Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

We can all sit here and say that every playstyle is valid, but ganking is the only playstyle that actively impacts other players in a significant way.
Actually we had some good discussion a few pages back about how BGS players can actively screw each other out of weeks' worth of work. Even if they're doing it all in Solo or PG.

And with the way trading has been amended recently, if I get to a station with tritium at 4k/ton and clean it out before the next guy, well, sucks for him because it's gone now. Maybe he can have better luck elsewhere.

So there are definitely other ways to significantly impact players besides ganking. They may not seem as harsh or as dramatic or direct, but there are examples.

And no one disputes that crime & punishment mechanics are largely meaningless. The deterrents for bad behavior are not significant, especially not now that Fleet Carriers exist. And the lack of compelling realm-vs-realm content means that PowerPlay is largely irrelevant, too.

It's understood that, for some players, this ruins the immersive feeling of the galaxy - makes it feel gamey in a way that they strongly dislike.

Again though, the counter argument is always the same: this is literally the game mode working as FDev created it. They give fair warning in the marketing materials of "rogue commanders who have betrayed the Pilots Federation." This is a game feature as much as any other. It cannot be wished, or shamed, away.

How each player chooses to accept that truth is up to them, of course.

The most notorious one for me is still going to be the guy that, after a group put up a recruitment post and advertised themselves as "LGBT friendly", and got a mention from FDev during pride month even, decided to track down that group's home system and start murdering authority ships with a series of ship names that made his feelings plain about LGBT issues, so they'd have to see it at the top of their bounty board.

I went out of my way to help undo the damage from that, as did a few other groups that are normally at each other's throats, since it was something that we really thought went beyond the pale no matter how much we like murdering each other.

Yea, that could be considered griefing to be honest. Nobody should be harassed like that, this is a video game, leave your baggage at the door or get out. Amirite?

Because you clicked on open and either didn't care to educate yourself on how to survive or thought you'd get away with poor decision making. The end.
The same should apply to you as well, actions have consequenses.

If mine should be the loss of my stuff and a rebuy, then yours should be "equal", for the lack of a better word, in nature as well. Attackers gain nothing but salt in the game, because the game does not "reward" organic PvP, such as powerplay warzones or what CQC could have been for conflict zones and such. But it never happened. Instead, our only reasons to ever do PvP is more along the lines of "haha gun go brrr". I'd love to PvP, but I will never do so until this game puts in some real reasons to partake in it in terms of gameplay and risk/reward and all that kind of stuff.

If I wanted a "haha funny booms and weee shooty mc shootface lmao" I'd go play a game that emphasizes that.

Elite is far too grand a game world for me to care about nonsensical fun sprees for the sake of random shenanigans. Meeeeh, I don't see any content potential in doing some of the things that certain players here does. I mean, hey it's the way they play and all. But it still ruins MY game, if and/or when it happens.

MY game cannot and will not ever be able to possibly ruin yours. No, not because solo or that dumb BGS reason for "open only"(I dont like this, I like "shadow opponents" because it gives me that vibe that there's secret organizations trying to manipulate things to oppose you, very espianage-like imo)or whatever. Because I don't play this game in your typical "imma hop on CoD for a few with the mates to rek some noobs and boost my K/D" or whatever other video gamey mindset you might wanna have. Not with this game, at least. The same goes for a number of other players, I'm sure, where they like having their "emergent gameplay" at lease FEEL as if it makes sense in the setting. It doesn't seem fitting to have a 5-month long murder spree that has been happening nonstop to every single pilot having entered the system...with said system supposedly being "considered one of the best and safest places in the galaxy" for example, in said game's world setting. Yet at the same time, the system that is SUPPOSED to be just like a Mos Eisley type place where all sorts of the purist forms of murderous barbarian-like anarchy is running rampant and out of control...but in-game it's the actual safest place in open for the wimpiest of crybaby pve carebears.
See the difference?

@Leman_Russ_VI @Albino Sanchez @Jan_RD2 I am proud to have you as my disciples, the galaxy truly has ying and yang with you guys in it.
We will spread the word of Colonia Jesus even in the most remote parts of the galaxy so every cmdr will hear it!

I'm hearing a lot of positive love for this Colonia Jesus fellow. Maybe I need him to show me the way one of these days?! ;)

Sadly, not even Colonia Jesus is capable of parting a stuck Braben Tunnel.

I have heard he can deal with many coloured demon-serpents though, but I'm yet to see it with mine own eyes...!

Perhaps he could part that particular tunnel you mentioned though, and insert a size 12 leather clad slipper up it? ;)
