Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

Nah you're just really, really bitter.

So very, very far from bitter. It's hilarious you think so.

Who cares what mode someone opposing you is in? Or what specific private group? It's not like it can be policed so just assume it will happen. The game allows it, so they can do it.

Like I've already said, folks can play in whatever mode they like. However, you don't get to complain about people infiltrating your PG when you use that PG to attack other people's BGS.

Actions and consequences, you know?

But do you have problems with players intentionally using smurf/alt accounts in order to "infiltrate" PGs like Mobius or Fleetcom, in times such as DG, with the sole purpose of ganking griefing players?

Of course I do. Open is PVP. PG can be PVP, if that's what the owners want. I have no interest in going into someone's PG to kill them unless they invite me to do so. If you invited me to your PG, and said no PVP ever, I'd be quite happy to follow the rule if I had some reason to be playing in it.

Phisto, you brought this on yourself. You are attempting to deflect blame, by throwing mud & seeing what sticks.

Don't be a sore loser.

I think at the end of the day it isn't something I would do, either. I just don't have the time and the energy for it.

That said, depending on the group I won't shed any tears if it happens.

Sore loser over what?

Of course I do. Open is PVP PvPvE. PG can be PVP(But isn't, as you could do that in open anyway. Because PvE cannot interupt PvP, like PvP can to PvE.), if that's what the owners want. Exactly. And that's the point of the entire "PvE carebear" vs "PvP ganklord" war. The fact that there were (and maybe still are) players who have no problem happily doing that though. Eh, that makes fleetcom/mobius get a bad rep as a result. I'm not defending them either, but I can't blame them after what happened with DG vs DW2. Anybody could be a smurf/alt of a known ganker, and sometimes you just really gotta make sure nobody ruins an event like that with guns blazing.(unless it's specifically about combat, or PvP, obviously)

Actually I once went into PG for protracted PVP just in case the lawfuls turned up as I was playing the ganker to base test their ship, didnt want PVP Police turning up thinking was a genuine attack lol

Not really. It's about control. The former wants it, the latter will never give it up.
Eh, maybe. I honestly don't care. I just get tired of crappy game design that, in a way, indirectly "encourages" uncivilized behavior just for the sake of it. I'd like for it to at least feel like it fits within the game's world. Games like this, it always...I mean aaaalllwwaaayyys feels way too video gamey despite everything else doing everything in its power in getting the player immersed or engaged into its gameplay.

Know what I mean?

Yeah, I think I do. For me the best of Elite has always been in spite of FDEV. As ridiculous as these debates get, know that I am smiling ultimately.

I do that with a friend too, it makes me chuckle to read XX murder attempts in yy system - and it has been us 2 playing around with silly builds and blowing each other up - mostly by accident rather than by excessive skill! - I think the best session had 11 'murders' in the anarchy system we were playing in added :)

I believe at some point in the past, FDEV has explicitly come out and said that infiltration like that is against their TOS. Losing thousands of hours of work in a game we enjoy just for a gank is foolish. I think it's important to note that PVE does impact PVP - ATR does circumspect our behavior. We can fight, and even kill them potentially if we're careful, but 99% of the time the ganker is gonna wake out if they can't complete the kill on the player fast enough.

I think it was in response to the DG infiltration of PG that made them 'clarify' or 'tighten up' the TOS, but dont think anybody got banned from game for it if the former. No consequences, or not ones that mattered anyway. Its an open secret (see what I did there?) that Fdev will probably (almost certainly) reinstate your ship if you lose it in deep space, almost regardless of reason. This too was initially a response to DG and has become a bit of a comfort blanket. I choose not to use it. So Im not sure DG had any positive long term effect on the game.
