🐾 Planet Zoo - Update 1.3 coming 25 August 🐾

Exactly, It honestly does not bother me anymore, since I gave up a long time ago on an open zoo, the unrealistic and cartoonish human figurines just walking thru everything take away from the realism of the zoo design. However since I do like the vending machines, here is another question, why can't Planet Zoo have its own identity when it comes to a lot of these props? Why can't we have vending machines with stripes, spots, the scales of a snake, or just some animal concept art or pictures? Why do we keep on getting these genetic Street Coffee, and Pipshot Smoothies, etc, what do these things have to do with zoos or anything related. I understand why they were part of Planet Coaster, since they definitely look the part as props for a theme park, but not a zoo. In any case, Frontier does a great job, just wish that they paid closer attention when it came to certain details that make a big difference at the end.

Having giant pandas available (unless China just decided to be overly generous with their pandas) and keepers walking into habitats with the animals kinda takes away any realism right off the bat.

There are only 500 Siberian tigers left, according to this logic, hardly any player would have any. I think that the players should deal especially with endangered species.

The fact that the keepers are in the enclosure with the animals has been deliberately chosen for better gameplay.

EDIT BECAUSE POST ABOVE IS ENGLISH NOW.

Anyway, what Casperite means is, that Giant Pandas are ALWAYS only borrowed by China. No zoo out of China actually own a giant panda, all are "chinese" propperty. And china can be quite picky about who gets one. So the comparision with rare animals like the sibirian tigre isn't quite fitting.

And the way keepers work is chosen because it was an easy solution. I would not call it better game play though, even if it means we don't have to build night cages and such. I would have loved the challenge.

English, please, this is the international froums.
Though I actually don't know if you translated something by accident, because if this shall be german, it's terrible... :D

I can't make up what the rest of your post says, though.
Please excuse the previous comment in German, it was automatically translated by google.

Yes, it was a terrible translation.

I won't comment on the smartphone anymore. :D

I may be wrong but I think I can see the Eucalyptus tree behind the vending machines and that means that we are getting the australian DLC probably 😄
Good spot! This pretty much confirms it for me. Expect to hear about an Oceania DLC in the coming week.

So on the inevitable Oceania DLC release... Kangaroos and Koalas are a given. As a New Zealander, I would LOVE to see our Kiwi represented, or make a Tuatara as an exhibit animal. Any other ideas on what else could be included? Wombats? Platypus? Blue Penguins?

I expect it sooner. Usually a dlc comes out together with a major update, and we don't even have a week left now. Unless Frontier decides that advertising for just one day would be enough to sell a dlc.

I agree with your picks. I would LOVE to see kiwi birds if its Oceania rather than just Australia. One other animal I would love to have is Tasmanian Devil. So unique and would fit the conservation theme.

Our Zoo Prague in Czech Republic is actually building an exhibit for them. Cannot wait to finally see one in person. :)

Good call! I totally forgot about them

I would LOVE the platypus and penguin-- also the tree kangaroo which is a favorite of mine. I hope you're right about the koala too. Maybe if we're super lucky, it would come with better climbing/arboreal behavior.

The thing about those numbers is they only apply to the wild population though-- there's more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild. BUT you're still technically right if we're talking about purebreds. Most tigers in captivity are crossbreeds between Siberians and other subspecies. So pure Siberians might be just as rare in captivity as they are in the wild. I don't actually know.

Of your proposed species, IMO only the kangaroo is guaranteed.

If the theme is "Oceania" rather than "Australia", I think New Zealand will still be missed, unless they throw us a bone with an exhibtit animal. Danny_zoo pointed out the rainbow gum, native to New Guinea - IMO rather than the koala we might see a tree kangaroo. The kiwi would be a dream come true - together with the new lighting system, making a kiwi house would be amazing. I doubt we'll see either the platypus or the blue penguin, mostly because there're no aquatic species as yet, and no underwater navigation.

Current taxonomical science suggests only two subspecies of tiger - the mainland tiger (which includes the Bengal, Siberian, Indochinese, Malayan, South China, and so on), and the Sunda tiger (which includes the Sumatran, and the extinct Javan and Bali tigers). Everything in between counts as a 'subpopulation', like the Asiatic lion (which belongs to Panthera leo leo). Most zoo either have hybridised Siberian/Bengal tigers, or Sumatran tigers (which is why I think it's weird that Frontier went with the Bengal rather than the Sumatran to fill the 'tropical tiger' niche).

The international studbook for Tigers entails 578 Siberian Tigers in 234 institutions in 2017. It's the most numerous Tiger sub species in zoos, according to the studbook. The studbook is very strict about the Tigers lineage, so these are most likely pure breed

Hello, thank you very much for the information!
I'm really looking forward to the update. These improvements are definitely a step in the hoped-for direction. But I prepare myself for the fact that, as so often, there will be bigger problems again, which you usually solve quickly.

By the way, are the clothes and hairstyles of the avatars finally being balanced?

The chubby avattars have a lot less choice of hairstyles and clothes than the slim ones. In addition, the one shirt with the skull is only one color.

Somehow this question about the avatars has never been answered ... or did I skip the answers?

ohhhh good to know! I also should've remembered that tigers in "captivity" wouldn't just mean "zoos." The amount of tigers kept as pets is depressingly MUCH higher.

@Chante Goodman

Oh wow!! This update sounds AMAZING! Seems that the colour variation is gonna be something bigger than I expected! Really can't wait to see more of it.
You guys haveeeee to tease us daily until next week with a screenshot of a colour variation! You have to! hahahaha

Obviously Im mostly excited about the colour variations but boy did I not expect all the other things cocming with the free update! Im excited for all these quality of life updates. Will make it so much better to manage things around the park which will result in having more time to watch the animals!
Thanks so much for the Light toggle! A small request but with a big impact. I cant wait for it to be Christmas already and Ill let my Christmas lights on the entire day :p

And Im SO curious bout the new Biome and the Sandbox map..... All the new scenery assets! And .....a new DLC perhaps?

Thank you so much. Looking forward to any more details and of course...next week! <3

This update sounds great!!
I've restarted playing quite recently (finally on real vacations) and I'm going trough the career mode scenarios, almost done with them. So I'm excited to start building franchise zoos with the new stuff :D
Going to spend way too much time tyring to get varied and pretty herds I can already tell.

Thank you so much to the team for their work during these times 😌
