Sorry. Couldn’t resist. Gonk!

So all that stuff earlier in this thread about how nice & helpful the Nameless are, that's all got to be weighed against this kind of stuff too, right?

Or is this all on alt accounts?

I'm new to the game myself,I don't even have 170 hours under my belt. So I guess i'ts only fair for me to find ganking frustrating, especially when you're minding your own business in Ochosi grinding for federation ranks and ships that you have no chance of fending off just pull you out of Hyper space and have their way with you as you aimlessly struggle to run away.
I saw that the OP has a certain gaming background and that said background conditioned his expectation from ED. From my own experience with other PVP MMO I classify this as seal clubbing and people who did it had a bad reputation because it drove people away from the game and contributed to the overall toxic environment of the games.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the impression I got from reading this is that I should be thankful that I got ganked because that's how you make friends in Elite?
Anyway I must just be (un)lucky cause in those 160 somethign hours I played, a decent amount (like 50hours) in PG, I got ganked 3 times, 2 of those just this weekend, and once by none other than Jesus himself. The other time it was some guy saying that all ships had to remain docked otherwise they'd be put down because of the "WuWu virus". Didn't have any of those bonding experiences mentioned in the thread, such as paying for the credits lost, giving tips etc. Unless being killed by the Jesus guy himself is supposed to be a badge of honnor.

I'll concede that this thread did change my view of gankers a little bit, props to you for that OP. But as far as I'm concerned I'd be happier if I met asfew gankers as possible, at least for now.
Bless you. You have been cleansed by holy plasma fire of our saviour.🙏
@Joser95 your crime was to log from instance instead of submitting in the first case and then hi waking. My patience is endless and you did exactly what I expected and logged back into the very same instance.
🙏

Sorry if being killed by a player against who I don't really stand a chance doesnt resonate with me. As for logging back in I didn't expect the ganking comunity to be so dedicated to making others lose their ship. Clearly you're above the average trolls

Certainly can be. You can either be bitter about it, play solo/pg or deal with it and learn. It happens to us all. I've been ganked in places the so called Justiciars of Elite reside and they're usually nowhere to be found. Or they're ganking players like me because I run under certain colors. Either way it is what it is.

It could very well be. It all depends on perspective. I am no fan of griefing. Came across an unarmed explo Phantom a couple days ago. Dude was desperately trying to evade me. I was in my Vette so no biggy. I had no intention on griefing him. No sport since he hand no weapons. If he did, I certainly would have made a better effort to club him. So in effect my playstyle is not to kill unarmed (unless they're enemies of the squadron, all's fair in love and war, mostly war)

I'll concede that this thread did change my view of gankers a little bit
Mine has certainly been changed. May I introduce you to @Sir Ganksalot ?

Make no mistakes, there are. However again, if you're running around with weapons on your ship, to me you're fair game. I made a semi mistake of logging too. I was completely unarmed and logged the second time I low waked (big mistake I have learned). It's a grey area but one I won't make again.

What stuff? The 🙏 for our lord and saviour Colonia Jesus?

He's not a part of The Nameless or Loren's Reapers obviously, He stands far above us.
Who are we mere mortals to get weighed against Him?

In seriousness, there are players who are literally getting ganked by NPCs in Solo and losing hours of progress.

So even if you play in Solo, as the advertisement on the game's marketing website declares, "you'll need combat skills to survive."

As much as we gankers do, in fact, represent an "opposing force" to other players in the game, unlike the NPCs, we can actually answer questions and help other players learn the game. And most of us - not all, surely, but most - are more than happy to do so.

I learned vastly more from the player who ganked me, and all those who that experience lead me to meeting, than I ever would have on my own. It opened up the world of Elite to me in a way that muddling along alone simply was never going to do.

I'm not saying anyone should be happy about getting ganked. I'm just saying that how each player chooses to respond to it can have a dramatic influence on their game experience afterwards. As my OP in this thread stated, my decision to accept that friend request transformed the game. Far from driving me out of Elite, getting ganked by Cow was probably the thing that has kept me in the game.
