Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Looks to me that there are more ships in Star Citizen than there are en eElite dangerous and you get to walk around and
…that was never the question so what are you even on about? Are you at all capable of actually staying on topic and responding to the facts and arguments other people post?

if you can't get your head around it... not my fault.
Get your head around what? What's not your fault?

who do I believe?...
Not someone who needs to answer “with conviction” about a video game. That's not a good sign.

Hey, if that was twice as funny you'd be a wit
And if that were infinitely more about what people actually said rather than what you imagined, you'd be on topic.

Anyway, I'll leave you all to your
Star Citizen is DOOOOOMED therapy thread.
So using failure to read as your main strategy didn't work out for you, huh? Oh well…

innocent until proved
Good thing it has been so thoroughly proven, then.
Maybe you failed to read the posts you were responding to and didn't notice?

I hope "your friend" has fun with your their jpeg fleet :)

You're right, I don't know a great deal about Star Citizen, but for one reason only, no solo, but my mate has it and raves over it, calls Elite 'boring' and answers questions I ask with conviction, he's enjoying it, I don't know you or any of the 'haters' here at all, so, who do I believe?...

Do your own research. Someone who enjoys the game might overlook some of the flaws. People who are skeptical might overlook some of the positive things.

So, if you have any real interest, instead of just coming in here and making accusations about the personalities and personal lives of the posters in this thread, i urge you to do a dive into the history of the development of the game, and make your own judgement. Furthermore, you can see for yourself how "enjoyable" the game is by giving it a try the next free fly event that comes round. Even if you don't care for it because of the lack of a solo mode, trying out a free fly i think isn't really onerous if you want to see for yourself what all the fuss is about.

I am curious how your friend can call ED boring when SC doesn't even have a tenth of the game loops that ED does and has even longer travel times (within a single system, not even talking about travel between systems, because there is only 1 system).... but, to each their own. I most certainly won't say he is wrong for enjoying SC. Maybe he just enjoys constant bugs and crashes! :D

Does this mean he has broken the law at all?

Doubtful anything will ever come to court over this. As mentioned, these kind of business practices are not unusual in the least - companies often talk a lot of manure and choose to withhold all the things wrong with their product and platform from investors so they can get more money. Have, sadly, worked for a couple of them. None of these companies has ever been taken to court by their investors. And it takes a case as big as Theranos for law enforcement to get involved, ie criminal negligence, hard facts, etc.

Since ship sales are considered in-game sales, incur VAT, are subject to 14-day return policy etc, there's not much buyers can cry about. The original kickstarter even less so - a product was seemingly attempted to be developed with those funds after all. Whether or not it was as advertised is of no consequence, legally speaking per kickstarter rules.

The only reason CIG is even talked about is because of the method they have used to gather funds. That is the only unique thing about CIG. That, and the rabid fan base bordering on delusional religious belief.

It's amazing really how quickly heavily-invested fanatics disappear when QuaversAndWotsits CIG quotes album gets posted. Is it like their cryptonite? Haha

But its all taken out of context and anyway we voted for CIG to take as long as they want and we told them it was fine to totally rework SQ42 and Chris is a genius and hard at work refactoring the physics engine and that is why we haven't seen him, he's far too busy, (love you Chris!) and anyway, we all know a rushed game is forever bad but a delayed game is eventually good.

Checkmate FUDster!

So, your source is biased.

Remember, this particular thread (again, on its twelfth incarnation, because the people here follow the project closely) is full of both backers (enthusiastic and skeptical), as well as those who prefer to watch from the outside without being invested (monetarily, emotionally, or otherwise).

Edit: What I'm saying is, before you go on the defensive, or bring your mate's talking points, look around this thread and observe the full range of opinions (and the reasoning behind them).

Seriously though, I doubt Chris and co will end up in serious court risk over the Star Citizen project irrespective of its outcome. They created ~20 shell companies for that very reason, and who knows how many offshore trust funds (owning $4.3m mansions) are involved too. Meanwhile, cash was extracted legally via salaries and share-sales:

Whatever happens, Chris, Erin, Sandi, and Ortwin, plus no doubt many others, got very rich - congrats to them on finding such a willing and obedient bunch of finsubs 😂

I thought it was worth posting the original saying.

"None so deaf as those that will not hear. None so blind as those that will not see."

--Matthew Henry

Youd think in the age of the internet, when someone is literally already on Internet Explorer with a page open....that someone could never be so lazy as not to bother looking to see if there is a source for that quote. Hello :) Glad it got its proper attribution.

prefer the ED way over the SC way of conducting business, but $300m says they're not wrong,

Depends what your 'business' is I suppose, If its developing and publishing games....or if its collecting money.

BTW Frontier stand to make approx £90m profit this year, maybe more if the 3rd party games do bettr than expected. (Frontier have set up a separate part of the businessas a publisher to take on 3rd party games and bring them to market. They've done 1 already with a 2nd on the way.

They also self published Planet Coaster as a test early on to see if they could develop and bring a game to market and see what the problems might be, all using internal funds BEFORE they went on KS to ask for public funds for their next game Elite Dangerous which they then duly released. It is a game, it is on the market, it has had updates and DLCs since release and has more planned. As have other titles in the Frontier range.

Well posted duder :)

See @Skip Rockbounder, unlike yourself some of us here do follow the project and actually know what's going on. You clearly don't understand crowdfunded-game development. Luckily for you, one of the FUDsters has collated a lot of useful information in an easily readable format for you:

All ships that are playable in game with the exception of special ships and the new ROC buggy are buyable in game with in game credits.

Special ships being things like the Sabre Raven, the AMD Mustang, and then the different color special variants like the Sabre Comet, Dragonfly Yellow Jacket. The color variants and the same as the regular ships, just a different skin.

With 3.10.2 CIG went through and put back any in game ships that had disappeared. Havent really heard of ships still disappearing in 3.10.2 like they were before. Could still be happening, but sure is the noise about it like there was before.

EDIT: And alien ships, cant buy those in game either.....

Just for accuracy: Planet Coaster came out later (2016) - ED was the self-publishing guinea pig, and there were inevitably some teething pains with that early on.
Entirely agree with the overall point though, that Frontier have made a great success of their business model, both in self-publishing and now in publishing third-party games. I feel like we have very little idea as to what CIG's post-launch business model would look like...

this is incredible. I go out for an hour or two and in the meantime the thread jumps 5 pages and predictibly...its because of a new defender going through his lines 🍿 🍿 🍿

making excessive noise and running multiple sock puppet accounts

By now I doubt its the critics doing that. Especially as in this place one voice goes silent and another pops up hehehe. (munching popcorn intensifies)

Edit: Why do you arrogantly assume that those posting in this section of the forum are Star Citizen haters? Quite a few of us in here are long term backers of the project :)

FINALLY the transition is complete. Welcome to the "dark side" Mole 😂 (y)

Imagine feeling this defensive over a game you admit don't follow and have poor knowledge about other than unsourced "friend" (we know it's you really) anecdotes 😂

Anyway, I'll leave you all to your
Star Citizen is DOOOOOMED therapy thread.

Talk to you later, always nice to meet new people with a fresh perspective on all this. The truth and facts can get a tad stale and boring without shaking up. Thank you for providing the laughs ^^

If anything this is a perfect example of all the haters and fudsters in this thread ganging up on a new face making innocent and harmless statements, shame on all you guys ;)
