Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Another dreams.txt

Don't get too excited Little Ant, none of this will ever happen.

May the gods help these people when SC turns out to be nothing like they imagined.

It's the AI NPC's that will make this game and change it beyond all recognition from what it is now. Right now few even contemplate the notion that there will be big social events in the game - but there will.

The in-game universe has it's own events calendar, and the universe goes on even if there are no players there to see it, the Murray Cup Racing season will happen even if there are no players around. This is what those outside can't wrap their heads around, they can only think in terms of other games they have played.. nothing like this has ever been tried before.

The way it is now you log in to grind or sight-see, or goof around. In the future you will log in to see what the hell is going on today! ..and where! Local holidays, Empire holidays, local festivals, local elections, sporting events, seasonal events (holidaying etc). More opportunities for shopping than you can shake a stick at. It will be a case of "Make sure I get next Thursday off! It's Fashion Week on Terra II! I have to get my ass to Prime!" or "It's surfing week on Tangaroa! ...and then I have to go to the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo!"

All of this doesn't even include player run events, and Sean Tracy in particular is very keen to give the players the tools to organise their own events.

Star Citizen may well affect the global economy because of all the players pulling sick days. It happens with GTA etc. I will happen in Star Citizen because no other game has such organised spectacle. They can invite anyone into this living breathing universe, not just professional opera singers - where all you have to do is turn up. Right now they are still building tools and long term assets - because it's huge. Once they are done with those the 'content' will come thick and fast.

They have been planning something to happen in the Stanton system for about a year now they hinted at it at CitizenCon last year, if all goes to plan it will come toward the end of this year. It's just a small taste of what is to come in the future but it will knock peoples socks off. If you thought Fleet Week was big, hold on to your hats. It used to be that they put things into the PU more or less randomly but that stopped last year, now everything has a plan... this why the gas giant Crusader isn't such a big priority... but Pyro is.

I'm not joking. This is what they are planning, this living breathing universe is going to be the most amazing place you ever been.

Most MMOs I play have this automated already in the background. I play games that are no longer directly developed and In maintainence mode which have this "never tried before" feature.

If you thought Fleet Week was big, hold on to your hats.
Holding on very firmly to my hat. Fleet Week was a complete farce. A few 3D models were moving on completely pre-determined, hard coded paths. Wow. Meanwhile the servers were catching fire, stability was about 10 minutes tops before getting a 30K.
Speaking of AI, i tried the barman, there were 2 of them, spamming random responses at random times (completely out of sync), took them about 10 minutes to understand how to sell me a beer, with no other customer around, all the while standing still with a blank stare. Yeah, i believe that's going to be revolutionary, but maybe not in the way cultists think it will be...
Oh and should i mention the completely broken ATC with closing hangar doors, you have to spam them so they open and you can quickly get in before they close again... or the buggered restricted areas (good thing they spent maybe 2 years reworking that !) which are now invisible and will send your ship crashing immediately. Or the buggered landing / take off splines, that never appear in the right direction, or anywhere near your landing pad / hangar, and again will decide to send your ship into a crash (it takes control of your ship with a completely idiotic "autopilot" that will certainly "autocrash" your ship..), with no particular reason or logic.
Or the now completely non-functional repair and refuel. There used to be workarounds (which were really silly to start with), but these arent doing the trick anymore. This cuts short the "fun" in a quite drastic way.
I've seen lost noobs unable to take off from A18 due to not knowing that they had to look around for the holographic splines. Oh and poor people stuck at New Babbage, because of the dead lifts.
Tried quickly some space combat, that was cut short due to massive desync with the AI ships, making that endeavour quite futile.
So if we set aside the improved FM, everything else is just getting worse. Getting around all the bugs is a real pain. Ingame community will certainly not help you get around as many of them are willfully ignoring the bugs, like when i mentioned the "no refuel" bug, took me 10 minutes to get them to admit there was something wrong, and again they told me "it's only broken for you !!" which is a blatant lie (or the New Babbage lifts, same situation..).
Getting in the PU for a few hours you clearly feel that the game engine is bursting at the seams. Everything is broken, or about to break down if the server gets a hiccup. Dunno what's happening at CiG, but if we measure progress by what we have currently, it's moving backwards.

The more they add the worse it gets.

But don't worry. When the next magical tech is added everything will get much better!

They were supposed to be temporary loaners for exploring the "bed logout" bug. They have been there for 2 years now or something ? The said bug is still there and try the bed logout at your own risk.
Strangely, the ship bed logout has worked flawlessly for me since 3.9....except my Prospector spawning back in with the landing gear up after landing and bed logging out planetside.

Yeh I noticed that when logging in and wondering why my ship was shaking so bad.
Lowering the ladder raised the front of the ship a meter off the ground 😅

Besides mostly not working for me (in the Retaliator), when i tried it in the Freelancer, i respawned at the system center, over what is supposed to be the star (Stanton - it's actually just a dot light source). I would not say it's "flawless" :D

It used to flip the ship over. Also walking under the Freelancer would do that with the crappy collision detection... Im always wary of that now. Noticed the Retaliator engines have still their collision boxes from their normal in flight configuration, even when landed in VTOL configuration (they pivot). Makes reaching the ship lifts a bit weird, hopefully that doesnt bump the ship anymore.

It was the opposite, an infinite loading bug that could only be stopped with a log out from the freelancer 's bed or a character reset.
It's a workaround for another bug. The ship bed logout issue was from long ago, and prompted the freelancer freeloaner.

I only meant that it actually worked...instead of waking up shipless in a hab at Levski :D

Dear sir, please pay attention to those links
this one is three and a half years old

And those three are from this thread:

I also suggest you to un-ignore LittleAnt.
This will help you to follow the topic of discussion properly.
The reason why it's going round and round again is because each new person who pops here to try to protect SC provides just the same old arguments that were already deconstructed. While I find 'fun' deconstructed to nihilio, each new backer resorts to it when he is out of arguments, times and times again.

So you are implying that some google-them-yourself videos would magically undo all the bugs in the game? Fascinating.
I mean no offense, but maybe it is you who only watch videos in your particular echo chamber? Maybe it is you who should follow your advice to watch a few more, from other content producers? Because until now you have provided zero evidence to support your case.

I did not realise that new folk had to read all previous 11 versions before they could join in. That seems a little excessive, I clearly did not read the rules properly.

Please answer the following questions for a newbiee

Q1, Who decided that the discussion regarding fun was over and finally decided?
This looks like censorship and someone trying to tell us what we can and can not discuss on the forum. ( where did I get that line from? - copyright acknowledged)
You mentioned fun before I did, It would appear that I can not mention it, as I am less senior to you in some way. I reject that stance, my post was in direct reply to yours.

As for the the videos, it may help to read the thread so you see my comment in context, it was not about bugs, so no that was not what I was saying.
Q2, Have you only ever seen videos of people playing SC having fun because of the bugs as the poster said? Come on be honest.

Q3, What case is it that you think I am putting that needs further evidence? When you reply please provide some evidence to support your view of that 'case'

Kind Regards
Mx 2

Oh yeah, quite a few. Physics glitches are the most common source of "fun". Hilarious ramp bugs come first i think. Then character spaghetification or other eldritch abominations. Also people falling through the geometry. Lifts detaching from their ships and getting thrown in space. People still attached to a ship physics grid when said ship takes off. Seen videos of people fooling around with ground vehicles and doing the equivalent of hand stands with armored vehicles, or even stacking them... etc. etc.
The most recent one was that Aurora that was flipped over and blown away by the wind, into which a poor hapless soul tried to enter...
