Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Aren't they even slightly aware of what might be broken in the bit of code they're 'synching' back in? That's like me putting gearbox oil that's done 10,000 hours back into a rebuilt gearbox then feeling somewhat surprised that my tractor stops working when the gears fall out the bottom of it
You're not agile enough. And your sprint speed isn't prime standard neither, I bet.

Has anyone else noticed that a planet-sized flight simulator with unparalleled fidelity went from Alpha to Beta to Live, all between May 2020 to date.

I wonder if that's ever been done before?

On topic: has anyone seen or heard anything of the sand wormies recently, and when does SQ42 video and/or beta release? (Asking for a friend.)

I am not convinced that the comparison is 100% valid. Microsoft flight Simulator (MFS) is using data from Bing maps which already exist.
The comparison does seem to be valid when looking at the MFS reviews. Even though it is in single player the FPS is at SC MMO levels IE low.
One quote is.
("But while the visual quality is certainly scalable, performance doesn't scale proportionally. That means landing at JFK is still a stuttery affair using any preset, including low" )

I do intend to buy MFS when the price comes down.

In the last few pages we seem to be discussing ED Odyssey , SC and MFS. Some of the folk discussing and comparing them have not played any of them, That is "hilarious"

Dude, you're not posting news when it came to that reddit road brush speculation, you're just posting speculations. It's why people are saying you're despearte and grasping or things to be excited about.

Someone telling us that we can not or should speculate on this thread! That is "hilarious". this thread is all about folk getting excited about speculation.
IE. That SC is a money laundering operation, ask them to provide evidence and it is clear that it is just speculation.

Not long ago they also said they had 600 people, then they said they had 90 actual devs, and now 450... devs? Or people?

I'm going to speculate (wildly) that the 450 figure is actual CIG employees while the extra 150 are external, either contractors or Turbulent (and other companies, Firesprite?) people working on SC/SQ42.
By the general looks of things, it seems like a plausible distribution is:
• 600 “working” on the project
• 150 of those are external contractors
• 90 of those are programmers
:p

Apart from Odyssey...at least the Elite version and not the Ubisoft hack and slash extravaganza...I've played them all :)

Unistalled MSFS 2020 after I saw the patchwork quilt rendition of my islands that Microsoft deemed acceptable. It seems if you're not in the US, Bing maps simply replaces your entire location with 'Here be Dragons'. I'll wait for the next great thing in flight sims...when it uses Google maps instead of some badly drawn boy version of our planet.

After the flight sim decided to reinstall the entire 91Gb from scratch out of nowhere and for no good reason, I gave up and binned it. Glad it didn't cost me anything :)

If anyone doubts the spaghetti code...how can adding 'new' content break something as basic as hangar doors? They weren't broken before, there have been no issues with them being reported as broken previous to 3.10 PTU... so how can not touching or farting about with the simple bit of code governing them break their operation?...Unless that same bit of code somehow also governs the buying of Pico plushies in some way :cautious:
Oh Elite manages that all the time, too
Just look what the Arx store all crippled 😅

So, I just read some public figure in the US (we dont need to get this political, so no name) got arrested for crowdfunding a thing and suspicion of misappropriation funneling fund into his own pocket. In other words: There is hope for Chris and Ortwin to come under scrutiny.
This actually does have a connection to the gaming world, as Steve Bannon made millions with IGE (basically WoW gold farming and shady RMT) which was a total mess of corruption, slave labor and money laundering.

To be honest, you'd be surprised at what mistakes can happen even in professional companies (ie: not CIG) with builds and code merges. I've seen perfectly working builds become a total mess because one person didn't follow the correct proceedure and merged old code from their personal branch. Usually such things get caught before they go to the production server, but the bigger the project, the easier it is to miss such things, so the bigger the project, the more essential it is you have solid processes in place, because your automated tests might not always catch these things (or more likely, the test did, but when you are getting multiple build results each days, sometimes you can miss a warning/error. And when you do, sometimes you get an angry phone call from a client at midnight screaming at you that their system doesn't work.

Now, compound that with tired employees who are working in crunch mode for months or years at a time, and mistakes like this can easily be compounded and happen again and again, and the gaming industry is well known for relying on crunch. I don't know how much crunch CIG does, how persistent it is, but i'd hazard a guess its frequent enough that mistakes like this happen on a regular basis.

:p

5 gold skins,
4 calling all devs,
3 French devs,
2 Turtle aliens,
And a Roberts in a money tree

Considering that "road" image, I don't see any roads there. In fact it reminds me of certain canyons on Elite's planets when you have good luck and find traversably terrain out from canyons bottom. And those places certainly aren't roads.
