Alec's best of the forum (and elsewhere) [v2]

Trending: New ways to play Elite + an Elite: Dangerous events calendar.

Also wanted to highlight a few other things.

First there's this (anyone who's done speedbowl before knows this is VERY exciting, and if you haven't then you should)

Second, everyone MUST watch this video immediately - it's sensational!

And lastly, there's a new Buckyball Race ("Keys To The Carrier") starting this weekend - more details coming soooooon!

Congratulations to Operation IDA :)

This was just the kind of activity Carriers in their current implementation would have been ideally suited for, I hope the Cmdrs involved adjust to the new normal of having completed an enormous challenge, and find another project to sink their teeth into soon.

Absolutely! That said, I also hope the Thargoid attacks resume. The burning stations are a spectacular sight and an exciting bit of gameplay and it seems a horribly wasted bit of resourcing in terms of all the design work that went into these for the whole cycle to now be "finished". Much admiration tho' I have for what operation Ida have achieved, I sincerely hope their work will be an ongojng project.

It turns out there was a forum thread so I'll link it into Trending for posterity.

We need another Galaxy

This one's already too small...
Yeah, I know what you mean. I totally understand the misgivings about what the DSSA means for the galaxy but I think the thing we have to accept (and I'm sure the DSSA organisers get this as much as anyone) is that the days where the center (or indeed far side) of the galaxy were seriously difficult and remote places to get to are long gone. The speed record for Sol to Sagittarius A* is now under 1.5 hours! It's a different game from the one we had at the start. I'm incredibly thankful that I experienced those times (and the times when you dreamed of being able to afford an Asp Explorer) but they're gone.

The challenge of piloting an unengineered AspX around the galaxy hasn't changed. Now there are alternatives but you can still experience it the original way.

Kinda. Let me put it like this ... if there were regularly spaced rest rooms all the way up Mt Everest (which, for all I know, there probably are these days) would the experience of successfully climbing Everest (even if you chose not to use them so you can experience the climb the original way) actually be the same. I suggest perhaps not quite?

Let me put it like this:

Nothing has been removed that prevents you from carrying on as before. Only additions to the game here, and that's all good.

For clarity, Carriers remove no functionality from the game for any player, they only add choice which is up to you to take or leave, as you well know.

Wow!!! You're right

Nothing like the ADS...

There have been a few changes that have removed functionality, or mean that a player can no longer go back & do something they used to do. Fleet Carriers functionality isn't one of them, although the way fuel availability (a core gameplay element for travelling with a carrier) could be considered similarly if it is not just yet another bug.

What Carriers do, is open up lots of potential for new huge challenges and projects without taking anything away from those that wish to do something the hard way or the way they used to for the hell of it.
