The Imperial Clipper

It kinda just sits in the hangar for now.

Might use it for goids. It can hull tank well, and it's fast enough to get distance. The hardpoint convergence is awful, but I bet I can make it work.

I bought one for some reason just before leaving on DW2. A couple of months ago I remembered I owned it, though not why I bought it. I did the usual "sell off the E rated modules" and did some basic engineering, then flew it for the first time.

My impression was that it's not a bad ship.

The problem is it's not an especially good ship either.

It'd be a nice 'bubbleship' if it weren't restricted to large pads, but as it is, it just doesn't offer enough elsewhere to offset that limitation. I'll fly it occasionally just for a change of pace, but I don't see myself ever seriously using it. There are better choices from a utility perspective, and I'm not personally enamored enough with its looks or flight characteristics to choose it over a Python or Krait.

Again, it's not a bad ship, but it is oddly placed as a "large medium", and in comparison to more readily available ships it just doesn't quite measure up.

Meh. Cockpit view is paramount for me when it comes to Exploration. I personally wouldn't use a ship that doesn't let you see the ground below as you fly planetside ala AspX/T6/Phantom/etc.
+1 plus I wish you could move the Conda bridge to the chin. 1st time I looked at a picture of an anaconda I thought that was the bridge.

It's a beautiful ship

The iClipper is a good combat ship, but it's supposed to be a multi-purpose. It's the red-headed stepchild of the large ship stable and really belongs on a medium pad. Let's get some utility up in here.

What? You must be doing something wrong. Shield is low but recharge very quick, not only Clipper has insane agulity for its size, but also boosts slightly over 600 m/s! And this means you you can disengage at any time - at your own terms. You don't need phat 5000 MJ shield to surivive in a Clipper. Reactive hull + HRP's all heavy duty with deep plating can give ~ 5000 pts of integrity. Is that low? Cmon. Also have you noticed how powerful headbutts Clipper can deal? It's is the best ship for ramming. Period.
Speaking of weapons. No pew, pew turrets. Just no. You want a set of four gimballed frags, they kill in no time. Speaking of flying in Clipper in solo. There is no need to do that anymore. While flying in your flying Clipper you're pretty much gank proof, not as much as you would fly in a Courier but survival is still pretty high. For me it was first ship to do trade and survive CG's in open and after a some advices and little schooling - also the first ship for pvp fights, in 95% of cases I was disengaging at my terms when the fight was getting hairy. The taste of first pvp victory over prismatic Conda that interdicted me in Wyrd will stay with me forever, I was so excited, 50% of hull but I was victorious. And just like my sensei showed me - I did this guy in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu style, glued to him and pounding with frags, finished of with a headbutt and that was most awesome part of this fight. That is the way to fight in this ship, melee in close distance.

Here is the build, even if you are not into pvping, then this might be your ship for spreading havoc and forcing factions to retreat. Any other cool and effective uses? Piracy. Actually Clipper is the king of piracy. Just take a c6 cargo rack, hatch breaker and collectors.
I must admit you make a good case. I've never tried the Clipper but just might use that build and give 'er a go. :)

Greetings,

It is an awesome large pad landing ship. Probably the fastest and the most maneuverable large ship in the game. It's weakness are low shields and hull no matter how many boosters or hull reinforcements makes a difference. Add in the awful targeting reticle on the pylons and class 3 long range beams with thermal vent is the logical choice. Then add your favorite weapons on the class 2 hard points.

I used it for years as an asteroid miner. Then with all the new mining toys a Python works better.

Perfect in a wing they love the Clipper as a support ship with weapons taking out a FSD and immediately dropping shields. A fast maneuverable ship with engineered torpedoes is difficult to defeat.

Still in Solo mode it is fun to fly. I use long range beams and shock cannons close up. How do you fly your Clipper?

Regards

Design against practicality the clipper is using handwavium aplenty! No way considering internals, that it has the cargo space that it has. On top of weapon systems layered in as well. Anyone have the blueprints for this thing. I smell a lawsuit coming, I did not pick handwavium in my package.

OK, now do the math on Sidewinders and SRV bays.

It’s weakness is it’s a medium ship in a large chassis. And the lack of central hard points. Decrease the model size to python range, class as medium. That will go a long way....

or make it a real large class with a central class 4 hard point. Or over under class 3 & class 2 central hardpoints.

pretty much the only consistent thing it has going for it is “it’s pretty”.

all the weaknesses of both, none of the strengths, yes!

I use mine as a fast runnder of cargo delivery/go fetch missions. Can haul a decent amount. Good SC manouverability for when interdicted. And almost as fast as my Cobra.

I have bought the entire Empire line when I won the discount in the CG. I haven't used one of them yet. World of warships taught me, quickly, it's not a good idea to rush the tiers. But I couldn't pass the discount (it was only a week: fair enough). At first I went to a Li Young-Rui yard but the discounts didn't stack. At the last moment I found out the discounts did stack in Jameson so that made it interesting enough to purchase them all in 1 go. ATM I'm familiarizing with the Corvette. But very curious to give the white planes a go after that. I'll be painting them black first of course.

I used mine as a long range explorer, took me to Colonia and it was very enjoyable experience. Right now she sits in the hangar but I'm planning on turning her into business jet. Usually I avoid passenger missions but I start to think about bulk business grade runs and Clipper fits perfectly. Especially with iridescent paint.
