"The Stones"

Aight, so, a summary of things so far.

  • Ghost Ship arrives at Chukchan, alludes to three systems it actively rendevoused at
  • Oct 29: K-Class star was SYNUEFE XE-Y C17-7 3 , where a (bugged) listening post is
  • Oct 30: M-Class star was Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1 3, where the Surface site & barnies are.
  • Oct 31: A-Class star was HIP 69200, crashed Sidewinder with the professor's final log.
  • Local Galnet article in Chukchan suggests the ship was originally plotting to Barnard's Loop (?)
  • "The Stones" refer to barnacles/barnacle spires.

While I put a bit of a bigger thing together, here's a few bits to feed in for the folks in the thread in advance.

All the newly discovered stuff dates from 3111.

That puts it before the first game and well before the actions (and I think the formation of) INRA. It also puts it firmly in the era of Galcop.

Two things; firstly the current 'First Thargoid Contact' Tourist Beacon, puts it (the first properly public contact) at 3125:

First Thargoid contact - retcon version.jpg

However, the original version puts it much earlier:

0e0OnsH.jpg

Secondly, a map of locations showing the location of Chukchan and the Coalsack versus the major power centres at the time:

  • Sol (Federation)
  • Achenar (Empire)
  • Lave (Galcop)
(Slight assumption here that Lave was indeed the powercentre, but it serves to indicate which powers where roughly in which areas of space.)

Chukchan and other locations.jpg

Like I say, I've not a proper post together yet - this is just some prep work that I'm putting here so others can see it and use it.

actually I'd say (from the megaships log: "Arrived at listenting post. Updating to rendevouz with planetray survey team."):
- the ship was plotting for the listening post from Chukchan, where it got its orders.

I'm not sure the ship was originally plotting to BL. It just seems to have gone in that direction, but specifically to Synuefe XE-Y C17-7, at which point it's then changed course to it's proper destination.

Personally, it seems to me like that was probably just part of steps taken to obscure the destination and maintain maximum secrecy.

Yeah... I'm yet to verify that bit.

Oh btw @goemon , I agree. I'm just trying to cover off all the points that are things to look at, rather than establish a chronology, sorry!

Complete local galnet of Chukchan:

SECRETS OF THE ADAMASTOR
29 OCT 3306
A private investigator has uncovered some
background to the derelict megaship that recently
arrived in this system.
Little is known about the Adamastor, which returned
on autopilot after two hundred years with no sign ot
its crew. But an experienced detective has come out
ot retirement to tackle this mystery.
Local resident Benjamin Chester, who was a founding
member ot the renowned Wallglass Investigations
Agency, told journalists:
"l convinced the Alliance Salvage Guild to pass on
some serial numbers that they discovered inside the
Adamastor. Then I started scouring databases,
interviewing sources and, well, doing my old job."
"The megaship was owned by a corporation called
Azimuth Biochemicals, This was taken over by a
similar company called Pharmasapien, but both were
liquidated long ago. No mission records exist, but
service crew reports mention that the Adamastor's
passengers included scientists, engineers and some
kind of military."
"Eventually I unearthed a flight plan, logged in
October 3111. It plotted a course toward Barnard's
Loop with fuel tor approximately 370 light years, and
was scheduled to pass by the HIP 39748 and HIP
33386 systems."
"I'm way too old to head out there myself, but I hope
someone can use this into, and help satisfy my
curiosity about what happened all those years ago."

Interesting - I checked local news when I went to visit the m/s, but didn't see that ...

Right, I'm not reading the spoilers, however, these systems mentioned in Galnet are just breadcrumbs to tie in with the ship log, yes? Just pointers/hints?
Bit 'off colour', brain not at full capacity.

Ah. Do I need that too? Was avoiding that and just trying 'in game'.
You don't need it. It's just a rather obvious hint.

Basically that combined with a deductive stab in the dark and some luck meant i was already landed on the correct planet after downtime.

I'll do a "review" post about this event later, but i think this would've drawn out longer and been a bigger huntv if FD hadn't included that binary

So, sans the binary hint, which kinda breaks the puzzle... sequence to solve would be
Initial facts.
0. Galnet article tells us about the ghost ship in Chukchan, and three systems which the ship transited (HIP 61595, HIP 64011 and HIP 65201) after leaving an unknown origin (Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1 3)
1. Go to ghost ship, scan ship logs, get clues about three unnamed systems which the ship was present in.

2. Go to local Galnet in Chukchan, learn about two other systems (HIP 39748 and HIP 33386) the ghost ship transited after commencing its journey from Chukchan.

3. From here, you'd be able to determine from the local Galnet that the ship embarked towards direction of Barnard's loop, and returned from direction of coalsack.

4. Using system descriptions, you either:
  • locate the system noted in ship logs on the 31st, where carvers sidewinder is, or
  • locate the system with the listening post, towards Barnard's loop.

5. There isn't enough to backtrack to Musca Dark Region PJ-P B6-1 3 from the sidewinder wreck, so you'd be out of luck at that point and need to head towards Barnard's Loop

6. You'd find the listening post, but it'd be broken. Presumably it contains a clue directing you to the coalsack though. I'd imagine just coalsack broadly, giving activity to search the nebulae, discovering barnies and eventually the surface site.

7. If you hadn't found the sidey, you could presume the last system in the ghost ship id between the closest system in the Galnet article, and your current location. Find the relevant system and job done.

I think that's it, though once I'm back home, i want to go on my regular visit to Barnard's loop and see if all is well still.

Hmm ..in codex record from Chukchan dated today says about some asteroids and pirates. Nothing about this ship >:
I don't recall I read this entry anywhere.

Thanks for the summary Jmanis, Yesterday was my Birthday and I was a little tipsy.
Having your thread to follow helped me a lot, though it did confuse me as we where doing things backwards.
The summary of how it was supposed to unfold, helps my poor hungover head sort this all out.

Thanks.

Edit, yes yes I know... my sig was supposed to blinking ! now he just looks like hes got sand in his eyes.
