because alpha !

because alpha !
No. Because scam.

Check back in about 5 - 6 months! :)
Or 5-6 years, there is no difference.

In the past few weeks they said they were working on a roadmap to their roadmap. They have since released an article and a JPEG of part of that roadmap.
That's Tier 0, you FUDster!!

@Revenant69
Nah, not close. At least several years from a full release.
But the alpha might be enjoyable for more and more people with time (if CIG solve the gamebreaking bugs and continue to add more gameplay mechanicsm).
Yeah, like they did earlier with Star Marine. Or Theatres of War. Or Sandworms. Or AI.

Here some basic CE „Hight maps“ from an only Game MWO
You can't bring that into comparison, it has no space legs!!

And just reading through that list, and project manager would be making a tally of all the debt there, of the thousands and even millions of man hours required to get all those features done, and start to wonder if the product is ever going to get delivered.
Gamestar clearly states that CI-G doesn't manage jpeg sales, as they are completely separated from game development, therefore not tech debt!! Chris Roberts 101.

You can review a game, but you can't review an ALPHA!!!

6 years for me, I count from the reboot.
6 days for me, I count from the roadmap of roadmap. Early days.

I can't help thinking all the ppl saying Odyssey will kill off SC are as wrong as all the ones says Odyssey is a complete turkey. Both should wait and see what it actually delivers (much as SC fanbois should look at what that currently is, rather than keeping pointing to some fantastical future version that never comes).
I doubt Odyssey on its own will make the SC faithful jump ship, it looks more like an evolution of ED to me and does not provide all the FPS Stuff that is meant to be in SC.

However, unlike SC, I have a high degree of confidence that Odyssey gameplay will exist and be released in a timely manner.

True, and who cares! Nothing will ever surpass SC in their heart. Even if it'd be cancelled right now, it would be the bestest ever made, and Chris Almighty would have made all dream like never before. Absolution, they would already can't wait for his next dream project to sink their money in.

Meanwhile, in La-la Verse:
Gamestar recently published an article about SCs new roadmap of its roadmap
[...]
Why are so many ships announced?
Simultanously with the new roadmaps announcement CIG reacts to frequent criticism: How can it release new ships regularly? As those are offered for real money Star Citizen has won a reputation for being a ship sales platform.

According to CIG the reason for this is pretty simple tho: Its easy and can be accomplished on the side. Telling the ship team to work on a prowler doesnt result in lots of discussions. Because it doesnt draw resources and effort from other aspects of the project.

If you want to decide if you want to flesh out the existing mining profession or implement the basics of a new profession you gotta prioritize. Because works to one affect the other negatively.

Meanwhile, in La-la Verse:
Chris Roberts 101:
1. CRoberts announces that he will make BDSSE.
2. Backers give him money.
3. CRoberts embezzles those money to set the Jpeg Factory up and running, he hires artists, not devs.
4. "works to one [aspect of the game itself] affect the other negatively."
5. SC development experiences a shortage of devs and catastrophic deadline failures.
6. This is fine, totally not fanboys.

Oh, its interesting. SC have done some infographics on this (assuming we believe their numbers).

The numbers were generally speaking not direct. They didn't give average or peak numbers playing in the verse. They were things like how many tons of rocks mined and stuff like that.

I seem to remember a goon trying to number crunch them though and it turned out like the average number of players playing Star Marine at any moment in time was 1. (You remember Star Marine? The game mode that was meant to be more lethal than Call of Duty!).

If i were to hazard a guess there will be no more than a few hundred players at a time most of the time (remember, servers cap out at 50 players and generally fall over after a few hours) with that increasing into the thousands after a significant patch.

Not that its worth comparing at this time anyway, i mean, it is only an alpha and low numbers of players during alpha is nothing to criticize. It only become worth comparing should it ever release.
How does a game with such a low player base make allegedly so much money. This doesn't add up and I'm calling it's bogus. Or - if it really pulls so much money - it 's coming from other sources.

The Ghost has stealth modifiers to the hull that reduce emission and signature by 10% compared to other hornets. Radars are not all powerful and cannot see everything. They detect ships at different distances by the amount of emissions the target ship puts out. Ships will larger radars will detect a ship further away than a ship with a smaller radar.
I knew some cultist would say that, you disappoint me, thought you knew the game better. First, radars in game are indeed omnipotent as they really dont work like radars. They are all-knowing permanent spheres of detection. Actual radars will suffer from terrain masking to start with. The Ghost stealth modifiers are absolutely not conditioned by its huge stealth module, read again what i said - replacing it doesnt change said modifiers which are given by the Ghost armor (which is specific to that ship model), not the central module.

The eclipse has 30% reduction modifiers on its hull. It can be equipped to be incredibly stealthy and can get very close to a ship without being detected. This is one of the big issues with the game right now. Invisible eclipses launch size 9 torps that one shot everything.
Again, it's the armor that does that. It's got stealth equipment that does absolutely nada. That armor bonus goes for a few other ships (like the regular Hornet for example) which also have various armor modifiers (in the case of Hornet it's resistance to damage).

Prices are not totally fixed and do vary by player activity. Not horrible complicated, but they do change.
They really dont overall. It's still not an economy per se, just a few fixed resources with fixed spawn timers in fixed locations. You can do the same trade route over and over again for exactly the same profit day after day. The spawn timers are an artificial limitation against bulk trading. That's it...

Could be the best cargo running ship. It's speed makes it very survivable. Out runs medium fighters.
TBH a Caterpillar will do fine unless there's a torp ship with the attackers. Well, once they fix the shield holes (did they ?).

Good case could be made this is the best pvp ship in the game right now.
Abusing that EMP, right ? dunno if it's there to stay that way... My point was, its main function is still not there in game.

A mobile respawn point is hardly useless.
Again, that's a side effect of current alpha status, but first, why have a respawn point operated by your org when you have nothing special to do, apart from pretending ?
My point was, there is no gameplay associated with that. Distances and time to location are still very small. Doesnt matter if we just respawn...

Also prevents ship that are within 20k from warping away. Good ship to have around when a group of people are pirating. Not so useful solo, since the ship is so fragile.
I see how it can be abused near space stations and such maybe.. but yeah the range is comically small for its main purpose.

You can follow ships against their will by using your eyes. It is generally pretty obvious where a ship is jumping to.
But you cant interdict them mid jump as a Mantis pilot if you do this.. that's the point. Unless you have an army of Mantis pilots spread out around the system and a coordinator following the target that will call for the jump direction... which makes zero sense. Using a Cutlass Black near stations and other choke points sounds more reasonable..

Out of curiosity, how many players does SC have at any given time compared to ED?
This one is really hard to pin down - mostly because ED is on three platforms, only one of which (AFAIK) offers player count stats, and on that platform (PC) there will be many people, including myself, who don't play the game via Steam and thus don't show up in those stats.

If we go by Twitch numbers then SC is indeed bigger, but that's also fairly error-prone - are more people watching because it's a bigger game, or are more people watching because it's less stressful to watch a streamer than to try to play? Not to mention the people who don't have PCs capable of playing the alpha in its current state...

In other words, the short answer is "who knows" because there are enough variables to muddy any guess we might make. 😄

I only mentioned it because Campers marina in Gosport was where I met my wife...her mum had a yacht there.

About the only decent reason I've heard not to bomb Gosport from space tbh. Odd place, no thanks!

EDIT: Although my mum had her hip replaced at Haslar when it was still open...

I also had a mate back then who was a submariner CPO over at Dolphin...ran in the gun team for fun...very strange chap.

Used to go to the gun runs at HMS Excellent as a kid. They were warm-ups for the Royal Tournament. Very, very hard blokes do that.

Also clambered over my fair share of warships at Portsmouth Navy Days back in the late 70s & 80s.

The fact that some people still deny that you can have an enormous amount of fun in SC is truly hiding your head in the sand. Even doubters on this forum allow for it. You can watch hundreds of videos showing people having fun playing the( none existent  )parts of it that have been released to the public which people including me have played for hours at a time.

I thought we have moved on from that particular untruth.

Are the questions now not;-
Will CIG produce two good games in the near future?
I think most people would be amazed if they got one good game out of this.
One thing is certain,CIG haven’t exactly got a flair for making quality games. If past performance is anything to go by at best it will just be a bad game.
And that’s nothing to be ashamed of people make bad games all the time.

Never doubt the SC community to dig deep when the call is out,we’re talking hundreds per player per jpeg, that’s a tremendous cash cow and Chris Roberts has a permanent milk moustache.
