Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

You can actually save money thanks to SC!

Someone on SA has run the numbers and if they are correct, apparently you have to spend 400 dollars in subscriptions to save 100 dollars. So he would be 400 dollars down, with 100 dollars in store credit. Its not like he can take that 100 dollars somewhere else and spend it, and he's still out of pocket.

I don't know how you mess up math this simple.

You get a coupon after being subbed for 12 months. To get a 20% coupon you have to sub at the $20 level.

So 12 * 20 = $240

$240 in sub costs.

and you get 20% off, up to a max of $100. if you buy that $35,000 pack, you only save $100, not $7,000.

Well, Relic is actually an imperiator sub, so he actually saves $20 a year on the sub, so for him its 220 in sub costs.

But yeah, looks like the person on SA has their maths wrong.

Still, its not exactly any sort of bargain or saving.

The numbers are meaningless anyway. 5 years ago , you could still sell your LTI ships in the grey market for a substantial markup. Nowadays, if you buy an SC ship for cash then your either stuck with it or have to sell it at a loss.

It's a fool's game, you're much better off buying a lottery ticket. The odds of getting something back are much higher 🎲

Wait, I think I know what the person might have been getting at. It is a 20% coupon with a max of $100.

So the "best" amount to spend would be $500. In that case you get the $100 off without having spent more that wasnt getting a discount.

You would be spending $400 when you use the coupon.

You would spend $640 ($400 + $240 sub cost) to get a $500 ship.

What a deal!

I was kinda joking before about the FDev dig having nettled him. But he's really doubling down 😄

I don't know how anyone can doubt this is Chris. It's an Escapist-tier screed. Typed feverishly at an odd hour, seemingly. (Assuming he's in LA, not the Seychelles or something).

What was the FDev dig?

Ah, maybe that's it.

In other news, CTT has accused me of letting others use my account. Apparently I have some sort of troll army using my account to make posts around the internet.

I'd just like to take this moment to tell everyone that i'm changing my password from 1234 to 4321. Please stop using my account to troll you trolling trollsters!
Oh, that explains that login error I received this morning.
