Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Take it easy on them my dear Mole. Learning how to read postit notes translated from <waves hands> and import it in to Jira for the barista to announce takes time.
It seems strangely similar to when I took over this farm owned by my mothers family for nearly 150 years from the local bog-trotters at the Crofters Commission that had been running it since WW2...I say 'running it' in the loosest sense of the phrase. The accounts had mostly been done on the back of a cigarette packet for 70 of those years. It was almost a complete derelict with 2 inbred cows and 20 feral chickens crapping all over the place

Well that does of course introduce problems - but they are not intrinsically unsolvable. Business running on back-of-a-word-we-can't-say-due-to-imagined-semi-modern-sensibilities-packet that's been running for 30 years could very well run for another 30 years - and profit from it too!

Now, we have CI-G - who have profited immensely from running this last, shall we say, 10 years - with absolutely no product delivered whatsoever. None. The only deliverable they can come up with is Genuine Roberts "Vision" - and that is so nebulous and unartificed it may as well be the imaginings of a Niddrie buckie tramp dreaming of one day achieving the great heights of managing a wet bum trumpet into an actual paper bag.

The longer this goes on the worse it gets.

But it will never fail to deliver lulz.

The hardest bit of taking the farm over from the Crofting Commission was that my mum wanted some photos...I didn't have the heart, it would have killed her. The last time she saw it was when she left it as a young teenager in 1946.

  1. it has been a "rough transition" and still in process
  2. starting this quarter, expect "a more detailed, polished and presentable roadmap" from Turbulent
  3. unknown if this transition will be announced
  4. "We don't know how are fans are going to react, but Chris is still heavily involved in the project."
  5. Turbulent "only adding help" not "taking away development" from CI
  6. "We are the same company, the same people, the same ones that have been working [on SC] this whole time."
Point 1 means that points 5 and 6 are a lie.
Point 2 means that there should be positions of Junior Roadmap Polisher, Senior Roadmap Polisher and Chief Roadmap Officer.
Point 4 means they aren't sure that Christopher is any good for the project, themselves.

  • as more and more new hires are brought in to replace devs, the code base gets more and more unstable.
Maybe they should hire @LittleAnt, he will explain to them that they aren't late, but overdue, and bringing in new hires makes the code base more agile, not unstable :D

  • SQ42 "proper" is at least another 24 to 36 months out
Years, not months.

The only deliverable they can come up with is Genuine Roberts "Vision" - and that is so nebulous and unartificed it may as well be the imaginings of a Niddrie buckie tramp dreaming of one day achieving the great heights of managing a wet bum trumpet into an actual paper bag.
Given the amount of handwavium involved each time, Genuine Roberts "Vision" is undeliverable.

Never been done before Turbulent gets in charge.

Though with the only things working as intended being those from Turbulent, someone must have taken the decision to give them more and more lead. Fortunately, else maybe the janitor would be in charge of the project now.

Change in the min requirement of the alpha. AVX becomes mandatory.

We wanted to give you a heads up that we'll be updating our minimum system requirements with the update coming to the RSI Launcher tomorrow. Specifically, AVX (Advanced Vector Extensions) CPU technology will be a requirement going forward. It's important to note that only older CPUs don't utilize this technology, and we expect very few of you to be impacted by this change.

AVX technology was introduced with Intel's Sandy Bridge processor and AMD's Bulldozer processor (both released in 2011). This means that processors that pre-date this will no longer be able to effectively launch Star Citizen from the updated launcher.

I agree with you on all you say.
The main difference between us is that you see CIG as a completely incompetent company which is unable to learn from its mistakes. I do not.
Another difference is I suspect CIG of making a game engine instead of a making a game. But I have no proof of that too.

I meant to reply to this a few days ago, aka 13 sheets ago...and this isn't directed at you, but just in general.

I, like others, probably have had the same idea...they're not only attemtping to make the bdsse, but also the bdmpsgue...(best damn machinima production software/game universe ever). I can see that as a thing, but that means people are supporting them making software that other companies may buy or use to make their own games, etc. There are companies that make game engines. Why are people giving them thousands of dollars to make a product that some other company is going to buy? If they are making a production software, they're not going to hand it out. If this is what they're doing, they're going to charge for it. So why the cheerleading, unless you're an investor or developer?

Also, lets say that this side project is part of why they're doing things the way they're doing them. Isn't it in their interest to just state that? They state they're being the most open producers...so do that. Be open, I want to see it. I think others do too.

Also...as time goes by, as they seem to not be able to deliver anything close to the BDSSE, they're infinitely far from delivering the BDMPSGUE. Why fail at one thing when you can fail at many. Maybe it's not a bad idea to try and do this...but seeing how things are going, maybe someone else could/should give it a shot? As far as Im concerned, the only decent entertainment CI-G has provided me, is this line of threads :) I dont have to read books anymore, just this.

But to be fair, they do make great pics. Imagine farming simulator 2025, but it being built in Cryeng...I mean StarCitEngine instead. Nice. (seriously though, whatever engine they use to make those farming simulators in now is pretty sweet and they generate amazing imagery too)

Seriously, (I'll allow myself one serious post in ten - it's all SC deserves IMO), giving Turbulent the lead would be a smart decision, and perhaps it is being brought on by the Calders. I hope they are also pushing for CR to be less hands on w.r.t. project management and coding. It might be the only hope they have. This whole project is strewn with moronic design decisions. I don't normally comment on these, as they're so obvious and SC is just a comedy to me anyway - something to watch and chuckle at - but for this one serious post I'll use the recent example of SC elevators, where, bewilderingly, CR went on public record expounding the virtues of "physicalising" the elevator dynamics, as if that's a good thing for the game. Yet another facepalm moment. The whole point of game development is to write efficient robust code to give players the illusion of a completely seamless and immersive gameplay experience. It's always a trade-off. You never needlessly simulate physical processes inconsequential to the player experience. That's just bloatware driven by ego.

Finally it dawned on someone that perhaps players don't actually experience the physicalised elevator process, so perhaps they should do elevators like every other game - teleporters. So common sense prevailed at last? Well perhaps not, since apparently CR made the decision to allow devs to use either physicalised elevators or teleporting elevators. So they keep the completely unnecessary nonsense buggy bloatware and add a v2 elevator option as well... you just can't make this stuff up. But what do I know. They're obviously the experts.

If this were the only example of bad game design / decision making, it wouldn't be an issue, but I'm sure collectively we could list hundreds of similar examples. Time for me to go back to watching and chuckling. :)

And there you have it: ClubRobbers can't even do roadmaps and have to source it out. That's why we're waiting so long. CI isn't capable of even predicting what they are working on and what they plan to deliver themselves. Top management. 5 star business control. Your moneys are in good hands. (sarcasm)
I have a feeling the workforce is in shatters and not able to handle the mess of a decade anymore. So they have 3rd parties have a go. Again. We were there already years ago. SQ42 announced and nothing to show for. The only consistent thing that CI manages to reliably put out is missing deadlines and not delivering what they bragged to deliver. They are solid underperformers. If you give them money you can be sure they'll burn it and put the rest into Robbers coffers.

Point 1 means that points 5 and 6 are a lie.
Above all, posting rumors that contradict each other makes it possible to have at least some of them true regardless of the real situation.🙄
I think TheAgent has previously said that the rumours he gets come from a lot of different people, so there are often contradictions in what he hears. He just posts whatever gets said by multiple sources. Different departments/studios with different visibility i would guess.
