a minimum credit value you won't go below & that way you don't have to unlock engineers & stuff all over again.

You really don’t need to start over to play in open in a sidewinder. You can just buy a sidewinder and log in to open play. Who cares if you can afford more expensive ships if that is what you find fun? Just buy a sidewinder and try it out!

That's a good point, I didn't consider that!

If you want to start over, buy a new account when the game is on sale. At least you can always go back to your old account, or you can role-play 2 pilots doing different things on totally different places.

I might consider doing this as well.

Sounds like you need to join a squadron mate. It will bring a new social element to the game

I tried that in Mobius... Nobody ever talked to anyone else! :ROFLMAO:

I think I was eventually kicked because I've not logged in for ages.

Try hauling missions if you want interdictions. These will spawn a lot of high ranked Conda's who's arrival will be announced through mission messages. Usually 4 per mission. These are a nice target practice and a great source of mats to boot :) (if you manage to kill them that is, otherwise you'll be their source..)

There are plenty of squadrons that interact all the time. Find a socially oriented one
I never understood the need to "talk" to people in a spaceship simulator. It would be one thing if everyone stayed in character, like truckers using a CB radio, but every "social" group I've joined always devolves into real-life drama and soap opera nonsense (and politics and religion), the very thing I play games like ED to escape from.

I'd much rather have NPCs with better comms. My best game friends were my NPC companions in Dragon's Dogma, LOL. But hey, if you want Facebook in Space, there are plenty of Squadrons that are exactly that, so enjoy!

You problem is for me very unusual ,I literally kiled 31 consecutive dangerous Condas 4 days ago as I couldnt handle 5 consecutive interdictions any more , it took 3 hours to kill them all and collect their mats , by the end I didnt want to do that again either ,so reduced to submitting ,boosting and low waking back to the station, if you want to experience this I can direct you to this system and plenty of player interaction :)

31? I was mad after 5 of them

I did a kind of RP style "soft-reset" not long ago.
Basically I suicided by best ship in a specific way with the idea that I got blown up in an intense fight and had no rebuy.
(In reality I let myself die and took a lot of assets with me and lost a lot of credits so that I'd be nearly 10 million debt, and then got rid of the Anaconda because that thing is boring to fly).
Killed myself again and got my sidey at LHS 3447.
Within the same day I had over a million.
Within a week I had enough to start mining void opals...
Shortly after I had enough to rebuy an Anaconda.
So no I'd say not really worth it.
It was an interesting experience but I think I knew way too much about the game to make it really enjoyable and make the "content" last.
I didn't sell off all my ships and modules but a lot of them are legacy modules anyway so I might as well have sold them off...
I play exclusively open in anyway and I rarely have many hostile player interactions.
And the ones I do have are fairly easy to avert by carefully flying in supercruise so they can't tag your rear.
Can't interdict from the front :)
Generally the worst players for hostile players used to be CG's, quite rightly.
But trucking/pirating in highly populated mining systems might be interesting now.
I'm sure people are making a good few millions with piracy lately.
PS, unless I'm doing some "virtual photography" I only play in open.
