Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

That reminds me I wont be able to take the Tuesday shift as I'll be having a takeaway Monday night and will be on the toilet for most of the next day.

Got it. I'll put you down for the weekend shift then, but sorry, can't pay you overtime rates. FD just aren't paying* me enough to troll CIG. :D

*(somewhere, on the interwebs, someone with no brains at all, is taking a screenshot of this post as "proof" that FD are paying people to troll CIG)

If we report this post and get it deleted, we will have the only screenshots, and we all know how valuable pictures are to the SC community, we'll be quids in. :)

Ask the Chairman

LOL, brilliant.

No asking about timelines.

So, he's not even willing to give some sort of ballpark for SQ42 or SC? No ballpark on server meshing? No ballpark on anything. No asking full stop.

This game is never going to see the light of day.

I bet Nightrider is going to be busy today. - lol deleted posts everywhere already.

Discussion

Hi everyone.

I spend a fair amount of time reading community discussions and feedback (feel sorry for me, Im a victim in all this = emotional blackmail) but I shy away from engaging as it can become a full time job (emotional blackmail), one that I don't have available time for as running a company of 630 people spread around the globe (emotional blackmail), while directing two projects already takes way more than 40 hours a week (sub-text, Im working sooo hard for you you shouldnt criticise you should worship or feel sorry for me = emotional blackmail), especially as we now have to "over" communicate internally as almost everyone is working from home. (Its so hard doing what everyone else is doing, we are a special case = emotional blackmail)

But once in a while, while reading something on Spectrum I get the itch to share some context and information. (Hype up and distract from the subject, everyone is at this point waiting to see what he says about Roadmap etc) I do recognize that the question I answered last week was somewhat arbitrary as I like talking about Star Citizen (it is my dream game after all!) (Hype - we're all in this together, yay us!) and I am in a unique position to know both the big picture and the technical issues (narcissistic and worhsip me, I am uniques PLUS I have no skills as a manager or CEO and 8 years in I am still the the only one who knows what the finished product is or when I will say it is 'ready for release') I thought it may be fun to answer another question from you guys, but this time you can have a hand in determining what question I answer! (Hype & Distraction, arent we having fun, this is fine)

A few rules;
  • No questions on timelines or schedules. When the revised Road Map is ready that will be the best place to see what we currently "estimate" (estimate != promise) as our task durations (What does 'estimate' (estimate ! = promise) actually mean coz it aint English and I dont think its Maths? NO questions on the important issues, we will not give you timelines about timelines about roadmaps, no detail at all whatsoever you can hold us accountable for.
  • Add as much detail to the question but do not make it multiple questions about different topics (Attempt to steer peoples thinking onto specific questions about the game therefore stopping the brain from thinking about whats missing in this statement. Misdirection is the magical term, look over here not over there)
  • Focus on systems that exist or we have said we plan to build. Bluesky theorycrafting isn't going to be that useful as we already have a huge backlog of stuff to achieve before we start wondering about "new" features. (Setting the scene for delayed release due to backlog of features, wasnt SQ42 due next month?)
  • Be respectful

Question with highest number of up-votes that adheres to these rules I'll answer to the best of my ability this weekend."

1st Question:

How is the Dynamic Economy shaping up? and is server meshing an essential requirement before Quantas show up?

Nice to see some Freedom of Speech still exists in whatever year SC is in.

Edited for names

That Spectrum thread might as well be titled "Chris reads you a bedtime story"

Chris "I'm managing 630 people all over the globe, making 2 video games at the same time and working a massive 40 hours a week" Roberts says "NO DATES!!! That is an unfair question after 8 years! Don't hold me accountable for anything!!".

So, what did we learn today... They're now 630, what is timelines anyway?, given He answered yes to everything so actually we can ask about anything as they 'have said we plan to build' everything, though only Chris Almighty shall theorycraft, He acknowledges He's made His Dream a chore backlog, Ben Parry is mentionned though he's allegedly not working for CIG anymore

its 630 people, do you really expect this man to know about the where abouts of every single one and if hes actually working there?

This has to be one of my favourite parts:

Bluesky theorycrafting isn't going to be that useful

Erm... perhaps CR should have thought about that himself when he started saying yes to every idea that backers dreamt up?

Perhaps he should have clamped down on such theorycrafting early on, because right now, every hardcore backer seems to think they are getting everything they could imagine, even if what they think they are getting contrdicts what someone else thinks he is getting. Case in point: Those who think PvP is going to be an active part of the game vs those who think PvP will be rare due to security measures and the 100 to 1 NPC ratio where NPCs are not distinguishable from players, so PvPers will go chasing after NPCs instead.

Kinda funny that Ben was tagged by Chris 😀
To be fair Ben's moving on doesn't discredit his previous heroic education efforts! ;)

I'm definitely getting my popcorn ready for this AMA though - I've got my question in! Don't have much hope of it being answered, though...

Edit: Wow, this was dark from another backer...
I understand this may be a tad personal so please forgive me in advance if it is.

Given the size and scope of the vision you have for Star Citizen and Squadron 42, is there some sort of scope or document in place if something was to happen to you that would allow the team to continue their work in bringing your dream to life?
I mean... a) the answer is clearly yes, and b) it's a desk fan with a pair of paper hands attached to it.
