Perhaps but a war of attrition will likely chip away at their morale and affirms that their (or their leaderships) goals are strictly personal.
That is the impression I, an up until recently generally what you'd classify as a "disinterested observer", am getting more and more. I did hear the claims initially, and I also heard the vehement denials from SPEAR but, as far as I was concerned, I couldn't prove it either way so those were just opposing claims. They still are, from a purely factual point of view, but I cannot deny that the recent demand that certain individuals have to leave the nebula/the Reapers/what have you in order for negotiations to even take place has further strengthened my
opinion that this is nothing if not personal.
So the question, to me at least, remains: What might an even-keeled, level-headed starship driver think about an organization that will happily travel 22,000 light years and start a war in a region of the galaxy that, to the best of my knowledge, was functioning quite well, getting along peacefully, prior to their arrival? The first and only reports I ever heard/read of alleged widespread criminality/griefing/harassment in Colonia came from the group who decided to travel that far, and I'm almost certain, in my heart of hearts, that at least
some reports of such activities would have spread across the galaxy, even as far as to the Bubble, prior to that. At least to justify such a massive intervention and upheaval which, to my mind, doesn't seem to have brought anything positive at all to the colony.
And for what?
To expel a couple of individuals from a group of people or else?
I do not know the backstory of all of this, and I shall endeavor to avoid speculating, but whatever it is that those largely unspecified individuals allegedly have done in the past, it must have been on a truly epic scale that ought to have brought about a chapter or two in the history books if it is to justify, in any
reasonable fashion, all of this. I would have have to imagine, for example, that Phisto single-handedly invaded Poland and conquered it just because he was bored one morning, then proceeded to burn it all down in the afternoon.
If that is true, then remind me to never get on your bad side, Phisto, and may I add that history has cruelly underestimated you considering that you're not the stuff that parents use to frighten their children into eating their veggies already.
It's ridiculous, really. All of this turmoil and potential loss of ship types otherwise unavailable without access to a fleet carrier or an extremely long trek for personal reasons? It is, in matter of fact, so ridiculous that the sheer absurdity of it all is visible all the way in here, from 22,000 light years away. So incandescently insane that not only the good citizens of Colonia, but a rag tag band of volunteers from the Bubble and elsewhere have spoken as one and demonstrated it by delivering a stinging defeat to the invaders in a matter of a few weeks.
How much clearer can it get? When was the last time that people who, until recently, traveled halfway across known space to fight for a faction that I'm sure a lot of them barely knew about up until then?
If
this is not the time to negotiate an end to the madness, truly for the good of all, then exactly
when is that time?
Because I doubt that people who dropped what they were doing and voluntarily donated their time and efforts to this cause are about to pull up their tent poles and leave anytime soon. And those who do are likely to be quickly replaced by others.
